UPDATE on the radio.

We'll be (3WBC) going to air at 12pm on Saturday and will broadcast the 2nd half of the VFL reserves Grand Final!

Of course that will be followed by the Port Melbourne v Bullants game.

Plus I got the MC duties again this year... so it just might be me handing the cup to Box Hill at TEAC Oval this Saturday!

Pity you can't crawl out of bed a bit earlier and broadcast the first half too! Probably be all over by half-time...

Thanks for the good work.

Pollard a chance to resume at FB if Stratts plays Friday?

I thought so but based on my limited understanding he is not qualified to play as too many senior and not enough DS games. I think they basically have last weeks team plus others who have played DS all year and maybe Grimmers could come in. Next in line would appear to be Carroll and Coopers maybe just looking at games played.

Other possiblity (leave aside my AFL affiliation for a moment) is that if Hawks lose Friday night can Ellis and the like play as they are out of the finals?

I guess we will have an idea in a few hours and may not know exactly until Saturday

How was Lisle guys?
According to the twitter feeds it sounds like he had a pretty good game playing the lose man in defence today.

It was a lovely warm morning that i had off so i took a wander down to TEAC Oval. The hawks jumped out to an early lead with Menegola looking prominent.

Throughout the first half Coburg looked to put scoreboard pressure on but Jordan Lisle made sure that didn't happen as his reading of the play and superior football knowledge left Coburg taking shots from the boundary line.

The 3rd quarter is where BHH kicked away. Coburg were winning the ruck contests and getting the clearances but the BHH defense, led by Lisle and Ben Kennedy, stood strong and kept Coburg to 0.1 up until stoppage time. Meanwhile BHH continued to put on the pressure up forward and made the most of their opportunities.

The final quarter started with a a couple of goals to both sides with the Coburg supporters trying to lift their side to a remarkable comeback. But it was to no avail as BHH kicked a couple of goals to put the game beyond doubt. From there it was show time where BHH piled on the goals.

Leigh Kitchin was a deserved winner of the BOG medal (forgot its name). He was in and under all day doing everything he could to give BH 1st possession. His leadership was also well on display. Constantly yelling at his teammates encouraging them or telling them to pull their head in if they were getting out of control.

There was one incident where after a goal to Aaron Johns he got in the face aggressively of the Coburg defender. At this pont it was about to boil over into fisticuffs, but Kitchen grabbed Johns and pulled him 5m away and started yelling at him to calm down and not do anything that'll get him in trouble or give away a free. Great leadership shown by the man. :thumbsu:

Was also good to see the BHH seniors cheering from behind the goal. Getting behind the boys and creating some noise to lift the ressies. :thumbsu: A reverse shout-out to Jarrad Boumann. You dress like a tool, son. :thumbsd:

Hawthorn boys:
Jordan Lisle - Played at FB or as a loose man in defense. His AFL experience was exceptional today. Strong hands, not scared to put his body in, and good decision making. One of the main reasons why Coburg couldn't score often. Went forward for a bit in the 3rd Q and this is when Coburg got a mini run of goals and the momentum.

Sam Menegola - This bloke has all the tools to be a good player. Led all day and was the most dangerous forward all game. Slower than a mach truck and that's what will stop him becoming elite. But has a great football brain with good skills. Finds targets that other reserves players wouldn't.

Jack Mahony - Good, solid battler. Well built young lad who has a lot of potential. Should progress into the seniors next year as his skills develop. Didn't have a heap of the ball, but his body pressure and his ability to create perceived pressure was worth noting.

Xavier Ellis - Didn't play.

If by 'seniors' you mean Hawthorn, no he won't. Still a long way off AFL standard but you would think he'd be a monty to be in the BH seniors by the end of next yr.

Before 'Ordi' comes in to give his most valuable report perhaps I should congratulate Josh Ralph for 'losing 10 kilos' in the past week ;):).

Congratulations to the Development Team for doing a 3peater

Congratulations to the Dev Team, a fitting result for a great year.

The last quarter was the best way to win a Grand Final. The victory became obvious early enough to provide time to soak up the occasion. Hoges at his entertaining best.

Agree that "the fat kid" deserves a mention, had plenty of third qtr highlights when the BH was kicking ahead. Ralph really lifted, took an absolute screamer over the pack, kicked a long goal and was dancing around players like a zippy midfielder.

Great stuff if true. Lisle i don't think had played a game for the 2nds all season and was only playing under instruction from Hawthorn to keep him match fit and ready for a potential (although doubtful) call up to the Hawthorn side. :thumbsu:

Lisle was near BOG imo. The way he crashed the packs, stopping the leading targets as well as reading the play well and forcing the opposition wide due to covering the leading space was the main reason Coburg were 2.7 at one point and the reason Coburg could never get close to BH.

