Per the scoreboard at the ground :

Richmond Centrals 3.7.25
Fitzroy Reds 13.18.96

VERY west conditions, and actually a decent display considering the torrential rain we had at one stage.

One point of interest. A Richmond player with a free kick in the back pocket, close to the boundary, went to transfer play across the ground, completely skewed his clearing pass, kicking it straight into the near goalpost.

FitzroyRamone will have more details when he next gets online.

Fitzroy showed great spirit it what was an old fashioned day to be at the footy. Real fans don't need roofs over the ground.

Other highlights of the day include a female boundary umpire trying to enter a wet T-shirt competition during the first half storm.

The other was the way the guys sang the club song after the match. Plenty of spirit which is a good sign for the year.

Thanks Kev my pommy mate (Darren) is now addicted to Aussie Rules and he said he will be going to Brunny St next Satdy, first time he'd seen a game ( or was it what he'd been smoking).

Levo,

Darren turned up at the PoW and asked FitzroyRamone if anyone knew me. So that worked out very easily.

Darren seemed to absolutely love the game, reckoned that the flow-on character of the play made it really entertaining.

There were some good skills, especially considering the weather (FitzroyRamone suggested at one stage that it was nearly as good a skills display as a VFL/VFA standard), marking the ball in one-outs with a very wet ball in teeming rain, and they were picking the ball up cleanly off the lake as often as they were struggling to do so.

There were some physical clashes, mainly shepherds and such, and some very good smothering, the smothers probably coming from Richmond more often than from Fitzroy.

So it was actually a good spectacle to show him.

Did he tell you that he actually WALKED there from the Royal Derby?

Yes, he reckons he'll certainly be at Brunswick Street next weekend.

Levo has apparently replied again on this thread, and yet I cannot see the reply. Maybe this post might push it along for me.

I presume you mean to put a pic up with Darren in it at the next game? Ok well come back to that site in an hour from now and there should be a pub photo up with him in it.

In that match I saw of the Redz last season, I reckoned the skill level was actually quite good (well, at least above what I expected it to be).

There were some good marking contests, along with pretty good running play, and disposal of the ball.

It definitely rated better watching than a lot of the games from the EFL, that I've seen in the last few years (unless you're looking at some of the better sides).

I wonder, considering Frodo's request last week, as to how the Roys went, perhaps we should post this weeks results on the WCE's board???

Amusing joust between Frodo and you folks!

Take note though that one bloke on the Eagles forum has actually mentioned that its a bit distracting to see Roys posts on their board.

No-one's complaining at this stage, but if the humour of the issue passes us by, and anything becomes bitter at all, I might have to put a leash on you bludgers http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Remember, its not a race, but if both the Roys and the WCE forum lock horns, roll in the dust, and tumble past the Dees total (which looks like happening soon), I won't know whether to laugh or cry!

If youse do wish to make a competition out of it, should we be counting posts like 'Let's overtake {insert team board} now', 'yes, let's', 'Oh, goodie' and 'Yay we did it'?

Personally, though, if a joust such as this causes BOTH boards to identify a greater number of relevant topics to discuss, then I think its good for the boards overall.

Good for football!

Or, re the mighty Roy - 'God for football!'
