Michael Clarke and Nathan Hauritz, if he can get back to his old batting form, he's a better prospect for the all rounder spot in the one day side that Watson who seems better suited to the longer version of the game. And keep an eye out for Mark Cosgrove for the Redbacks this year, good player.

I have my doubts about White and Casson.

I think Hauritz will be the best of the spinners, but nothing particularly special.

Shane Watson for me...just needs to improve his batting a bit.

Hows his back injury coming along? Will he be fit for the one day series here in oz?

Clarke is the obvious one....but over the next few years there'll be a heap of spots open up in the Aussie team as some of the veterans retire. By time the next world cup rolls around, expect Waugh, Lehmann, McGrath, Warne, MacGill & Langer to be gone. Possibly Gilchrist (as a keeper/batsman).

From Victoria, Cameron White looks most likely to step up and take on an all rounder role. Plus the selectors are obsessed with leg spinners - so expect him to be fast tracked. Crosthwaite (Chuck Berry's current understudy) I reckon will be a fair chance to fill Gilchrist's WK spot in 3-5 years.

Biggest weakness in our young talent pool appears to be genuine quicks.

Watson, White and Hauritz will all end up playing international cricket probably, but, just being average at it. As far as big things internationally, I would think Marsh and Clarke both will be. Crosthwiate seems to have the goods with the gloves. I could see Hauritz and White sharing the number 1 spinner spot for the next 10 years with neither ever being quite good enough to demand it long term. Watson does seem to be better suited to 4 or 5 day cricket, rather than 1 day cricket and could end up being the all rounder that people so often write about being needed.

Batting wise, I hope the next generation of players are good, because of the current crop I can not see a lot being a big hit on the international scene. Guys like Hussey and Hodge are probably getting on a bit. I understand they are still young, but, when you consider that a few Australians are going to be dropping in the next 3 - 4 years, ie. Lehmann, Waugh, possibly Langer, they will already be in their 30's by then and that is probably not an ideal age to be starting an international career.

I know that Martyn and Lehmann started late on, but, they had been playing ODI's and both had been around the international scene for quite a while.

Xavier Doherty is a good prospect as well. Played well in the U-19 World Cup and played a few one dayers for Tasmania at the end of last year. On a whole the spinners are pretty average, good in a Lehmann sort of role in the one dayers, just dart them in and make it hard to score but none of them are huge prospects for the long variety of the game.

If only MacGill's career was starting out about now....

Batsman: Clarke
Spinner: White - white finger spinners are useless
Quickie: Bollinger - after Williams, Noffke have a go
Keeper: Ronchi - his batting's better than Crosthwaite

New guy made his Adelaide grade cricket debut today his name A.Flower or something. Made 160 of 170 something balls I'd expect him to soon be in the Redbacks line-up.

And thank god for that after the performance of the Redbacks in the CA cup last week playing basically their first team without Blewett and only against Victoria

you've got the obvious guys like Michael Clarke coming through.

Shaun Marsh is an outstanding talent, and Beau Casson could do wonders bowling the hardest craft there is.

Looking a little deeper, I love the look of Scott Brant, but he probably needs another yard of pace.

And even deeper, Aaron Bird from NSW is a fabolous quickie, and Mark Cosgrove has all the talent in the world.

And even deeper (altough now my knowledge is only limited to NSW), watch out for Dave Warner (left handed aggressive batsmen) and Moses Henriques (quickie). Both 16 years old and already playing first grade in Sydney.

Luke Ronchi - could have been the walk in keeper/batsman if Campbell left WA at the end of last summer.
