Brief mention in the Hun today that Peter Rhode has met with Jade Rawlings. Doesn't say anything else. Interesting times ahead!

Hope this is the start of some proactive trading by us now that we know Brown is leaving and we have some cap to play with.

We would be a better _team_ with Rawlings than Brown.

Smorgo has stated on sport 927 today that he wants a 20-25yo established player, forget about Ricko or Bowden they do not fit the criteria!

I have a sneaking suspicion we will get Rawlings;)
Totally agree with stefoid, Rawlings would more than compensate for Brown!

Barring any further developments in available players Rawlings should definetly be our number 1 target. He suits us as a forward because not only is he an exceptional pack marker but he can cover a bit of ground aswell.

Someone please enlighten me on the Rawlings situation.
Can't be as bad as Brown and his money talk but is he trying to screw the Hawks?
Not saying we shouldn't go for him but I'm worried about replacing one money hungry fool for another.

You are right ching. Rawlings wasnt much of a player, but Hawthorn stuck by him. We persevered, and now for no apparent reason other than money, he is going to go.

Some players have no clue. Rawlings has f*cked us around to the put where most Hawks want him gone.

I suppose the theory goes like this:

Bandy isn't much of a CHF, Rawlings has shown that he can be a good second tier CHF (not up with Tredrea or J Brown). Rawlings gets the best defender and acquits himself well, Bandy, Darcy or Croft get lesser defenders. Any mix of these provide good marking targets or bring the ball to ground for Johnson, Guido etc.

Compare with no Rawlings, Bandy as an ineffective CHF and N Brown the main target. Any other talls probably ineffective agianst reasonable defenders.

Add in the flexibility of switching Rawlings and Grant between CHF & CHB.

Throw in a ruckman to relieve Darcy and we have a much more potent forward line.

Good theory

In my eyes Rawlings still isn't adequate for Browny still, its a very complex situation where so many issues come into play.. other clubs etc

Rawlings & a first round pick may swing my thoughts, they'd have pick 8-10 or something wouldn't they?

Theres no way.

Rawlings is a decent KPP at either end of the ground, and can take some contested grabs.

Id say he was in the top 10 tall forwards in the comp, Brown isnt in the top 10 midfiedlers in the comp (yet)

If we were to get Rawlings, and a backup ruck for Darcey (so he could play forward at times), we would have a forward line to really stretch the opposition, where Bandy and Bowden would only get the 2nd and third rate tall defenders they derserve.

Brown is the BEST Small forward in the league, and we lost him

We deserve more then just a typical KPP player that can do typical KPP roles, Rawlings simply "isn't good enough"

Smorgo is driving a hard bargain, thats why I suggested a first rounder & Rawlings would be more realistic for the dogs to agree

Brown is in the top 3 small forwards, yes, but how important is a small forward to the team structure?

OK, let me rephrase that, how important is a small forward to a PROPER team structure (not like the way we played this year and under wallace)? Nowhere near as important as having decent key forwards!

Thats the buyer side of the equation, they wont overpay for Brown,

From our side, we arent strapped for quality small forwards. Johno is right up there with any of them on a lead, and I reckon this kid Faulkner might give the position a fair shake before he is ready to move to the midfield. Alves and Garlo can also play that role.

So from our point of view, we would be stupid to pass up on probably the only decent key forward likely to be on offer this year.

With a fit Rocca available, Brown in their forward line would have seen the Pies take the flag.

They'd be desperate to get him now.

Dont know what game you were watching, but they certainly would have got closer.
