I played a Colts carnival in Wollongong many years back. We played Newcastle and off 60 overs they hit 4-436. A bloke surname of Gherits?? absoultely smashed us, think he hit his 100 in about 15 overs. We finally got him for about 120 odd then a short Ram man impersonator, Phil Stanbridge (think thats his name) hit 130 in less time then Gherits.

They hit that many 6s that we lost 5 balls during the course of the innings.

It was a smashathon.

I have probably witnessed 3 amazing innings so far in my life.

They are (in chronological order):

1. In a Coca Cola Cup competition in Bendigo, Travis Birt smashed 130 and got run out on the first day of the competition, then in the next game, he was on about 90 and our coach decided that he should retire to give the other boys a hit. The message went out to Trav that he had about 8 overs (or until Tea) to get his 100. He ended up retiring at Tea for 160 odd. And, hit 30 in the last over before Tea.

2. In a club game for my side, we were 6 - 30 against one of the worst side in the league and after our captain and opening bowler put on about 200 for the 7th wicket, our other opener came in at 9 with about 5 overs to go and ended up making 53 not off 19 balls including 7 6's. We got 340 odd and won the game by an innings.

3. In a country game, we made about 200 and bowled the other side out for about 80, there were 15 overs left and we needed about 180 to get into the final, impossible right? Wrong. We got em with our captain, Ian Wrigglesworth getting 75 off 23 balls and another fella Geoff Wells getting 55 off 22 balls. Both of them just teed up and hit 6's like it was their last day on earth.

Honourable mention to the Boisdale-Briagolong Cricket Club, we bowled them out for 26 one day. That was a pretty good innings!!! Hahaha, it was even funnier cos it was a 40 over one dayer, we bowled them out in about 22 and were 1 - about 60 off 18 overs when we went to tea.

2 stand out for me.

1, We were top playing second chasing 220 when our opener made 219no. Smashed them everywhere. We made 4/400 odd.

2. Watching a GCL game West Gippy vs I can't remember. This guy made 130 odd and hit one of the biggest 6 I have seen. Through the goals at Pakenham ground. Huge.

Not often you see 100's in GCL, I will never be able to work out why. Are West Gippy still in the GCL?

Playing for Surfers Paradise, we had Palm Beach at 2 for 8 when this fat bastard strode to the crease...

He just swung wildly at the first ball and it narrowly missed off stump, we thought this guy wouldn't last long. Bad assumption.

He didn't miss another ball for about 3 hours as he belted his way to 240. :(

What made it worse was that it started raining after their innings so we didn't even get to bat! We just conceded the match I think as they finished up with about 420+.

No West Gippy changed regions about 2 years ago. We now play Ferntree Gully and Mornington. The GCL was great to watch. Some fantastic players.

Glenn Mcgrath is pretty spectactular to watch, love watching the Tailenders get runs.
But the Master is Micheal Bevan, just the way he handles the pressure. My favourite test one though is Gilchrists fastest 200 in Sth Africa a little while back. Also one was David hookes smacking 100 off 34 balls to beat the Vics back in the 80's.
The Australian cricket team has spoilt us Australian's since the mid 90's.

Ditto that, his 153 in Jamaica not far behind and somebody else said Steve Waughs 200 in Jamaica too.

Ricky Ponting, World Cup 2003.

One of the guys at my old club made 165* against a team when we were seriously on the ropes. That was a pretty special knock.

2 recent historical innings rank as the best I have seen which are Hayden v Zimbabwe and Steve Waugh in front of his home crowd (the hairs stood up on the back of my neck)

one of the greatest sporting moments for me

From local club cricket.
Our school's local first 11 in primary school that I was in. Our best batsmen came in at number 4. He hit 143 from 36 balls. Still a school record. Was hilarious to watch. Was just killing the ball.

International.
Adam Gilchrist's 204 from 213 balls against South Africa in South Africa at the start of 2002. Most brilliant innings I have ever seen. Brilliance. A delight to watch. The fact it was a quality opposition too helped my decision.

Playing Shane Warne cricket on the playstation, I got Damian Fleming 57 runs off 11 balls. 9 sixes, a 3 and then caught on the boundary

I shared a 60 odd run partnership with a bloke (on his way to 150*) and I scored 4, I was at the crease for about 4 overs. He was smashing everything, he leg glanced a ball for six.

Well done Zeke, that is something a tasmanian should be good at. I guess you don't watch much cricket considering Haydo smashed 380. better than 150*

So, I guess that you would say from that comment that everyone who has commented on this thread doesn't watch much cricket, as no one mentioned Lara's 375, which at the time was the highest score in Test Cricket. And, if you wanna take it one step further his 501 is an even higher score than Hayden's 380, so, that should be better. It says best INNINGS you have WITNESSED, not HIGHEST SCORE you are AWARE of.

Personally I think that Pontings dashing century in the world cup final was absolutely awsome and set up the game.

The innings that comes to mind for me was VVS Laxman's effort in smashing the Australian attack to all parts of the ground at the SCG a few seasons ago. I think he ended up getting about 170 odd.

Yeah, I remember that, it was when India were following on and he came in with India needing about 300 to make Australia bat again and he got 170 and Australia still won by an innings. He just teed up, I guess you can when you know that you are going to win/lose regardless of how many runs you make.
