Leagues dropping by the wayside.
We tend to discuss this on other threads a bit, but, while flat out at work, I decided to put aside half an hour and get a few stats together.
Using my own website as well as timelord's, as much as I could muster, I've created a spreadsheet which lists which leagues existed during which years.
Its not complete, nor accurate. Some leagues may have the wrong start/end dates. Many I didn't know the start date, so only entered the end date as found on timelord's groovy website :)
But it told the following story (based on incomplete data) :
1946 (start of records) - 72 leagues
1953-55 (highest ebb) - 80 leagues
1985 (short-lived revival) - 68 leagues
2003 (end of records and lowest ebb) - 52 leagues
It definitely shows a drop, but, as I say, the info isn't validated.
