Once and for all do we move heaven and earth and get Nick Stevens. Its a difficult one as our midfield is strong but we may need an injection like Stevens. I would like some feedback.

He would definitely be an asset to us. Particularly with Burns and Buckley entering their thirties. You've got to think they've probably got only a couple of years left in the middle at least. Bucks may go on longer but probably forward. Nick Stevens is still mid-20s. He's extremely talented and wants to play with us. I think if we can get him, it would be an extremely good pick up.

We also could use a ruckman and/or another key forward to back up Tarrent and Rocca.

Didak, just recently re-signed with the pies. I know that in modern day footy that doesn't mean much but I would sugest that they will keep him has many people including my self have said that he has had a less then ordinary year, but he has still managed to kick 36 goals for a small forward that hasn't had a good year. Please, tell me that is a good efort. That is a good effort in any bodys book.

agreed. We probably need Didak more than Stevens - a skilful small forward that can kick goals. Although Stevens will be a handy addition to the team, I dont think we have what it takes to get him from a trade.
I would rather go for Brown

we need :

1 more quality midfielder- ie stevens
1 big quality backman
1 quality ruckman to help josh
1 big quality foward

once we have filled these holes we shall give brisbane a run for there money, not that we shouldn't have this year.

you need

1 - to stop thinking youre so good
2 - to realise Rocca being out wouldn't have made a difference but know you have something to blame youre loss on

Collingwood the only team with no colours

If we get one of the bottom three things i will be happy.
Hopefully ruckman will be #1 priority.

As I look towards season 2004...

I think the midfield balance is just about right. I'm not sure that we need Stevens, but he certainly wouldn't hurt. The inclusion of Stevens would almost certainly mean the end of O'Bree and/or Scotland at Collingwood.

The backline is rock solid at best, but as we saw on Saturday, it is vulnerable without the floating 3rd man at every contest.

I think we need another target up forward. Taz leads so hard up onto the flanks, and does a great job at it, it would be great to have a quality leading forward in the goal square. Nathan Brown would be a perfect fit for this role.

We have a good crop of young ruckmen coming through the ranks, which is why Mick has tried to make do with what we currently have - this has been widely identified as our key weakness.

Why the doom and gloom.
We played exytremely poorly and were beaten by a far far better team. A team that will go down in history as one of the greatest ever. They would have killed any other team a lot worse than they did to us.

As to what we need
We have Tom Davidson @ 193cm will go straight in the seniors as a tall long kicking high marking forward.
We have tarks who is our other gun midfielder.
We did not have Rocca in the GF
We have an abundance of talls coming through ie Cloke, Richards, Walker.
We have a hard running backman ir David King who is on the verge of senior selection.
We have $750,000 to recruit two top line footballers (according to Eddie yesterday).

We will be playing finals football for the next 10 years.

All the ****ers that come on here and bag us would love to be in our position. - that is why they bag us.

Here endith the lessen

On Didak. He CANNOT, read CANNOT, be traded this year. The AFl have brought in a rule, where a player cannot be traded in the first year of a new contract.

Well that is good then, that is very good inded. But where is eddie going to pull the extra 750K to recruit form?

There will be a couple of delistings, a couple of retirements and a couple of trades. There will be enough room. Particularly with Buckley going onto the Vets List.

ok. 2 top line players. i say brown will be one of em, i think eddie can really pull him to collingwood. who's gonna be the other? or, if brown won't be there, who'll be the first? basically, who do you guys reckon will be the 2 "top line" players collingwood will land, not who'll they'll try for, who'll they will actually get? again, i personally think brown is one. thoughts?

I think that we'll probably try to get Brown and Stevens. Both are top footballers and both seem to want to be at the Pies next year.

I've been saying we probably need an established ruckman, but I don't think there are any available this year. Perhaps we need to put Walker in to back up Fraser (along with Rocca) and let him develop naturally, like we did with Fraser. Fraser has proven that in his last half of a year, that it worked for him, I think we need to do the same with Walker. And maybe C.Cloke as well.

I actually read on the RIchmond board of an interview with Greg Miller, where he stated that the AFL haven't actually brought that rule in yet, but will be bringing it in next year.

Second-hand news, so I can't give you my guarantee that it's true. If it is, though, it could make for an interesting trading period.

BTW, what would you offer for Nathan Brown, keeping with David Smorgon's publicised comment of wanting a top line player for Brown?

i'm not sure if we will give out a really good player for brown, icould see say kinear, betheras/davis and our 1st pick but i don't think the bullies would want that so i see it going 3-way. who the 3rd club is, i dunno

Very good point but Smorgan today said that no club will be able to get Brown for Trailor park trash. So who would you be willing to give up for him? I think that we should try to get either Brown or Stevens preferably Brown but will be a herder trade to comprimise on. and with the remaining $$$ try to pinch a tall strong ruckman like Keating/Cox/Brogan or Charman like that because if we get Brown or Stevens from what i've heard around Scotland will leave, meaning our midfield will be extremely strong for next year. I think it already is. I feel for Scotty, i love the guy but on the other hand don't blame him for leaving as he is a very good player gathering 15 to 20 disposals each week playing 3 Quarters of the game. HE will be in the first 15 selected in most sides in the AFL. You watch, we'll trade him and someone else for Stevens,. Stevens gets injured or does ****, and Scotyt will star...

Because Scotty is a star!

Tom Davidson will be the third marking option up forward.
Guy Richards will be the back up to josh and in years to come they will become the number 1 ruck duo in the AFL.
Fair chance to pick up Stevens and Brown. Don't be surprised if Ryan Lonie isn't at pie land next year.
Also I wouldn't mind having Tim Notting in the team. He's a quality player who is lacking opportunity at Brisbane. However I doubt we will get Steven, Brown and Notting. 2 of the three would be good.
Finnally if Ben Kinnear is at Collingwood next year serious questions need to be asked about the sanity of the match committee and coach staff. This guy is a useless footballer with no heart and he showed that on saturday. Hopefully some club is stupid enough to take him.
Don't worry pie fans we have a young list with some great untried talent still to come( Davidson, Richard, King, Shaw x2 and Cloke x2) Our turn will come just a matter of time.

everyone is saying "tom davidson will slot straight into the 1st 22" "tom davidson will be our 3rd option". is this guy that good? he hasn't played a senior game yet (im 99% sure) had a bung knee for the entirity of the season, is he that good that next year he will just be a immediate regular in our side. i haven't seen him play ever but going by what iv'e read in papers and on this board, a few more kilos and he's gonna be a star. is this right?

I believe he was on the verge of selection had he not suffered from a knee injury, MM was gonna get him to replace Nick Davis
No doubt he is a good player. only time will tell whether he fits into the team, but i am pretty sure he will

There are big wraps on Davidson . He was on the verge of senior selection until he did his knee . I think he might have played a game or two in the wizard cup but i think we need to bring him into the side as soon as he is 100% .

Davidson played his first year at Willi and was very good. He is a good mark and a long kick.
He would have played seniors this year if he had not done his A/C in his knee. He started training again in August.
Everyone at Collingwood has huge wraps on him.
He will be playing 1's next year.
He can play CHF/CHB or forward flank.

I think he will play CHB for the first half of the year (running in straight lines) until his knee is truely match fit, then he will move forward.
This kid is very good. Taken 27 in a very strong draft.

Haven't seen the guy play but heard Balmie rate him as a better over head mark then Tarrant.
