Yep, it's a debacle.
We've gone from having one of the most promising key position players in the league, one that we have bred, nurtured, and encouraged when no-one else wanted .. to a situation, where the issue of ONE miserly year has ultimately proven to be our downfall.

And what do we have to show for it? Currently, nothing. No Nathan Brown. Nothing.

While people might think this compare to the Trent Croad situation in 2001 - quite frankly, I think this is worse. Rawlings was meant to be one of ours - Hawthorn bred - as illustrated by the fact that life membership was his next year.

But no, we've gone and blown it all away. With nothing to show for it.

I hope the trade period proves me wrong.

Didn't Hawthorn offer a two year deal with an option for a third to be considered after the first year? If so, basically the same thing as a three year deal only he would have to make sure he performed in the first year and he would be looked after. It seems to me that the contract was partially performance-based which is fair enough.

It also has to be remembered that one good season does not make a player (eg Croad) and that Rawlings has well documented knee problems so making it performance-based is probably a good idea.

Maybe there are some other issues that haven't come to light??

Hawthorn Football Club existed long before Jade Rawlings came along, and will thrive long after Jade Rawlings is gone. If he doesn't want Hawthorn then who needs him?
