Quality young defender, aged 22, hailing from Victoria, completed his apprenticeship under the guidance of the greatest back 6 of recent years (2000). Taught to punch by Dustin Fletcher, Sean Wellman showed him how to run out of defensive 50, Wallis gave him grunt and has a very natural & strong set of hands. Disposal very good. More than capable of holding down the Full Back position.
He will be accompanied by a slightly taller yet slighty smaller man, also a defender, can play CHB. Has a massive leap, has been used in the ruck, but not very good there. Is very athletic, is quick, can take a very good mark and has good defensive wits.
These two men go by the name of Danny Jacobs & Aaron Henneman, aka DJ & Henno.
These can be delivered to the doors of Alberton Oval for the fantastic price of: Mr Nick Stevens
Always kinda liked Jacobs, but he was atrocious on the weekend, so I'm not convinced he will be any more than a flat track specialist as a floating backman. He plays that role in dry weather quite well though.
Henneman is just a hack ;)

Dunno about Jacobs and Henneman for Stevens.
Wouldnt mind Lucas for him tho.
Jacobs is too small. If he was 5cm taller then with the age our defenders would be good swap, but would be a risk to punt on him taking either Wakes or Paco's spot. If Port were to do a trade with Essendon involving him I wouldn't want Henneman.
More along the lines of Jacobs + Essendon's first pick (14) for Nick Stevens. Even that would have Port being done over. There are much better trades possible if Stevens is resigned to going back to Victoria. There's a certain poetic justice that if he does go home he has to play for Collingwoods most despised opponent, him being a Pies boy. Short of a trade that is very clearly in Port's favour I don't want him traded to the Pies.

I've always had a soft spot for DJ. He might be small but he's worked really hard to earn his place (when its been offered) in the backlines.
Never really thought much of Henneman. I figure Essendon wouldnt want to let him go but would you consider Stevens in a straight swap for Solomon?
Pickett, Hardwick, Carr, Wilson, Solomon.. <insert drool here>
If we were to trade Stevens for anything Essendon has to offer I'd want their package to include Hille and a young defender. Hille was taken apart but he could be built into something. Although Ackland will have a good time on his own at the Magpies next season to prove whether we need another ruckman or not.

I dont think we'll be needing Hille as far as ruckmen goes. Matt and Ladey wont be around forever, and to state the bleeding obvious, Broges will be promoted to first ruck once Matt retires, even though that wont be for a few years yet. Lade might fade out at that time aswell, and by that time, Ackers will be pushing for a senior spot. He's looking more and more like Matt every day, he's got the whole 'gorilla arms' thing going, has a huge leap and quite a few of us have seen his potential around the ground. From memory he's only twenty, actually on checking the site he's twenty one, so give him another year in the seniors down at Alberton/Ethelton and I'd say by 2005 he'll be pushing for a senior spot.

If that trade ever happened I'd go and hold the club up at gunpoint. Something that stupid we might as well chuck in Tredrea for Rioli.
JAcobs is ****e against decent competition. The Tredrea's of this world always make him look hopeless. Henneman, er no.
Lucas, now there is an interesting name, 25 years old, can play up forward or down back, could be swapped during games with JT. Would be awesome to have. A trade for Stevens wouldn't be totally stupid.

Jacobs is exactly the sort of tall defender that we don't need. Bishop and Thurstans are already good third-best defenders. We need someone to fill the top of the rung, not the bottom.
Henneman. Pfft. Dons fans have been shopping him around since they got him. Again, we don't need bottom rung players.

A good trade. Though Dons aren't in salary cap trouble this year so we can't do our usual steal for not much job. I'd reckon we'd have to be the one to sweeten this trade up. How about Stevens + Morgan for Lucas + 3rd round pick ? They get a quality midfielder and a tall, we get the CHB/CHF (with him allow Chad to become more a CHB in more games when required as you've stated) and another draft pick can use, or on trade.

Where do we sign? The problem is Lucas is coming off a great year and is probably pretty content with Melbourne life.

Sorry guys, Lucas is not for trade. And who's JT?

Don't know if that's actually making it any sweeter for them, althoug it does give them a young prospect at CHB.
As you have said we'd probably have to chuck in a little something extra.

The number of players fans think are not up for trade if the right deal comes along is generally a lot more then a club would have on it's list. I'd suggest at Essendon the truly untouchables are Hird, Lloyd, Fletcher, Mark Johnson. Port would equally have only in my opinion Wanganeen, Primus, Tredrea and Francou on a list that you'd have to offer WAY over odds to even be considered.
Lucas has had one good year and is older the Stevens, who's had his best year also, but has been more consistent across the last 3 or 4 seasons. I don't think Port will make a serious play for Lucas (although on consideration if Nick Stevens wants to return home and Essendon lamentating their midfield depth after the loss to Port it'd be a good win-win trade with some tinkering on the edges) if they did Essendon would be remiss not to look long and hard at it.
