This weekend saw the Suns play their third home game on the actual Gold Coast, so the NRL did as they are doing this year to fight the expansion team and had their home team play there as well a couple of hours later.

Despite playing the Western Bulldogs, who - no offence intended - are hardly a massively supported club nor particularly successful (especially this year), the Suns still managed to outdraw the other code's local team to the tune of 16,149 to 12,997.

The numbers of bums on seats is by no means the only fight that the Suns & Giants need to win in order to survive and thrive, but getting dominance in this critical area so soon is surely a great sign for both their future & that of GWS.

Any opinions?

Who cares. NRL is a game for neanderthal's. The gap between the NRL and AFL is so wide, the two should rarely be mentioned in the same sentence.

AFL are blowing a lot of money pushing its code. Not sure if it is worth it, as NRL will win eventually thanks to the bogans breeding more than those with half a brain. The movie idiocracy is the NRL's boards dream.

Very encouraging numbers for the Suns. They're doing well in building support up there, even though the team is struggling on the field.

In a crowded sporting environment like Australia, there's always going to be comparisons between the codes. Crowd figures will favour us, TV ratings will favour the other mob.
But ultimately, whether the Giants succeed or fail, will happen independently of what the NRL does. The indications are that the Giants are being well set up, that the AFL and Giants administration seem to know what they're doing.
Everyone loves a code war, and comparisons are always interesting. But it's not a zero sum game, and it's possible for all sports to increase simultaneously.
