Anyone watch the Magarey on Tuesday night. What a farcical coverage by Channel 9.

Firstly, they didn't do any progress scores. The only way anyone knew who was leading was the leaderboard every 4 rounds or so.

Secondly, they didn't put an asterisk next to suspended players, so I had no-idea who was elligable and who was not.

Thirdly, the didn't put the votes on screen for the last 4 rounds.

Fourthly, the votes from the Centrals v South game in round 23 were not read out. I thought I had just missed them, but other Centrals supporters made this observation too.

Apparantly they also got some of the scores wrong for some of the games.

Also, was it just me, or did the voiceover for the votes for rounds 1-19 appear to be pre-recorded.

This was an absolutely pathetic job by Channel 9, and I hope the SANFL ban them for life from ever doing the count again. Give the coverage to 7 or 10!

I just hope this isn't a sign of what's to come for the Brownlow.

BTW Congratulations to Brett Ebert on winning it.

They did put asterik's on the leader board of who was inelligable

But the count wasn't that bad, it was better than nothing at all. I was happy with it. :)

Good luck. It's not a matter of giving the coverage; more a case of a network agreeing to do it.

As Loz said, it was better than nothing...

i thought it was a crap effort by nine. they had a while to prepare it and ended up making themselves look like amateurs.

Be thankful - we don't get the Grogan medal count on TV or radio. In fact the media doesn't even mention it in the sport news. Then again, we don't see any AFLQ games on TV or radio, scores on tv or radio - f*ck - we don't see any of our local footy whatsoever anywhere !!!

Like the Broncos and rugby league, certain areas in charge think footy begins and ends with the AFL .....

Hey - do you SA guys listen to 4TAB in the mornings down there ?

I don't think I've been so bored. It made Big Brother seem exciting!! And how was Fred Phillis going on about being the only full forward to win a major state award. Has he ever heard of Tony Lockett or Scott Hodges?

In 1969, nobody else had heard of Lockett or Hodges either.

...

Dillon said the first 19 rounds were pre-recorded.
One wonders if you were really watching at all!

I must have missed it then, because the power went out at our place at the start of the coverage.

BTW, the power was restored by the start of the count though.

Pre-recorded?

So the counting of the votes wasn't done there and then?

I didnt have a problem with it. It was alot better than channel 2's pathetic coverage. The only negative was there not being a progressive tally in brackets next to each votegetter.
The positives were - It went for a reasonable amount of time,it was presented far more formally than channel 2 ever did and they had decent highlights packages. These factors all gave it a feeling of being important compared to channel 2 who couldnt get it done quick enough.

Spot on.

Normally I don't bother watching Magarey coverage - it bores me senseless. I did watch this year in the hope of seeing a bit of 9's archival footage. While I enjoyed what was shown, it was still very, very little.

Is there any reason 9 couldn't compile a few "best-of" compilations from its archives and release this to the public on DVD/video?

Did Ebert thank his parents, especially his mum and dad?

The word is that there was a "fire" that destroyed much of the old footage. IMO they taped over them to save money on new tape (ala the ABC) .

I thought the coverage was ****house, personally.

The pre-recorded votes was crap, and the lack of a progress score was terrible and detracted from the "excitement" factor. Trying to add up the scores in my head to work out who was in with a shot was painful.

But I guess it was better than nothing... just...
