With the injuries to the Hawthorn players and the "pending" suspension to Lewis it will be interesting to see how our Team looks on Thursday night. Hopefully one or two Hawthorn and Box Hill players back and a chance to reward some of the Development squad players for their good form so far this year.

Personally I would like to see Dylan Van Unen get another game.

Would love to see Aaron Johns and Robert Allen get a game if positions open up on the half back line (but doubt it will happen).

Any thoughts or favorite players you would like to see?

Box Hill team.

Note, this is a 1.10pm game televised on ABC.

Welcome back and good luck to X Ellis. We need a strong performance from him in the next 2 weeks to push for selection in the seniors.

Strange that Laddo is not playing given he trained this week.

Langford is not playing as he is injured.

Pay attention to Menegola this rookie will be a star as well as Wanga.

Like to see Milne show something this week to add to our depth.

Given Sundays game, I assume Lowden will be held back with Sirra.

Halahan is the only HFC listed player which is an indication of our injuries. Surprised he is not playing seniors, this kid trained strongly during the week, and should excel in the development squad.

Today's team may look something like this, now that the senior team has been finalised.

B Duryea Pollard Mirra
HB Sierakowski Boumann Gilchrist
C Milne Ellis Williams
HF Wanganeen Pattison Jackson
F Morton Menegola Andrews
R Lowden
RR Gibson

R Schneider
IC Kiel, Van Unen, Tobin, Monkhorst, Neil, Kitchen, B Fagan, Northe

Just a rough guide. I think the "Monkhorst" named isn't Box Hill's Ben, but his younger brother Zach?

Not a strong side, and Collingwood will have the likes of Goldsack,
Ben Johnson, MacAffer & Buckley running around, but at the City Oval, we should have an advantage.

FT & SS (actually better add JP to that:D)

Mahony is playing sorry.

He like langers, is a NSW Rookie chosen over T Stubbs.

He is 18, and has an AFL body. Terrific physique. With that, you can compare his body to mitchell. Like Mitch he is slow.

He most likely will be starting of HBF, so needs to show elite kicking skills and footy brains to excel to AFL level.

Watch for Halahan as well, playing for dev squad. This kid will be a star.

Great win by the Hawks -- just got home from the match

Of the Hawthorn listed ...

Ellis if he pulls up well should be an inclusion for the seniors next week against the Lions -- won the game there at the end.

Best game I have seen from Morton in a loooong time. Should be considered - good games from Duryea, Wanganeen and Milne (in that order)

Great to beat the magpies !!!!!!

I am not a Morton fan, but he did some really good things including a goal from 70 Metres out, i was impressed, he has some talent thats why we have kept him all these years,

Wangas did some good things but needs to get stronger, and as others have said Lowden looks a player,

Pretty excited by Lowden, particularly his skills for a big man. Decent tap ruckman, and also can take a mark , but his agility and disposal is great to watch for a 206cm ruckman.

Not having a go at the system of development but having blokes that have played a few games and train together can make a huge difference. The DS shows this week in and week out. Love to see the win and hopefully 2 more wins will follow tomorrow (and one tonight)

Really impressed with Luke Lowden today, his first 5 minutes he was in absolutely everything. I think as the match went on his fitness tarted to show as he had less of an influence. But then again he kicked the winner :)

Wanga showed a bit, but I think with the role he plays he has to be near perfect with the ball, kicking accurately nearly every chance he gets. I'm referring to his early miss, which was really poor. With players that are of short stature they have to have some brilliant facet in their game to be selected for the big smoke. I don't think he is that pacy and nor a brilliant user. Obviously has a big leap, shown by a couple of spectacular grabs. I seem rather negative on him but all in all he played quite well, definetely in our top 5 imo. Also we have to recognize that if he does get an opportunity with the hawkers sometime in the future (2012 maybe...), he will not be given chances to really take the big marks like he did today. I think the pies blocking was poor and against a top team theres no chance a player like Wanga will be given an open crack at the footy. Anyway I was quite pleased with his display and hopefully he continues to develop, he already has quite a bit this season from what I can gather.

Duryea, was very good in my opinion. Really happy with the way he set up the play and he has a very long kick on him. A massive shame that he isn't that few centimetres taller, as he then would have been coming into senior calculations from my reckoning. Thought he was quite good defensively and offensively and I think he is a similar player to a Ladson of '08 :) Heres hoping anyway!!!

I was also very impressed with Jarryd Morton. He tooked quite a few very solid grabs and showed enough to me to suggest he is closing in on selection. Kicked poorly on a few occasions but overall was great. 70 metre goal was amazing (wind assisted of course), and I think when the going got tough he rised to a new level. If we cop another injury, god forbid, I will not be unhappy with this man coming into the team and givinga solid contest.

X man played a solid, 24 possesion game (think it was 24 may have been more). Brilliant kick to Lowden to set up the win and was an obvious leader in the huddles through every quarter. Showed a lot of class as the game wore on, and I think form a senior point of view give him another week or two, and then he will no doubt be ready for a big second half and finals series to come from this man. He played a half back role, in which he showed composure and for once in his time did not look injured, nor did he get a facial injury of some sort. Really pleased with his game and fingers crossed he pulls up well.

Sierakowski did not play due to him being an emergency for tomoz. Umm not too sure if or who I left out but hopefully you guys will enjoy that review.

Good win by the boys and it's good to see that we still have youngsters continue to come out and push for selection. I'm a happy hawker, but now for the big one tomorrow!

Lowden not required now but it was great to see we have a solid contributor as a back-up.

