Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Boyd)

Brad Boyd (born 10 August 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy and the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League during the 1990s.

Boyd started his AFL career in 1992 with Fitzroy and played mainly as a ruck-rover, although he was also used as a half back flanker and at centre half forward. He was a best and fairest winniner in 1995, his first season as captain. He was also captain in 1996 before the club merged with the Brisbane Bears. Boyd thus has the distinction of being Fitzroy's last ever captain. In 1997 he joined the newly formed Brisbane Lions for their inaugural season. He was the club's first signing.

Brad Boyd played his first game for Fitzroy in 1992. He was appointed Captain at the age of 23 in 1995 after Paul Roos transferred to Sydney. Throughout these troubled times he carried most of the weight on his shoulders. He won the Best and Fairest in 1995 and was runner up in 1994 and 1996. He won Victorian Selection in 1994-95. He played 70 games.

He transferred to the Brisbane Lions for season 1997 but had a disastrous season with injury and played only 20 mins of football for the season. He returned late in the 1998 season and played 6 games for a career total of 77*. He showed that if injury free he would be a major force with the Lions. In 1999 he was still troubled by a back injury. He played only 8 games for a career total of 85 and retired at the start of 2000.

Fitzroyfc.com interview (http://www.fitzroyfc.com.au/mediaarticles/bradboydwherearetheynow.html)

"I was the first of eight players picked by the Brisbane Bears. But it was a disappointing venture for me. I played only 30 minutes of footy with the club in 1997 due to back and hamstring injuries and only another 14 during the next two years before I retired at 27.

Overall I missed 80 games through injury, which is a lot when you consider I played only 85 with Fitzroy and Brisbane during my career.

But I had my highs. I was Fitzroy captain at 22, won the club best and fairest in 1995 and represented Victoria in 1994 and 1995."

If you include his comeback with the Western Bulldogs, he is possibly the greatest player of all time.

I always thought Brad-Boyd was one name, y'know, like Terry-Thomas. Never, ever heard a commentator refer to him plainly as "Boyd".

Karmichael-Hunt is the new Brad-Boyd in that regard, btw.

Complete class. Coulda been anything. Reminded me of watching Barrie Robran when I was growing up in SA.

The most unluckiest player I've known - should have been a premiership player. Maybe even 4 in a row. Ahh - the fates.

Man of the week: Brad Boyd (Fitzroy) (http://handle.slv.vic.gov.au/10381/136070)
AFL Record 1994
Round 3, page 6

Fitzroy's 22 year-old Brad Boyd isn't a big name in football but he soon will be if he continues in the same vein as last week when he was a central figure if the demolition of last year's premiers Essendon. Boyd, who first showed promise in Collingwood's Under-19s but didn't reach senior status at Victoria Park, is a much-improved player. He put the writing on the wall that he would be a more prominent player this year with an excellent Foster's Cup match against Adelaide. Boyd has only a light frame but last week his ruck-roving successfully took him into the thick of play where he gained 23 kicks, took 7 marks, had 14 handballs and kicked three goals in a telling third term. This was Boyd's 16th senior match - and his best.
