Given that Woewoedin has a brownlow under his belt, how would you rate these two players side by side?

I'm just trying to line up Stevens' trade value in terms of draft picks, given that Woewoedin was worth only a pick 16 last year in what was at the time speculated as a weak draft.

Honest opinions only please! ie.no kicking.

Stevens hands down, no doubt!!!!!

Stevens would be worth pick 3 or4!!

You're saying that Stevens is capable of winning a brownlow medal, and is a much better player than Woewoedin, is that right?

I spose we'll see what others think as the replies grow, but I can't split the pair of them to be truthful, in fact I'd even probably put Woewoedin slightly ahead of Stevens if anything.

What do Melbourne/Collingwood fans think?

At the time the Woewodin deal was considered an absolute steal, done for salary cap purposes.

Nick Stevens is three years younger than Shane was when he was traded last year, which should mean three more years of top level football left in him. Thats a significant difference.

Despite Shane's Brownlow in one excellent year, Nick still has a higher career average number of possessions. He's also coming off a season of being the #1 midfielder in a personal best season.

It would be fair to say that Nick would garner quite a bit more than pick #16 this year.

Your testing my patience..

I AM A MELBOURNE SUPPORTER!!

WOEWODIN IS NO WHERE NEAR STEVENS, NOT EVEN CLOSE AT ALL!!!

Yes, he had a good year once, but that was it, Stevens is a 25 touches a game player, Woewodin average's 17, Stevens is a classy play maker..

Obviously you have not alot of football intelligence!

yeah i agree stevens is better then woey

next year we will find out for sure once stevens plays a few games for collingwood, its hard to tell whether woey being in a better midfeild means he proforms better as he hasnt got as much presure and isnt tagged as much or it works in reverse because he doesnt get the opportunities and is the 3rd or 4th option to go to

Remember that Woewodin is 27, Stevens is 23.

Agre makes a big difference IMO.

Stevens is better than Woewodin, but Porthos rightly pointed out that pick 16 was cheap as chips.

Woewodin cops a lot of crap, but he's unfairly maligned. He has been given plenty of run with roles which people tend not to notice and his game is getting tougher, as per Malthouse standards.

If you're asking, is Stevens worth pick two, then I'd say no. Maybe if they threw in Guerra.

If you have pick two, you need a freak football player. Sure there is some gamble involved, but you should be able to identify the standouts.

Stevens is an excellent footy player all round, but with no discernable standout attributes.

I'd rather have a standout kid. Inside ball-winning midfileder with outstanding pace would be my choice, and I think you know who I'm talking about.

Shane Woewodian in 2000 form would **** a hole in Nick Stevens. But to this current date i'd still rather Shane then Nick but just by abit. Nick still needs to improve abit, where Shane is already a solid player. Sometimes people question Woewodians skill but they shouldnt.

Stevens easily

he racked up about 24 possessions game this season

What did Woey average? maybe 18-19?

Not to mention he played 3 pathetic finals games

Personally I think Woewodin should be playing where he started his football, on the HBF.

He is ok as a run-with player, but he is not really a mid-fielder...besides that one good year.

So if a side is after a true mid-fielder, then Stevens, if they are after a re-bounding HBF who maybe able to tag at times - Woewodin.

Woewoeful is the worst brownlow medallist i've seen. Take away that award and he's just an average footballer, who has the good game every now and then. Stevens is one of the better outside midfielders in the league. No contest.

I'd agree with Superstar that Woewodin is the worst brownlow medallist ever (didn't win the Range Rovers B&F or make the all-australian side)
It's a joke really when great players like Leigh Matthews, John Nicholls and Wayne Carey haven't won one.

Stephens is a lot better. Woey's big problem is his lack of pace. Otherwise they are quite similar, but when you are an outside runner pace means a lot.

As for Woey on the half back flank, too slow these days.

these guys are both cup-cakes, & collingwood would be crazy to take stevens when they already have so many cup-cakes around the club.

(i predict stevens will end up at either bulldogs or carlton, eitherway, contributing to trades resulting in cooney being at port next year.)

1st round pick in the 6-10 range

or

2 mid/late 1st round picks which is what they are asking for apparently

Shane won the Brownlow Medal because he was the best play in 2000. Carey, Matthews and such never won one because they either wasn't the best in the leauge at the time or was suspended. Don't get me wrong, Carey and Matthews were champions but either ****ed it up though Injurie or being Suspended.

Woewodin was not the best player at the time, Kouta was, he killed opponents all year. Being a Melbourne supporter i saw a lot of Woewodin and he had a great start to the year although lost it for about 6 rounds in the middle, then had a decent finish.

I was pleasantly surprised when he won it but definately thought Kouta was stiff.

Who gives a stuff about the Brownlow... these guys all have premiership medals... Woewodin can only hope Collingwood have another shot at a GF in the future.

Woewodin did deserve his Brownlow, he was mighty good and consistant in 2000 however he wont get another. He has got to be the most lazy bloody player ever gets about ten possesions in ten seconds and sometimes gets about ten possesions in 10 hours. He seems a hell of a lot more reliant on his left foot now. He is the most frustrating player great kick very much a confidence type player. Would really like stevens, consistant, what a kick, leader, people say his too much like Buckley well Bucks won a Brownlow and i would love him at the club.

Stevens is much better however does it really matter comparing if he comes to the pies, both will help each other and compliment each other. I pray Mick trades off Licuriapast it ages ago and not much more than a hack.

you guys are saying that stevens is no pick 2, i agree, but i will stand corrected but im pretty sure that hawthorn traded croad for freo's pick 1 (luke hodge). if that means the croad of '99 i think it was is worth a pick 1, surely, on that basis stevens is worth somewhere close. either stevens is actually worth carlton's pick #2 this year or croad wasn't worth his pick #1 in '99. which is it?

Stevens is the better footballer.
