Danny Craven (born 3 May 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL).

Craven, having played in the opening four fixtures of the 1989 VFL season, broke his leg in St Kilda's round five game against Essendon at Windy Hill. He not only missed the rest of the year but also didn't play a senior game in 1990. A rover, he returned in 1991 and averaged 20 disposals from his 18 appearances.

He left St Kilda at the end of the 1992 season and was taken at 78th in the Pre-Season Draft by the Brisbane Bears. In three seasons he put together 25 appearances, 15 of which came in 1994.

Danny Craven – “Chippa” played for St Kilda and theBrisbane Bears. Despite a number of horrific injuries he still managed to play 58games and kick 17 goals.

Remaining in Queensland after hisAFL career ended, Chippa coached West Brisbane to the 1996 QAFL premiership, in hisfirst season as a senior coach. He captained the Brisbane Lions reserves in 1998 andalso served as an assistant coach. In 2002, his second year as coach of Mount Gravatt, he steeredthe club to their maiden AFL Queensland State League premiership.

Danny Craven was drafted from the Wangaratta Football Club in the National Draft at pick #15 to St Kilda. He played 33 games for St Kilda before being picked up in the 1992 Pre Season Draft by Brisbane where he played a further 25 games for a total of 58.

Craven, enormously well-respected through Queensland football ranks, coached the State side in five games for four outstanding wins over the ACT, including two in Canberra, and a meritorious loss to a classy West Australian side at Carrara in 2005.

When the Doggies were playing the Saints at Princess Park one day Danny and Plugger were both on the bench. Plugger hadn't played for a while and the Saints fans were beside themselves waiting for him to make his appearance.

While this was happening Danny Craven was warming up by running up and down the boundary line waiting to come back on. Unbeknown to Danny, Plugger had ripped off his trackie top and was ready to run back onto the ground.

The crowd erupted. The noise was deafening. Danny assumed the adulation was for him and threw his arms in the air and carried on as if he had knocked out Cassius Clay. He came back to earth when he saw the Fatman run onto the ground.