A pleasant enough morning, overcast with a mild blustery breeze blowing from slighty west of north across the ground pretty much in a dead straight line from the intersection of the D50 arc and the boundary on the left HBF to the intersection of the F50 arc and the boundary on the right HFF when kicking to the Williamstown Road end.

The wind increased its intensity in several descret steps as the game progressed. This isometric wind (having equal magnitude force vectors both down and across the ground) caused the Coburg players considerable difficulty when kicking to the Williamstown Road end.

The ground was slightly damp but not greasy from the overnight dew point and was slightly soft underfoot. Firm for a solid grip but with enough impact absorption to run comfortably all day. In short fairly ideal footy conditions for the modern running game.

Got to the ground about five minutes after the start and stoppped to muse upon thet rich and colourful criminal history of the Borough. Oh for the good old days in which the local inhabitants kept the water police and the consorting squad overworked. And lets not forget that reboutable criminal organisation the Painters and Dockers Union, and the trouble they casued the Costigan Royal Commision. So much history; more than enough for another two more series of Underbelly if only Channel Nine weren't so offensively Sydneycentric, they certainly did Eddie McGuire in when he was CEO of Channel 9 just because he was from Melbourne.

So by the 7 minute mark BH was two goals up and was dominating play. The next 10 mintes saw the continuation of this dominance without any addition to the score and the Coburg sub-bogans where struggling even record a I50s. BH kicked another goal and the term ended with the score something like 3 2 20 to 0 2 2.

A bit of a whitewash really but I wondered if the boys had made enough use of their on field dominance. After all, it certainly looked like we should have been 5 or more goals in front. Anyway it a was great even performance by the team who applied relentless pressure to the opposition. The one percenters: smothers, tap ons, spoils were excellent along with the tackling pressure. Nobody really stood out as so many were good, although Murphy flying third up (the smallest player on the ground) gave me a laugh and Menegola did kick 2 goals so I am told.

The wind picked up before the start of the second which gave Coburg bigger wind advantage. Coburg started of with two quick goals and it was agame on. They dominated this next 15 to 20 minutes when the wind then kicked up another notch but they could not adjust to the crosswind and let many scoring opportunities slip. They ended up kicking 2.5 for the quarter. Lisle played as a loose man in defence filling the hole 30m out from goal. Given that he is too slow and ponderous to play on a real opponent this was certainly the best position for him. He played the role of not having an opponent to prefection taking timely marks and spoiling as required, well done! He certainly helped break up many a Coburg forward thrusts and contributed to their low score.

In the last ten minutes BH decided to start playing again, started to win some clearances and snagged two goals into the wind. Not that scoring into the wind was all that hard for a short, hard running, low kicking short passing side like BH as evidenced by the last quarter. Also goal kicking to that end wasn't that hard as that end was partially protected by the trees and the high walls of the adjacent factory site. the only really difficult zone on eth ground was the grandstand wing where the many players in the senior game (Port & Carlflog) kicked long along the wing anly to see their kicks pushed out of bounds. You'd think senior VFL players and coaches would be a bit sharper but no they weren't!

The scores at the main break were: BH 5.4 34 to Coburg 2.7 19. Quite a badly missed opportunity for Coburg but I though the game was still evenly poised in that either side could still win it.

The premiership quarter was an entertaining slug out with the wind at its bustery peak. Lisle started down forward as he got a a bit confused betwen forward and back, a common mistake amongst foot players. Perhaps his nickname should be Bullwinkle rather than the more generic moose but then youngsters would not know who Bullwinkle was now would they?

BH kicked a neat 6.1 to Coburgs 3.1. It was pretty hard in the clinches and Hoegel took a very heavy wack. When he got over the boundary line I and several others around me, thought he was going to chuck. A greatest quarter for BH where they asserted their dominance and showed their true class and skill against a determined opponent.

Going into the last quarter the scores were 11.5 to 5.8 a solid lead but not unassailable.

BH quickly kicked the first goal and it looked like it was "put down your glasses" but then Coburg replied with two quick goals. Was this to be the start of a miracle come back? Things were a bit tense for the next 5 minutes but then BH reasserted itself kicked a few goals and the game gradually became an exhibition. Around the 15 to 20 minute mark with BH scoring unanswered goals you could feel the tension slipping from teh ground and the Coburg players eased of knowing that they were beaten.

However, it was a great finals run from Coburg knocking over only sides to have beaten BH all season; Williamstown and Casey. So well done to them. If Lisle had not played then things would have been close at half time and the contest would have been a lot tighter so congratulations to them on a fine finals season as the sixth placed underdog.

Best Players according to the Sporting Pulse: Kitchen, Murphy (no relation), Northe, Sketcher, Johns, Ralphy no name.

