This club at the moment needs to recruit experienced football heads to help steer the club in the right direction.
If the Brown Trade goes ahead we might have 3 draft choices available to us in the top 6,we cannot let a complete group of inexperienced football staff along with Clayton make these choices
Now is the time to recruit an Eade or O Donnell to this club not only does it bring a fresh approach to the club it brings experience which we surely missed this year and helps Rohde.
Im not gunning for Rohdes job I just think if we find out he is a dud by round seven next year (just example) he goes "so what" if he mucks up a great opportunity for this club to make great headways and not draft quality youngsters than that could be
a whole different matter.
I’m sure an Eade or O donnell would love the opportunity to take a team of youngsters and show them the way

I understand that Gary O'Donnell has knocked back a couple of tentative approaches with a firm "thanks but no thanks".
Think your about 3 weeks to late. The club said they were looking for another assistant coach?
Why does it have to be Eade? Proven failure and hardly a fresh approach.
Or O'Donnell? Known that he doesn't want to come here and already rumoured to be going to Geelong.

Apparently Buddha Hocking is in the mix for a spot as an assistant coach with us next year. Would love him to instill a bit of toughness into the squad.

If I had a choice between a cafe latte society (hey Footscrays close to Yarraville) and a bunch of Sling Blades I Know which one I would choose.
Please do not let Peter Rohde make this choice as well it must be the Board not just another inexperienced ex player

Where was your valuable input when the actual Hocking thread first appeared?
So according to your logic John Kennedy and Allan Jeans were dud coaches because he never experienced a premiership as players.

Look at the culture this two players come from and the culture Gary Hocking come from
By the way Ching look below of recent premierships
2003,2002,2001,2000,1999,1998,1997,1996,1995,1994,
1993.1992
Do you sums and tell me which year the side that won the flag wasnt coached by a premiership player
So Libba's got no chance?
Frawley, Thomas, Rohdes, Williams, Connelly, Roos, Neale Daniher as well?
Maybe we should go for Royce Hart again Or Judge, Bucknarna, Knights or Tony Shaw as they all played in a premiership?
It may be coincidence and a trend but its definetely not the rule.
Please explain why some dud players make good coaches and some great players make dud coaches?

Or better still just say Tim Watson (and Don Scott's SANFL venture)

Do your sums again and tell me when one of these coaches will win a flag
Playing in a premiership does not make a coach but if I had a choice between an assistant coach who had played in a flag and one from a club that has a complete Waco culture I know which one I would choose
Ching I am not completely against Hocking he would probably make a great midfield coach, what I’m talking about is a mentor someone that has experienced winning a flag in a club that has a winning culture over a long period of time

Malcom Blight twice premiership player, twice premiership coach even couldnt get that side going
How did Tim watson have a chance

Kennedy and Jeans created successful cultures.
I don't believe that playing in a premiership is a necessary prerequisite for being a premiership coach. Other attributes are more important.
I'm not sure Rohde is the right man for the job either based on 2003. But I sure as hell don't want an assistant like O'Donnell who isn't interested. Why keep advocating the chasing of someone who has no interest? Get someone who desperately wants to be a success.

If your all for giving coaches a chance then how about starting with Rohde ?
Roos did well this year in his first. Daniher took a soft Melb to a GF?
No telling yet what they will achieve.
Alec Ferguson never won an English Premiership as a player!
Ex Milan world club winning coach Aerigo Sacchi never even played top flight soccer!
Maybe the Saints listened too much to some of the fans and sacked Blight before he had a chance?

1996 and 1999 Premierships were coached by Denis Pagan who is not a Premiership player

I wasn't sure on that one . He didn't play in 75 then.
Choco Royal is desperate to come back to Footscray but can't get a look in. Forget Eade, don't think he'd be chuffed to be appointed Rohde's assistant anyway. O'Donnell doesn't want to come, get it?
Anyway, let's get some big bodies into the team first. Seeing Brisbane and hearing Walls saying "They are all so big" made me realise that all the best coaches in the world couldn't do much more with our line-up as it is. When we have similar manpower to Michael, Keating, Lynch, Johnson, Charman, Pike, Leppitsch, J.Brown and even the "smaller" Voss, Akermanis, Hart, we might be able to put up a serious challenge.

No. He played in the 1974 losing Grand Final team but not the winning 1975 team
