The latest word from insiders at Glenferrie is that, of the "talked-about-trades" Holland, Hay, Rawlings, Barker and Thompson there are ONLY two that could possibly go.
Holland or Rawlings.
Thompson, Barker and Hay will be kept at all costs.

It now depends on the players' wages being sorted for the salary cap.

Ideally, the club would like to keep Rawlings AND Holland but understands that either Rawlings may CHOOSE to go or then Holland may HAVE to go (much as it pains me to say it).

Surely theyd rather keep rawlings than Barker?

How about a 3 way?

Pick #5 to Hawks, Rawlings to Crows, Goodwin to Melbourne.

Everybody's happy. :D

We are CRYING for an experienced midfielder who will go in and under and get the ball. He might only have 4 or 5 good years left in him but I wouldnt do it if I didn't believe he could make the difference between us making and not making finals.

Maybe I overrate my side but I believe a midfield of Goodwin, Yze, Thompson, Armstrong, Johnstone, McDonald, Godfrey, Whelan, Wheatley and Bell could be the best going around as soon as next year.

I'd be willing to give up anything upto the value of pick 5 to get him.

Yes we would love to keep Rawlings, but he may choose to go. Barker still has value not only as the friendly neighbourhood morale officer, but he showed a bit of form at CHB in the last couple of games this year....even though he can't seem to get above a jog.

Yep, you overrate your team :D

You still cant go past Voss, Black, Akermanis, Lappin, Power, B Scott, Shattock etc

If Brown had to go, then I probably wouldn't be all that disappointed in this trade, y'know. Think Hawthorn would be the big losers out of it though.

BTW, the next jumper you will see John Barker in is the one featured to the left!!! Not for a couple of years though

Overrated indeed.

I'd take Brisbane's, WCE's and Port's over that lot any day. Freo, Saints, Crows and probably a couple others could claim to at the very least be equal with that lot.

But then again, what do I know of Melbourne's players ;)

As much as I would hate to see Goody go, I would seriously consider accepting this deal.

I'd do it in a nanosecond. Ahhh Broady, if only you were in charge of your club's trade deals.....

Once I finish laughing over how the Hawks would rather keep Hay or Barker instead of Rawlings.

Sure, but what you're really dying for is an experienced midfielder who will go in and under and get the ball AND get it to a teammate. Goodwin's penchant for bombing it long forward as soon as he gets it makes his clearances less than useful, especially if you're trying to use a structured forward line with leading forwards.

Seriously, just keep the #5 and take your pick of the top-line Victorian midfielders that are available this year - the mad desire for talls that the Dogs and Carlton have could see you with an excellent selection. You can wait a year of development for 10 years of service.

Looks like Broady is loaded up on horse tranquilsers again, and possibly crystal meth

no way do the Demons release pick 5 for a 25/26 year old (unsure of his age)

Porthos, don't confuse him with common sense.

Have to agree.

We should not look at releasing our early picks unless it involves Nathan G Brown.

I don't know if we can wait another year if we want to make the most of our current list. By the time the #5 pick develops (if he does develop and with our track record he won't), Adem Yze, David Nietz, Clint Bizzell, Alastair Nicholson, Nathan Brown, Peter Vardy, Daniel Ward, Jeff White, Guy Rigoni, Gary Moorcroft, James McDonald and Peter Walsh will all be entering retirement and the peaks of their careers wasted. This is well and good if nobody can see any hope in our current list but I believe we have the basis of a good side NOW.

If we don't get in an experienced midfielder now we can probably say bye bye to any finals chances we have for the next 3-4 years and may as well start rebuilding again for the 27th time.

Youre definitely selling Goodwin short as a player. He is a decent enough kick and is invaluable in tight. We have Adem Yze, Travis Johnstone, Steven Armstrong, Cameron Bruce and even Daniel Bell coming through who can hit targets and his experience would be priceless.

Maybe I'm overrating my side again but if we replaced Goodwin for the #5 pick, got in Whitnall for Jeff White and a Cupido for Brad Green or Russell Robertson, I would run down to the TAB right now and put 500 on us making the top 4.

We don't need Nathan G Brown. He's another Travis Johnstone who can play forward. We have enough of his type already.

The Bulldogs will benefit from getting rid of him.

Just let me add that I think we could get Goodwin for a lot less than the #5 pick, but that's how far I'd go to get him.

A straight swap for White would be ideal.

I'd take Hay, Thompson or Rawlings definitely.

Barker and Holland have very little to offer.

Goodwin for Holland seems fair. Perhaps draft picks being swapped in favour of the Crows to sweeten it as well.

Perhaps a little wisdom should be imparted.

Joel Smith is an example of why footy clubs should be patient with players who are proven at the top level. Smith spent two year out after a knee injury. Last year he missed most of the season. To trade Barker or Holland when they have just become injury free would be short sighted.

In a perfect world the hawks would keep all their talls but unless they are prepared to trade Graham, Rawlings is the man on the outer.

Perhaps Melbourne should invest in a quality defender, not a midfielder. Anyway next year is an even year (2004). They'll make the finals and surprise everyone, but miss the flag.

My money is Rawlings will stay at Hawthorn.
With everyone else (they want) signed up, Jade's just holding
out for as much as he can. He will be labelled a 'money-chaser' with
all the club and players have done to ensure that he CAN stay, if he goes elsewhere for more. He has already said a number of times that he wants to
stay...pressure is on him, not the club.
