View Full Version : What of Matty Primus?

Nothing was said on the news today to mention that the umpires may have had the same warped brain as Robert Walls and cite Lade. Of course, all bets aren't off yet and the AFL may still want to stick their nose in. But assuming Lade is not cited, and that Matt Primus may be fit for the Collingwood match, what do we do? Lade may be the 3rd ruckman but he rucked most of the game against Essendon and he hasn't set a foot wrong in either game. Brogan I'd still call our premier ruckman and I'd use him most in the ruck against Collingwood, with Lade doing the job he did against Sydney.
Really, I can't see anyway Matty Primus could return this year unless there is an injury. The two playing are doing too well to fool around with at this time and bringing in a player solely as a third marking option isn't something I'd reccommend.

Yeah I think it would take Matty a few weeks to get back to his normal impact, we started seeing that against Hawthorn in the 3rd quarter until his unfortunate injury. I'd opt for Lade and Brogan, Lade's form over the last few weeks has been better than Brogans. If It came down to Ackland and Primus Id take Primus. If Primus was an automayic selection, Id play Lade either as a marking forward or play him floating in defence cutting off the leads to Tarrant.

Maybe Brogan is carrying a niggling injury, but he's been down both last week and this by a large margin on his form during the year. Lade has stepped up both games to be our best player against the Swans and in the top 5 against the Bombers. If Primus is fit enough to play a half or more against the Pies I'd play him even if Lade isn't suspended. The inspiration effect for one (we need every mental edge still) and with Chad Cornes doing **** all in the forward lines the last two matches he can play forward. With Warren over the flu the forward line can look more like Primus in the goal square as the immovable object. Shaun to stand next to him then provide fast leads out (Matty can help shephard SB's opponent out of it). Tredrea back at CHF with Chad, Dew at CHF and Byron and Che free to the Centre/HF line (leaving an open forward line of just Matty and Shaun).

I'd say Brogan is just running on empty. Its his first season of AFL, and he's been gunning it all year - don't expect him to put in a star performance.

Depending on the forecast, I like this idea. If Matty could develop into a Lynch-like target it would make our forward line all the more powerful.

Rumour has it that he did a bit of ruck work at training today and Ladey just lazed around...
