Well done to the mighty Eagles on a terrific victory over the reigning premier Sturt today. Very proud of my boys today.

Bring on the Prelim!

Yes, an amazing win by the Eagles. I thought they had a lot of very good players, including Hayden Skipworth.

We never play well in the wet. Haven't all year, so the loss came as no real surprise when the rain came down.

Look out!! I am so pumped, again, after todays win. A four quarter effort for perhaps the only time this year?

Got to the game checking out thornton sportsbet - sturt $1.25 - eags were $3.50 - thought gee not good for our chances.

The way we started the game was great - albeit without much scoreboard pressure, sturt wasted a couple of shots into the breeze.

At half time I was thinking (hoping) that we had learnt from the game against centrals 2 weeks ago when we were in an identical position.

Solid contributions from all 21, well coached by Ron. It seems we learnt from the centrals game. The players pressure on the ball carrier created many turnovers, sturt knew they were under pressure.

In particular when we needed to take the ball and take the tackles we were able to and not let the ball loose for sturts runners. Esp in the second half.

Our young side has made us proud with their efforts - I think around 9 players are under 21 so the future looks good.

Sicka - great game today - did not try to overcook the ball as against centrals, good passing inside 50 and can just belt the ball along when needed.

Powell - some great marks esp first half

Loved Williams game - Ron has had huge wraps on this player 3 years ago but now has overcome his injuries. Not huge stats but couple of body crunching tackles and stopped the ball when confronted three sturt players running through the centre square in the last quarter.

Passador good attacks on the footy setting up one goal.

Inkster - bobbed up again with 5 goals -Had a lot of faith shown in him by the coach starting the match one out in the goalsquare, had whiteman moved off him to be replaced by mattner. I loved his play on goal

Floreani - good game.

Lindsay & O'hara good games in ruck - lindsays bump then tackle on feast to win a holding the ball was inspiring stuff.

Defence stood tall - superbly led by hally.

Stokes good first quarter goal.

Skipworth worked his way into the game

For the most accurate team in the league to kick so inaccurately in a final could have cost us - something to work on for 2 weeks.

As for sturt - I heard chambers on 5aa last the week talking about how they are going to play west again in the finals so it is important to play well against them etc etc - NO MENTION of "IF we win against the eagles" it was just a given. I could handle the media experts saying we were making up the numbers, but the sturt players obviously read their own press.

Now it is time for west & centrals to belt the living suitcases out of each other while we sit back & watch.........Although if we lose players like we did in our own internal trial then we'd rather play opposition!

I heard that brenton honor selected the eagles - Uncle steve, maybe you should have held onto him at the bay?

Shirley should be ok to play for us, but the crows may stop stevens from playing, we'll wait & see

GO YOU EAGLES, this could be our year!!

Someone rung up 5DN after the match asking for Andrew Beveridge's match statistics, answer was not many - a handful!!
The caller responded that, "that handful was DOUBLE THAT OF WHEN HE WAS PLAYING FINALS FOR US...............I thought it was very funny, how would this traitor be feeling tonight?

A few things ecked me from todays match:

1. The crowd size was quite appalling, and to hold a final in that size stadium with that size crowd was hardly worth it. I remember Halbert saying on ABCTV one day, some grounds could cope with finals, some not. If we had the AFL finals system with home ground advantage, Sturt would play their final at Unley and it would have been near full for 6,212 people, a much better atmosphere.

2. The volume of the PA System was disgraceful, could not hear a thing. It was right up last night for the AFL but alas woe woe woe just a smaller even today, no need to have it blasting. Could not hear music, could not hear what's his face was talking about, terrible.

Maybe the SANFL should look at home ground finals. Just imagine Centrals v West at Elizabeth, a huge crowd, that place can hold the amount that will intend to go next Sunday, say 10-15 000 people.

Prelim also at home ground. The Grand Final should be moved back to Adelaide Oval, it now has enough seating for 40 000, thats the norm we usually get these days, 30-35 000 over the last 3-4 years.

Someone said on here, hell we own Football Park, why not use it. Could be for these reasons.

Even a neutral but centrally-located suburban ground (eg Richmond, Prossie) would provide a better atmosphere than aluminium stadium.

I could hear it loud and clear.

I am a very very very proud Eagles fan today.

To defeat a bigger, stronger and more experienced Sturt (laced with AFL talent) spoke volumes of the coach, the players and all involved in this sensational win!

How good is Timmy Inkster!!! A sensational talent with speed to burn (AFC looking closely?). But he wasn’t alone – Skippy showed the way again, Cicca was at his sensational best, Bocky great, Lindsay dominated the air, Sammy oozed experience, Passa Passa PASSA was superb all day wreaking havoc in our forward line and his defensive side was tops, Stokesy’s slickness, Vinnie’s toughness, Hally - the best backman in the league, the list goes on…

I am probably missing some other names…but basically the whole team played to their sensational, tough, skilled, determined BEST!

Our TOUGHNESS TOUGHNESS TOUGHNESS was sensational. The boys put body on the line and never showed an ounce of fear or self-doubt, sensational! They made the bigger Sturt players look, dare I say it, soft.

Ronny Fuller deserves high acclaim for his effort in getting the guys up after the last loss to CDFC. Great job Ronny…great job to all the coaching staff.

I am so bloody pumped!!!

GO YOU MIGHTY EAGLES!!!

Great win by the boys

Sturt's much vaunted midfield was flogged from pillar to post in teh first half and it didn't improve much in the second.

Cicolella and Inkster were both fantastic.

Skippy was shocking in the first half but used it much better in the second.

Hentschell and Bock both had solid games and took some good marks.

Lindsay was great in ruck.

Some of the weather was horrendous.. Thought 6,000 was a very good crowd considering the conditions and that the game was live on TV.

Looking forward to probably meeting West in the Prelim.

Eagle Blue

We got both the Prelim and the Grannie here (vic) on Fox Footy last year and I'd imagine this year would be the same.
I'd reckon it will.......

WAFL Grand Final this week
SANFL Prelim the week after (sunday after AFL GF)
SANFL Grand Final the week after that.

I dont support the eagles, but I'm so glad they knocked off an overated Sturt who beat us in last years GF! Great stuff eagles!

Inkster, this guy is a real talent, AFL clubs should be looking at him. Would be more use to the crows than Ronnie Burns IMO!!

I'm an Eagles fan by default so am happy for the result, but can they go any further? It'd have to be a hell of an ask.

If Sturt had got over the line, I think they might have been better placed to take in further.

Still, one match at a time.

The Eagles have shown during the year that they can match it with West and Centrals for PERIODS of the game

We have not been able to play four quarters against either side this year and therefore have lost all the games.

If we play West first I think we can beat them and then anything can happen in a grand final

The return of Shirley and Stevens would be a huge boost but I havn't heard their intentions as yet.

Eags finished H&A 4th. Only lost one match to a team below them (Port @ home by 8 points), and only won one match against a team above them (Sturt @ home by 1 point). Amazing consistency!

That's telling me their done for the year. Their best hope is more rain, the main reason they beat Sturt, imo.

They beat Sturt in the dry before it started raining. WWT were on Sturt's fulltime score at half time - when it hadn't rained. :o

LOL me 2. It was so horrible that the rain/hail even ventured up into the undercovered area on the wing. It was cold and wet! Though I watched the beginning and end on replay last night and the sun was shining - but it was a nasty afternoon!
