OK assuming we get it right and get the best outcome, whats the best we can hope to get for Nathan Brown? I notice on the trades board Carlton are said to be offering the #2 pick for Stevens/Guerra. Should we be offering Brown and another player(Gilbee?) for their #2 pick?

Can Carlton (or us or the Dees) trade a priority pick? Didn't think they could.

I think Freo traded their priority to get Trent Croad

Certainly not another player as well.

If pick 2 (Kane Tenace perhaps) ended up as good as Brown he will have done very well for himself indeed.

But he might not.

There is always a risk with any draft selection and as with anything, to take a risk there must be reward.

Brown is worth more than pick 2 on its own.

Priorities are able to be traded, but I don't think Carlton would want to trade theirs. Melbourne would be more likely to trade pick 5 or 20 than their PP.

Thats what I thought

Lets face it, Pagan is calling the shots down at Carlton, because hes the only thing Carlton has.... At seasons end, I remember Pagan stating he would NOT be trading the #2 Pick, as he'd only use it on the best next 10 year player for the club

Basically what i'm saying is, this hypothetical of Carlton trading its #2 pick, isn't gonna happen... Hes going to personally rebuild them, and I believe hes going to make Carlton the powerhouse they once were

I don't know how, but i'm sure he does

I still cant work out how the hell Carlton picks up a priority pick? I understand that they and the Dees didn`t win enough games, but they are still paying for their salary cap breaches aren`t they?

I would personally only go for dafts picks. We are down the bottom, lets make the most of it and draft future champions now. You just have to look and Bribane and see how all there early and priority Queensland picks paid off.

When a players leaves a club, that club is never ever compensated on a equal basis. Forget hacks, or one year wonders go for low draft picks.

No way

you can only hope that a player would turn out as good as Brown. There is no guarantee. So why would you throw in another player. That one player won't be as useful on our list as both. But if the 2 players concerned were Bruton and Picken then I think I would take it!

For Brown I would be wanting pick 2 + something or forget it.

Having had a look through the lists of the clubs Brown has been linked with. These are some trades I would be interested in.

Richmond

Ottens

Picks 6 and 22

Picks 6 and Bowden

Collingwood

Rocca (begrudgingly)

pick 18 + Didak

Essendon

Solomon + pick 13 or Laycock

Hawthorn

Rawlings

Thompson

+ a shuffling of picks to even up in either scenario

Geelong

Pick 7 + Bartel

Melbourne

pick 3 + Robertson or Green

I posted this on the main draft board. what do you think?

Doc: woods will not give up rocca.

pies to the woods seems probable, but what can the pies offer? They need a 3 way.

So:

pies: gain brown, offload pick #17 and Scottland

dees: gain pick #17 and scotland, loose pick 5 and Lamb

dogs: gain pick #5 and lamb

I picked the dees as the 3rd party because they have a need for a hard onballer and the available low pick.

Stuff the Pies then lets deal direct with Melb and try and get what I suggested, Pick 3 + Robertson or something to that effect.

Brown has to agree to go to the dees. Im going on the assumption that he wants to go to the pies.

This sounds better already. Even though he's injury-prone, would you take White?

Priority picks are not part of the 1st or 2nd round. Therefore they are allowed to have a PP.

If they were denied the PP this year, then the AFL would be liable under the Trade Practices act anyway for breach of freedom of trade.

first smorgo has said "play hard ball" and "no richo"
to me this means 2 things ottens or holland and pick 6

cart wont get him they will go for stevens and co and brown won't go there

pies have nothing for us a 3rd 4th team will come in to it could happen

and the hawks rawlings hay and pick 10 are the only things i'd want

here is a posible trade
holland and pick 6 to the dogs
brown to the tigers
pick 6/19/gilbee 1-2 to be offered for rawlings
