I can't see Port Adelaide appointing a coach who never played for the Magpies.

Thats their problem - they need to move on. Think outside the square you live in!

If Knights gets the job, hopefully for their sake they'll learn from the Merv Keane saga at Unley and leave the bloke to do it his way, rather than interfere because he doesn't come from the Williams inner circle.

Yes, he did. And John Cahill came from South Adelaide. But they PLAYED for the Magpies.

Just on that point I made above, I preface my comments by saying I have always had tremendous respect for Port Adelaide over the years and admire what they have achieved as a football club.
Having said that, many Port fans over the years have always annoyed me over the years by carrying on about the success of Port Adelaide being due to nurturing their own and claiming "home grown" talent as their recipe for success.
The biggest names in Port Adelaide history since the war have been Fos Williams, Bob McLean, John Cahill, Russell Ebert, Mark Williams, and Greg Phillips.
Fos and Mark Williams were both recruited from West Adelaide, John Cahill from South Adelaide, Bob McLean from Norwood, Ebert from Waikerie , and Greg Phillips from Port Lincoln. Even premiership winning captain Russell Johnston was recruited from Collingwood, and 1000 goal full forward Tim Evans came from Geelong.
Not having a go at Port, they did well recruiting these people and more power to them. Just stating a few facts, that's all.
