Im in Canberra so I cant go. But I would love to hear what is going on behind the scenes
Ended up ditching the work outing and went to this with my wife.
Pretty good night. Missed the first ten minutes because of traffic, but a quick summary:
- High level presentation from Sheeds.
- Presentation on player welfare from Craig Lambert.
- Presentation on player development from Brett Hand.
- Presentation on sports science by John Quinn.
- Presentation on forward line coaching by Alan McConnell.
- Presentation on coaching and training by Choco.
Craig's presentation was great, it was really good to see the lengths of how they're taking these boys under their wing. It was also interesting to hear how they encourage the kids to coach themselves and each other several times. You notice how some coaches have players under them become good coaches as compared to other's - well, Sheedy and Choco already have a track record there and you can see why.
McDonnell's talk was a bit rambling but as my wife said, it was less of a presentation and more like what they'd actually do at training. Different perspective there.
I think the best question of the night came from a little kid down the front to Choco - "What's it like being a coach?" Basically, from his answer, not as good as being a player. :D

Really enjoyed it. I got a good idea of who was really running the show between Chocco and Sheedy, too.
Yeah, I get the impression that Sheedy is the Bomber Thompson of the two, with Choco James Hird except for the job titles and the fact that Choco's actually won something.
I also found it interesting to note that they've largely got Essendon (Sheedy, Quinn), Brisbane (Lambert, Allen) and Port (Williams) people in the various positions which covers the 2000-2004 premierships between them. Silvagni's an exception to the rule.
Any hints on who they've signed?
How many people showed up?
No hints on signing, but there was a round of laughter when they showed a slide containing examples of player types that we could get (recent early picks) included Scully. However the presenter also claimed Ablett was a number 1 draft pick, so I wouldn't read anything into it.
I'm terrible at estimating crowds but I'd guess maybe a hundred or so.
