fullpointsfooty (http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/i-j.htm#Ernest%20Jenkins%20%28Fitzroy%20&%20Richmond%29)
Renowned as one of the finest followers in Victoria during this career, Ernest Jenkins was a stalwart both of strong Fitzroy sides and VFL representative combinations for much of the first decade of the fledgling league's existence.
Quick over the ground, strong in the air, and supremely courageous, he had all the attributes necessary to succeed in what, at the time, was arguably the toughest position on the field. He played 179 games in thirteen seasons with the Maroons, and was one of the best players afield in the winning grand finals of 1899 and 1905, as well as the losing affair of 1906 against Carlton.
He was club captain in 1906-7, and three years after his retirement as a player, in 1913, he returned to the VFL as non-playing coach of Richmond, leading the comparative league novices to 7th place on the ladder in a ten team competition.

100 players who made the "Lions" roar (http://books.google.com.au/books?id=zu305oUYP5kC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Fitzroy:+for+the+love+of+the+jumper+:+100+players+who+mad e+the+%22Lions%22+roar&source=bl&ots=sXAhDV3vlq&sig=LBAicrNi604tiQH2075cBZx68As&hl=en&ei=TPOpTeeIA5GsugOivJGYCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false)
Jenkins first played with Fitzroy in the VFA between 1894 and 1896. The Australian reported “Fitzroy felt most seriously the loss of Jenkins, who followed magnificently in previous matches, but whom business has called away to Queensland.’
This caused him to miss the game that sealed Fitzroy’s 1895 VFA premiership, which was the club’s first. Fitzroy was one of the eight clubs to break away from the VFA and for the VFL in 1897 and Jenkins was in Fitzroy’s first VFL team that beat Carlton by 33 points at Brunswick Street. Though he played in earlier games, he missed the 1898 grand final win over Essendon.
The following year he was a key player at the business end of the season. ‘Jenkins was the finest of a strong body of defenders, and his numerous brilliant dashes were rendered the more effective through the persistency with which he followed up his advantage,’ reported The Australian on the Maroon’s win in the 1899 sectional game against Collingwood.

Umpire's Association (http://www.aflua.com.au/player_umpires#jenkins)
Ernest Jenkins toiled for Fitzroy between the formation of the VFL and 1910. He played in the full back line in their losing Grand Final sides of 1900 and 1903 before being part of the flag-winning 1904-05 combinations on the half back flank. After captaining the 'Roys in 1906 and 1907 and retiring, he coached Richmond in 1913. Seven years later, he reappeared in league ranks as a goal umpire and waved the flags in 132 matches. His Grand Final success continued and he participated in a further 5 during his 8-year umpiring career.
