View Full Version : The new Bears?
I have been thinking of writing this for a while and know most people will disagree but here goes.I believe our rumored or potential recruiting is ordinary to say the best, every player we are "rumored" to be talking to or interested are running a million miles and resigning with there own clubs. Thomas, Pendlebury,Swan,Bartel to name a few. The only one that looks confirmed is Rhys Palmer who is hardly a star. The player who I believed was going to be our marquee signing was Scully, yet I just heard his manager say on on the couch that Melbourne should be confident that he's staying, he is clearly just trying to use us to get a higher contract. Finishing up if the best we can do is Palmer and maybe a Taylor Walker or Callum Ward It is going to be a long hard road, and if we are not reasonably successful from the start we will get no crowds and the good kids we draft will all leave the club. Just my opinion. Cheers

Firstly you need to realize the high quality of young player we will have on our books, in fact people in the know have said that the top 15 of this draft appear to be of a higher level then the top 15 of last years draft.
Secondly you are also clearly unaware of the 4 17 year olds that we will draft to other clubs, which other clubs will pay a high prize to get and the names that have been floated by other clubs are impressive.
Thirdly over the next 4 months you will start hearing the signings coming out and you will actually see that we will have a very young and exciting list that will be pushing for a finals berth within 3 years.

Mate as I said it is just an opinion and I stand by it,to say we have great young players will do no good when you have to sell tickets to games, the truth is when it comes to signings I'm not as hopeful as you. There are not or no big names left of contract,we need a marquee not cast offs that other clubs don't want. I have no doubt we will pick up great young players in the draft, but as soon as there contracts are up I can see them heading back to Melbourne,or Perth

What you are clearly unaware of is that in Sydney a big name in AFL will mean nothing to crowds, what will was the signing of Folau - sydneysiders are interested in his journey. Also I have no doubts that within 3 years we will be pushing for a finals berth.
Also you need to remember we can sign uncontracted players this year and next and from what I have heard we have some serious talent coming our way over this 2 year period.
As for players leaving to go home I will back our program that they will want to stay, but if they do want to leave it will come at a high price for any club that wants them.

As I live in the region that the afl is trying to capture (kellyville) I know what the people here want and don't want. To point to the Folau signing, people in the west of Sydney ( even the tongan community) hate him for the fact he turned his back on nsw and played for qld.
So you managed to use goggle maps and find a location in sydney, good for you. But that still doesn't change the fact your completely wrong - but I guess your use to being wrong.
If you think the people of the West of Sydney are excited by Shiel or treloar or even hampton you are dreaming. We want stars not young kids who unless you are an afl tragic would never heard about. So captain how about you accept the premise that we expect some big name signings, and you say we will be looked after when or if the young players leave, what like the Swans were when Rocca, Grant and Gasper left.

Wait until they see what our list is before saying GWS is the new bears, no true GWS supporter would say we are the new bears. Don't be so negative.

As a supporter if you are excited by the players we are linked to you are easy pleased. Callum Ward, Taylor Walker or Rhys Palmer are not marquee signings in anyones world.

So you seem to think that GWS will shut shop now that there got ward, palmer and walker - is that what your saying?
When the truth of the matter GWS has more players then these locked up and will continue to chase player to get a more balanced list then the suns had when they started, so if you waited to atleast October you would see that is the case.
We won't know who'll be lining up for us until the end of the year (and we've been a lot quieter than GC in leaking who will), but there's no way we're the new Bears - you're obviously not aware of the Bears' history, when they got donated the injured and retired of the other clubs. If we get Ward or Walker or Palmer or Scully, that's better than the Bears got. We're the new GC if anything.

The key word you use there is chase players and we can only go on rumor and innuendo and every A grade player we have been linked with resigns with there own club. I don't doubt we will sign players whether they are the quality we need is the question

Discuss the issues rather than sniping at each other please - I've had to edit most posts on this thread. I'm locking this thread, there'll be infractions next time.