Watched Ellis closely (I was at the match)- he spent half the match on the bench. His impact considering his few minutes was super impressive! Looking forward to watching him in the ones very soon

I wont' bother with the write up given the game was on tv but some observations:

Hawthorn Listed

Xavier Ellis: He was only supposed to play half a game today apparently but due to his competitive nature played out the whole game. Was used sparingly in the first half so that he could run out the game. He showed his class in the last few minutes of the game. Really important going forward that Ellis is able to get fit and hungry.

Jarryd Morton: Gradually getting some football games into him after missing the season so far. He is building his fitness base took a very important contested mark in the last also played all over the ground.

Riley Milne: Played his best game for Box hill this week. I thought he really put in today. Yes he made some mistakes dropped marks, skill errors but couldn't doubt his hunger for the contest need a few more games like this Riley keep it up.

Tom Schneider: A player of the future had a good game today needs another pre season. Gets the ball shows great footy nouse turns it over now and then but that is to be expected. Look forward to his development and fitness over the rest of this year.

Derick Wanganeen: Had 5 minutes at the end of that 2nd quarter where he was irresistible. Good forward pressure but still needs some time to develop some fitness.

Luke Lowden: Well the hero what can u say Stephen Gilham ( who Lukey boards with) actually didn't believe he could kick it and now owes young Lowden a sloppy kiss (i dare say lukey won't hold him to it). Took some good marks in the forward line and around the ground still learning the caper will be a star in the ruck in the future. I hope he gets a taste of the big league this year perhaps round 24?

Taylor Duryea: Had a good game i thought was great across half back in providing a contest and run from the half back flank.

Jordan Williams: Got in it today but struggled to impose himself into the contest.

Sam Menegola: Needs to play a few more games to get himself up with the game plan and speed of the game at box hill level. He has elite fitness so will just be about him being able to hit the contest.

Box Hill Listed:

Sam Gibson: Great game again by the captain. Would most definitely be leading the B&F

David Mirra: This kid needs to be hawthorn listed next year. I think he is a natural defender. Played another great game in defence. Really missed him againts Bendigo two weeks ago.

Jarrad Boumann: Great game in defence from him today took some great contested marks and provided run from the backline.

other mentions Pattison, Andrews and Gilchrist the latter kicked a 80 metre bomb through for a point in that last quarter. All in all a thrilling last quarter.

We saw the good BH and the bad BH today. Fortunately there was enough good BH to get us the win.

Was impressed by Morton and Ellis as pretty much the only 2 Hawthorn experienced players playing.

Like the looks of Wanganeen and Schnieder. Get their fitness up and there's the future of Hawthorn.

Menegola showed some real smarts today. Smart disposal and good positioning around the ground.

Often very hard to guage how players are going at the lower level, especially up forward. Menagola didnt smash it possession wise but had time when he got the ball. It is a trait you cant teach. When he starts to use his big engine, he will be very good.

Yeh I think Menagola is coming along nicely for his first year. Nothing flashy so not noticed as much as others but has skill and takes a good mark. The Bombers game he started slowly but actually went against the trend and improved as the game went on for his first senior game.

Best game from Morton in a long time. He was moving far more freely than he has been. His attack on the game was first rate. Same for XL. Will be back in the ones sooner rather than later.

Not sold on Lowden's ruck work. He was pushed off the ball way too easily. I was hoping to see more improvement.

What is wrong with Menegola? Nice hands, great balance, good vision and good skills. Seems pretty solid to me. Looks like the proto type HFF.

Yep Morton was good day. Best game for the year by a mile.

Ellis was good, looks to be over his injuey.

I wouldn't be too worried with Lowden's ruckwork.. He's effectivly only a second year player and is still pretty raw. Once he gains muscle he'll be better in the ruck.

Thought Riley Milne was outstanding. Finished with something like 38 possessions. Great game, best on by a mile.

If the club doesn't draft Boumann, I'll be quite disappointed. Particularly after picking some other blokes ahead of players like Ed Curnow, Cam Pedersen and Luke Markovic. The club seems to have a reluctance to draft Box Hill blokes based on a few past failures, which they need to get over.

I'm not that keen on Boumann just yet. He has had one or two good games, had 7 goals kicked on him at Williamstown. Plus there are several better tall KPD in the VFL, and one played for Collingwood yesterday.

I was at the game and came back and watched the ABC broadcast on a home recording.

Gee I was impressed with Sam Gibson who had a microphone stuck under his nose with his team down by 3 with 5 minutes to go and was very composed and measured. Following a nailbiting win the microphone was there again and he conducted himself so professionally, talking about AFL/VFL alignments etc, he's a credit to himself and Box Hill.

I think his AFL time has probably passed by, but Box Hill officials should everything to keep this bloke at the club.

The combination of height and pace, alone, and the dearth of defensive talls in the AFL, should see him a monty to be at least Rookie listed.

Casey's Tim Mohr and Sandy's Sean Tighe are likely tall defenders to come under scrutiny this year.

I tend to agree that he is rookie material rather than the main list.

Couple of occasions when he was put under pressure on the weekend he went to water without any composure at all. He doesn't seem like a reliable backman to me but that observation is from 1 game only and from a TV viewing rather than live. I can see the the height and pace attraction but looked a bit all over the shop for mine.

Hard to say from that game because it was his first back from injury. Lacks a bit of leg speed but again could be fitness related because it his first game back

Mirra is the one to keep an eye on come draft time. Boumann has been a rookie before and it didn't work probably for the same reasons Roger noted.

Boumann is too skinny too. Mirra is more AFL ready body wise but he'll still need to bulk up a bit more. Mirra also has age working on his size.
Mirra - 21 in 2012
Boumann - 23 in 2012.
