Top 10
1) 1998 – The Bulldogs spent 15 weeks heading the top of the table, with seven weeks in second position. For the whole of the home and away season, the Bulldogs never fell out of the top 2. We started the season very impressively with a 10-2 record. (16-8) 115%.
2) 1953 – Finished the Home and away season with a 13-5 record, with our best ever percentage of 136.5. This year was our first ever finals win, and we could’ve easily been worthy flag winners. (14-6) 131%.
3) 1992 – Finished the home and away season with a 16-6 record, and had a percentage just under 130 for the home and away season. However, two bad losses in the finals saw this year fall in 3rd. (17-8) 120%.
4) 1985 – Finished the home and away season with a 16-6 record, and had a percentage of 121 at the conclusion of the regular season. Never in the mix to challenge Essendon, but we still received individual awards for the Coleman and Brownlow Medal. (17-8) 115%.
5) 1938 – Finished the home and away season with a 13-5 record, and had a percentage of 125. We were four points away from the minor premiership. (13-6) 120%.
6) 1999 – Finished the home and away season with a 15-6-1 record. The flag could’ve gone to any team in the top 4 that year, as it was even between the awesome foursome. We only lost 2 of our last 15 games for the season, which were both by less than a kick. We could’ve easily finished on top that season. (15-8-1) 114%.
7) 1954 – In our premiership season we finished the home and away season in 2nd place, with a rather poor record of 11-6-1. We had a healthy percentage of 130, which is a rather good percentage for that home and away record. Two comfortable finals victories didn’t affect this ranking either. (13-6-1) 133%.
8)1955 – Amazingly, this season the Bulldogs never made the finals, but managed to end the home and away season with a better record than in our premiership season of 1954. Our highest ranking for a non-finals year. (12-6) 131%.
9) 1942 – Due to the war, the Bulldogs had two byes this year. However, we still managed a strong 10-4 record, with a healthy percentage of 126. Bad kicking in the semi final blew our chances of a premiership. (10-5) 126%.
10) 1946 – Our best ever start to a year. We opened with a 9-0 record, but a bad finish to the year really cost us a top two-spot and a higher ranking. We only managed four wins from our last 11 games (including one final) (13-7) 116%.
