Nick Stevens will play with Coliingwood next year, the offer according to Hutchy on 3aw last Friday was between 400-450 thousand. Very surprised if he stays with Port, could well be playing his last match on Saturday.:)

Fine. Whatever. I think every Port supporter is sick to death of Nick's "will he won't he waltz". If he goes he goes. We'll deal. But be prepared to cough up big time. And don't be surprised if a 3 way deal is required cos Collingwood have nothing we want. Including Didak.

Collingwood is probably a preferred trading partner, because you can't threaten to use the preseason draft - you'll have 9 Victorian clubs picking before you. So we would get a good deal.

What would you look for? I was thinking a top 3 draft pick plus maybe an older but established player (eg Camporeale, S Burns). Scott Lucas has some appeal (Essendon r supposed to be very keen on Nick) - that would stitch up CHB for 5 years - but he's apparently about to sign a new deal with Essendon.

Or am I overestimating Nick's value?

Nick is doing his best to drive his value down the last couple of weeks. But he's been the best midfielder this year in the side that finished top by 3 games. If that doesn't give him a damn high value I don't know what does.

Lucas will do.

With Stevens going it will mean some good game time from Salopek & Ebert, who i reckon, given a couple of years will be atleast as good as Stevens.

Or am I overestimating Nick's value? Unfortunately a top 3 pick wouldl just see us most likely in a vicious circle - the best SA player is Cooney, and I doubt the next one will be due to be picked before late in the first round. If we could get #1 outright, that'd be worth it.

Lucas would be good, but Essendon would be silly to get rid of him. Their aging tall problem is probably worse than ours.

Another possibility is to try and score Daniel Bell and Nick Smith off Melbourne.

Corey Enright is always on my get list. If we could get him and either a pick, or a couple of pick upgrades, that'd be a good one.

Maybe a three-way with West Coast getting us Daniel Kerr. Yes, I'm in fantasy land now.

As for overvaluing, no. Right now, Nick Stevens has the highest trade value he'll likely ever command in his career - he's the perfect fix for a Vic side that reckon they just need one more top player to make a surge.

If one of our higher-paid players wants to leave this could very well be a good opportunity to relieve some pressure on the salary cap. One of the options open here is to broker a trade that will release a high draft pick to us. With maybe a second-tier player who would not command a huge salary.
With Brogans' increased salary and with other players to sign we are pushing on the cap. The new veteran's rules may give us some space but the match committee may prefer to give themselves a bit of latitude for future negotiations.

No chance of that even being considered.

We aren't going to trade 2 first round picks who have both shown plenty in their first year (including a KP forwad we are crying out for) for 1 midfielder. It will not happen.

You had plenty of ruckman when you traded Brooks away.

You had plenty of ruckman when you traded Brooks away. Not young ones. Even Brogan is mid 20s.

He has already signed with Geelong so that is now not a possibility due to the new AFLPA ruling.

More than likely you'd wind up dealing with Collingwood anyway ... and they're always more than happy to trade Scotland and Kinnear ... ;)

Isn't there a running debate about when that actually comes into effect?

From my understanding, if Corey wanted to come home then he could be traded, but Geelong would still have to pay part of his salary. Dont quote me on that though.

As for Stevens, I've heard a lot of talk about Kinnear. Six years and he's shown nothing (thanks Hoggy). Part of me isnt sure whether it would be a worthwhile investment, and the other part of me wonders whether he would flourish in SA. Havent really seen enough of him to comment.

All of me says we don't need to trade for another tall backman that's been around for a while without doing anything that'll need time to determine whether they're total crap or not. We already have enough of them.

If we're that desperate, lets redraft Stephen Daniels.

If we trade Stevens for Ben Kinnear then ill drown myself in the Port river.

Kinnear is a dud. If we are going for a key defender, then it has to be someone of complete quality (Lucas/Presti), not someone that has been on a list for years and struggles to get games. Weve got two of them already.

I am afraid that most of our wishes might be wasted.

If Williams behaves according to his true self, he will do all that he can to keep Stevens and Kingsley, and trade/delist Guerra Cassisi Poulton etc.
He just doesn't like players that aren't fast. No matter how good or dedicated they might be.

Our number one trade priority should be the same as it was last year for those of us that remember.

GET A FRICKING GAME DAY TACTICIAN.

You obviously do not follow our team and thus have no idea of what I am talking about.