Actual best players from those that know: Kitchen, Murphy, Northe, Lisle, Sketcher, Johns.

It was great team effort so all of the above were worthy of being named in the best and many other players could have made it in to the best as well like: Cust, 8 quarters Van Unen, Tobin & Allen, all played their part well.

Some other players of note:

Monkhorst (no relation): had a very poor day could not get into the game at any level.

Kennedy (no relation): had an fairish day that could have been a good day if he held on to a few more marks that fell from his hands.

Ralphy no name: I was told they found this kid begging outside a KFC and took him back to BH to give him a home. He has definately lost 10 kg over the last fortnight although how this was done is a mystery, I hope foul play was not employed! Anyway he had a solid outing in the ruck giving away inches in height to their #1 ruck and kicked a lovely running goal in the third. Did not appear to tire at the end of the game unlike last week (it must have been the weight loss).

Lisle: apart from not knowing the difference between back and forward, and it is hard at times, had a very good day although it felt a little like cheating having him play in the DS. He was not named in the press best six to give more encouragement to the kids whose team it is, a bit like the medal episode. A genuine third or fourth BOG.

Xavier Murphy: Apparently no relation to Xavier Ellis, even though the Xavier name is remarkably rare it is simply a coincidence to have two players with the same exceptionally rare name. Go figure!. At 178cm and 71 kg probably the smallest player out there for BH (or even on the ground) had one less disposal than Kitchen and 10 tackles. A real little terrier who I felt was a bit unlucky to be piped for BOG.

Mahony: solid game did not set a foot wrong. Hard at it, strong with clean dispoasal. A useful contribution like so many of eth BH boys. Well done.

Menegola: Is he related to Todd? a tiger fan asked, and I thought who TF is Todd? Anyway, three goals as a HF is a good effort as playing in that position can keep you out of the play for long periods. Starvation corner indeed. I thought he was better earlier in the game but he had a few disposals and contributed most of the day. However, anyone who thinks he'll be playing regular AFL footy next year knows SFA about footy and player development. He is at least a three to four year project, as are pretty much all young light kids and even some not so light ones cf. Wx.

Johns: Named in the best without racking up heaps of possession but contributed a lot around the ball, honest efforts, one percenters etc.

So many of the other players not covered also deserve an honourable mention. They all played well did their job and contributed to a great team victory. Great stuff.

Famous faces in the crowd:

The old bloke in that the statue is dedicated to and his misses. May have come along when he saw that one of players had his surname, perhaps a distance relo, one of cousin Flo's grandkids perhaps?

Brendan Bolton and the other bloke with the funny head keeping an eye on Lisle, or a least that would be their cover story! Or perhaps they are secret agents for the evil Pelcho, spying out players for the saints to pinch next year. Could Pecho be so emboldened after sucessfully ridding himself of his last obstacle to total control of St kilda by driving out Ross Lyon? Tune in for further updates.

No sign of the angry little bloke.

Damien Monkhorst our ruck coach was out there to lend encouragement. We are so lucky to have him a Hawthorn. A lovely bloke who is friendly, willing to chat, and knows his stuff.

Altough I suspect Ordo also knows this, X Murphy is T Murphy's younger brother. Agree with the nomination that he was a chance to have been honoured with BOG status.

Possibly at training this week, Ralph had to spend all him time on the HF flank (starvation corner) which could explain his loss in weight???????

What a win! What a great team! You got to tip your hat to them. Yes its VFL reserves but to win 3 premierships in a row is something special no matter what the level. It requires a lot of things to go right. The coaching staff, the support staff, the doctors and most improtantly the players. Led by the best player on the ground in Leigh Kitchen Box Hill tackled, harrassed and simply over powered a beaten but gallant Coburg side.

Ordo has provided a comprehensive report thanks ordo so i won't go into the details of the game suffice to sat I for one am a proud and passionate box hill supporter. Proud to have seen all three victories first hand. Some great young kids with plenty of heart and talent. This team has provided David Mirra and Lukey Andrews to the senior side. Others that have had a taste include Sam Cust, Tim Northe, Jayden Hoegal, Ben Kennedy, Ben Monkhorst, Josh Ralph, Michael Thompson and Jackson Sketcher.

I feel sorry for young Michael Thompson getting injured at the eve of the finals chin up mate maybe next year :thumbsu:.

My best players Kitchen, Ralph (shook his hand to tell him so after the game), Northe and Johns special mention to Robbie Allen put his body on the line numerous times especially in the first half took some great marks.
Great win absolutely stoked for the boys and i can't wait for next year.

It transpires that young Monkhorst (no relation) was playing under duress with a foot injury that prevented him from running or turning at anywhere near full pace. Hence his lesser contribution to the team's win. I should have picked that up as the young fellow has had a very solid season.
