hey guys

really like the sound of both of these kids, real guns, what would you think of the following trade from geelong for one of omeara or stringer

geelongs after first round compo pick to GWS for one of the mentioned

this pick can be used directly after your first national draft pick, so this will almost guarantee that you recieve draft pick 1 and 2 in next seasons AFL draft which is a very strong one

it is a basic swap of draft pick 2 in 2012 for one of the mentioned, i cant see you getting much more value then that

GWS has said they're looking for players rather than picks.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the after first round compo pick remains immediately after the club that earnt the compo pick, regardless if it was traded. For example, if Geelong finish 4th next season, then their first round pick will be the number 15 pick, and their compo pick would be number 16. If they trade the pick, beit this year or next, it would still be number 16.........

Please, correct me if I am wrong......??

Nope your 100% right.

doesnt say this anywhere on the AFL website explaining the compensation picks, all it says is the "club" who posseses it, it nowhere says it is unable to be traded to another club or that currency of that pick would stay the same, i am sure if this was official it would have been covered in the rules

unless you can find something which suggests otherwise i doubt that it would be after geelongs if traded, would therefor become draft pick 2 for GWS

Apparently Emma Quayle has said that it would work like other people are suggesting, wish it did work the way you think though, it'd mean the 2 1st round Scully compo picks would be worth a mint.

Unless Geelong are throwing up Joel Selwood, they won't be getting anywhere near Jaeger O'Meara.

THe Mini draft is only to be used for trading established players, draft Picks can't be offered, at least that's my understanding of it since reading the TaCs.

would be just as happy with stringer, depends on where we finish at the end of the year, if we dont win the flag, and if we wanted one of jaegger or stringer badly enough we would be in a better position then any others to get him, got the established players to throw in that they want plus 2 first round picks to put on the table, depends on whether we win the premiership or not thought

Incorrect, draft picks can be traded for them. GWS have stated that they'd prefer established players, but I don't think that's a hard and fast rule if the best offers are otherwise.

does anyone have any confirmed source about the trading of the after first round compensationary pick? if it remains after the initial clubs first round or it can be used after the club who owns it first round

if it can be traded and used after GWS first pick, it would be of a huge benefit to them, they can then recieve pick 1 and 2 in next years strong draft, they would trade omeara or stringer for that deal in a heartbeat to geelong

if anyone knows for sure which way it is, please post a source so i can have a read.

Try the Drafting board. Some of them might be more across the rules. I thought it swapped to the new club's, but I haven't seen a quote either way despite checking the AFLPA website.

Yeah i'm not 100% sure, i got this off the AFL website.

7. Incentive to other clubs trading with GWS Giants in the 2011 and 2012 post-season:
GWS Giants to be given access to four 17-year-olds born in the January to April 1994 window, with all players to be traded to other clubs. Selections will be allocated to GWS Giants so the club can trade for established players, but the club will not have access to these 17-year-olds. If the four trades are not completed in the 2011 post-season, the balance of up to four trades may be used in the 2012 trading period.

The most explicit statement I found was on the Kangaroos' website, but it's an official AFL site so it's a good source to my mind:

one of the concessions granted to GWS allows for players whose birthdays fall between January 1 and April 30, 1994, to be claimed by a club with one of four special picks the Giants will trade away for draft picks, experienced players or both over the next two years.

In an article by Emma Quayle, who generally knows her stuff and the rules:

The Demons and Bombers could officially secure the highly rated father-son pair at the end of this season - saving their first-round choices at the 2012 draft - by trading picks and/or players to GWS in exchange for the right to list them as 17-year-olds.

Basically the intention is for established players, but there is no rule saying it can only be for established players.

Yeah looks like i was wrong then, guess it's up to WS who and what they trade for, if Sheeds has anything to do with deciding the Pies need not bother making a bid, hates us with a passion rarely seen!!.

Sheeds has been at arms length from everything I've heard out of the club. It's Graeme Allen (ugh based off the mess he left at the Lions) and Silvagni.
