Realistically..what do you lot think the crowd size will be?
I would think 26,000, I am also hoping for decent weather for once in a while!
35,000 would be nice. Apparently that's the latest estimate as heard on the radio - dunno which station.

Don't know the weather currently in Adelaide.
31,228 for good weather.
28,374 for dodgy weather.

That is unless the West Adelaide fans come out of the woodwork in huge numbers.

well your weather radar and forecast down there is all good for today. Few clouds, 17-18 degrees, northerly breeze, no rain in sight at this stage .....
I'll be plonked in front of the box watching it with a "six for ten bucks" deal on cans of Real McCoy :)
Any of youse got flags or banners I should look out for ? And where will you be located ?

Its a beautiful day here in Adelaide, 18 degrees and fine.
Should be a good crowd.
Got to wonder how many people might have gone if it wasnt a long weekend though.
Low crowds to beat
1935 - 26,496
2001 - 26,378
1930 - 23,609
1915 - 13,000
Other State League finals this year
WAFL - 17,000 @ Subiaco (played AFL prelim final weekend)
VFL - 11,000 @ Optus Oval (played AFL prelim final weekend)
As for long weekend, at least we all get Monday to recover (unlike other SANFL finals).
On a positive note a big bouquet to the "mainstream" media outlets who have given the SANFL GF some excellent coverge this week
The Advertiser / Sunday Mail in particular have got right behind the event with 3-4 pages on the match most days.
Even certain radio stations have given it fair air time.
ALAS most of this would be lost should the game be held during the AFL season.
My hope - 30,000 plus
My expectation - 27,000
32,000.... it's a great day outside... I'm off in about 15 minutes...
bye bye metallic park...

Thats almost the combined total crowd from the VFL & WAFL 2003 Grand Finals.

Not being a troll here but Westies traditionally don't have a big supporter base. The 1991 GF was the worst grand final attendance of the 90's until the 1999 GF and 1983 was the worst grand final attendance of the 80's.1961 was the lowest of the sixties, and the 1947 GF was the lowest between WW2 and the inception of the Crows.

Correct. They've never had a huge following. They're a bit like South, a smaller but die-hard group.
I was stunned at the support Westies had in 1983 as the crowd seemed to be pro-West, but it turned out to be more an anti-Sturt thing as all the neutral fans were backing Westies.. Sturt dominance of the league was still reasonably fresh in peoples memories.

Remember those pi$$y little paper flags that Westies were selling at the ground to try and get some colour into the crowd? Also I think it was also to make up for their "four flogger" cheer squad.:p

Comparing the crowd figures of the 2003 WAFL and SANFL grand finals isn't a very accurate method of judging the support for the two leagues.
Subiaco have an extremely small supporter base, the smallest of any WAFL club (the number of Westies supporters couldn't possibly be smaller ;)) and it was raining heavily on the day of this years WAFL grand final.
In the 2002 WAFL grand final, 31 382 suporters attended in fine weather.

Were they any worse than those faggy styrofoam boater hats being flogged by the Roosters in 1985? :p

Just shows you how loyal a lot of Port fans really are... The redleg voice was in full force that day, and we still lost :(
Also, how many were at last years SANFL Grand Final?

I thought they were given away, there were Sturt ones as well, I beleive I still have a couple at mum's place :)
I used to think that 40,000 was what you'd expect at the SANFL Grand Final, considering the Centrals/Port blockbusters of '95 and '96 attracted 46,000+ each. Nowadays it seems 30,000 would be a good turnout. I don't think we have the culture here of attending the GF as an event. Most fans wouldn't think of attending the GF if their team isn't in it. Look at the MCG on GF day: It's full of non-supporters who are there to sip champagne and enjoy 'the occasion'. I don't know what situation is worse: having a stadium half-full of supporters, or having a stadium full of non-supporters!

Good call U-DOG, I think the only neutral supporters who go now are true diehards, the type that post here and would be more than happy to go back to the 'good old days' pre Crows.
Before that, it was a given that there'd be a big contingent of neutral supporters.
I think some of West Adelaide's support from within the members' reserve was neutral crowd...

Yeah you're right. I'd probably prefer having a stadium full of die-hard supporters rather than the Crows supporters sipping their wine. Thats one thing that I give to the Power, they have a stadium full of die-hard supporters rather than the bloody show pony's. I honestly cant stand the Crows supporters, I like the Centrals supporters because they're vocal and passionate about the club. Its a shame that other SANFL teams dont have the support that we do at Centrals, although I think a lot of opposition supporters are jealous of our support.
If it was Centrals v Port on Sunday there DEFINITELY would've been over 40,000 (at least) people there. There's a strong, healthy rivalry between Centrals and Port.

Seeing it wasnt LIVE on TV that would boost the crowd greatly so I dont think you can compare it to the VFL GF which was live and out rated the Storm RL game on CH 9.

I suggest that on Sunday you would have experienced more die-hard supporters - in number and in percentage of crowd - than you would have experienced at a Port-Central Grand Final with 40,000. How many of those 40,000 would go to see the Magpies each week? Yet I'll wager that nearly all of the Bloods fans at the ground would have seen their mob play at least a few times during the year.
