hey guys its taken me a few days of hard drinkin to start to get over the humiliation, and i see in the australian there are strong rumours going around that pies are looking very seriously at stevens and brown
i wonder, who would be th emost beneficial?
for stevens, he would take a fair amount of pressure of our core midfielders, ie bucks, lica, burns...but i also wonder could he play up forward? offer another target that can also carry it thru the midfield? even down back i think he could be well used
brown would be a gamble. he would have to really show the team that he is ready to really step up in a team that can help him get to some finals. it would be good to have him up forward to absorb some of the focus of tarrant and rocca
it will be interesting to see and i hope, i pray that the pies can come out next year and really really show that the 2nd GF loss will be our last.

My opinion is that Brown would be a better option, purely for his foward capabilities. He can be swung into the midfield if things go pear shaped...but jeez he gets a lot of ball in the forward line. A perfect foil for Taz, with Pebs still there for the contested grab.
Stevens to me is a little like Woey, brilliant in patches, but suffers badly when heavily tagged and he isnt quick. When Port played the pies, I watched Lokan go past Stevens like he was standing still. I know Lokan is fast, but it was quite amazing to watch. We have depth in the midfield, with up and comers as well (read Mcgough, Shackleton). I just dont think we need Stevens as much as Brown would be great for our setup.
I would love both of them.
Brown, would take tremendous pressure off our forward line. We really need another killer player, i.e. Brown, down in the forward line. IMO, we have to go all out to try and get him.
Stevens would add to an already good midfield. He is a class player, and MM would turn him into the type of player Collingwood need.
I want both of them.

We need Brown more than Stevens. Stevens is just a midfielder. We have enough of them. Brown is a foward target that would fit in very nicely. The opposition won't have a tall back to play on him because they'll have to worry about Tarrant, Rocca, Fraser and possibly Davidson. Brown can be a target with a lesser oppnent and will kick many goals for us.

yep add me to the list that prefer brown over stevens. stevens is a great player dont get me wrong but i dont think he would be an ideal fit for collingwood. our midfield group is too strong and with the addition of stevens, it would be too top-heavy. i think an essondon or carlton would benefit more from his services. if we pick him up, thats good in a way because i believe that with like brown, we will be giving up someone of value like a didak so the midfield wont be 'top heavy' but i think if we could only have one, i'll take brown.
brown if he could hold the footy normally in his hands and kick straight would have strongly challenged lloyd to the johny coleman. collingwood needs another proven option around the forward line. this year's grannie proved that. what if we lost both rocca and taz. we can't just hope that cam cloke and tommo davidson can become a suitable 3rd option. i think that with a good pre-season, and a new lease of life with the pies could give browny the best years of his career.

It depends what the club is looking for.
Both players have characteristics which can be assets if put in our 22.
Stevens could use his endurance to become a link man/ball carrier.
Brown could use his 'impact abilities' to be a pinch hitting midfielder' who is mainly a forward.
Stevens is 23 and Brown is 25.
If it were my choice, I would choose Brown personally because he is a match winner and we are light on them depite the age disadvantage.
(long time to go till trade week however).

Brown over Stevens for me
We already have plenty of wingers Woey, Williams, Lockyer. maybe even Lokan & Shaw. Johnson will also probably move up to the wing in the future. IMO We also have enough midfielders
MM might be too reliant on our defence, and we probably lose when it fails to shut down opponents (read last Saturday). Brown will bring another dimension to the forward line, and we will have the firepower to kick winning scores week in week out together with Didak, Tazza, Pebbles, Davidson
Eddie says we have enough room in the S/C for two top line players (3AW Sunday) why not go after both of them?

I'd say Brown because he has that extra dimension of being able to go forward and kick 50 odd goals a year as proven last year. HE can also play in the midfield. I tell you what though I think that they will get either Stevens or Brown and then try to get a good hard at it, tough, crash.bang style ruckman who is not like Fraser who tries to tap the ball onto a midfielders chest but simply belts the ball forward like Keating. We need a tall ruckman, ready made and strong.

The real question is with the Buldogs saying that they will not trade Brown for Trailor park trash, who will we trade? It would have to be like some one as good as Rocca or Tarrant not that will ever happen, but lets be realistic if we want Brown then we have to comprimise, I think we should set our prioraties, should we give up a great player of collingwood to get Brown ( maybe some one wants to leave we don't know) or do we simply try to get Stevens of Port who won't expect as much for him has he said that he will go in the draft if a deal can't be found. Port will also take say one or two second string players like Scotland.

Before anyone here even mentions it: No, Cloke is not enough.
Don't even think about Molloy (we couldn't afford the Four'n'Twenty bill) or Davis.

Are Collingwood looking for the premiership that they are so close to or are they looking further into the future?
Coz Stevens and Brown and Midfield/Forward types that will indeed fix our problem for when Bucks retires but what the Pies need to win that premiership is a Ruckman/Forward.
Any chance of snaring Loats/Street/Cox. Even if we pick up a ruckman that is not renowned for kicking goals, we just need someone to relieve Josh.
We can't wait another 3 years for Tex, Crow, Richards, Cloke and co to develop when we are so close winning it all.
I say we go hell for leather after a ruckman who can give Josh a breather every now and then, so they can rotate in the forward line and stretch most defences to take some pressure off Taz.

I'd say picking up Stevens would be good to add a bit more to our midfield. I also agree if there's a ruckman available then to go after them and pick them up too.
Brown, I'm not so sure on. He's good, but he's going to be asking about $500,000-$600,000. Richmond are obviously willing to pay somewhere around that judging by their delistings to get him. I'm not sure if we'd be willing to pay that much for him, as well as getting rid of good players for him.
As for trades, Molloy, Betheras, McGough, Lonie and Scotland are all names being thrown around as possible trade bate. Also Kinnear has been suggested. I'd say for Stevens and Brown we'd have to give up two plus draft picks if we went after either of them.
Rawlings. Then Brown. Then Stevens.
