Potential star who costs SFA vs almost superstar who costs $400K

Top ten pick easy....Stevens has been referred to as a superstar on-baller..dont think so. Poor finals record. Not one best and fairest. Has not been named as an all-australian. And will be 24 next year. Jason johnson had those covered by the time he was 22.

My man Ricky Dyson will be a better footballer than Nick Stevens. And we can get him at pick 13. If we get another first round pick then we can get an even better footballer. Two players with the potential to be better than stevens and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Was he really 22 marcuz? How old is he now?
I am slightly worried that Dyson won't be there at 13, hence my push for us to get a pick around 5-10.

I personally dont think Stevens would fit into our midfield. Assuming the loss of two key defenders, I think the Bombers would be smarter to hunt down Wirrapunda, in case Ramanauskas doesnt come up for next year.

I'd take the draft picks.

Sorry he was 23..best and fairest and all-aust in 2001. Yes after his performance at the draft camp he will be pushed up a few spots.

BTW i posted awhile back that i e-mailed essendon regarding dyson after i saw him play against the falcons. Looks like im not the only one. One of Adrian Dodoro's assistants emailed me on friday asking if i had been telling bomber supporters to e-mail the club demanding dyson be picked. I have done no such thing and replied back saying no i did not. Apparently they have over 100 different emails saying the club should pick this kid. Will be interesting to see what happens draft day

So if we get him and he's a dud it's all your fault, Marcuz ;)

Yes...the pressure is on...couldn't do worse than a couple of dodoro's recent efforts...davies and harvey

Do you think those emails will influence Dodoro & co?

I think they will. Why?

Why would so many Bomber fans hype one player who has no bloodline/sentimental connection to the club?

Why would so many Bomber fans be mentioning Dyson when he hasn't really had much focus, eg they are going to take more attention to hype about Dyson than they will a Syliva, Tenace etc as they have heard all about them, seen them a million times and also read enough about them in the media.

Well i hope so..he is a talent and exactly what we need. Fast, great endurance and sublime skills.

Come on dodoro...listen to your members:D

I'd rather Nick. We have enough good, young talant coming through. Some top-10 picks end up being dud players, as we saw with Daniel McAlister, at least we know Nick Stevens is good and can perform at the highest level. We know what we are getting, whereas with a top-10 pick, it could bring anything.

It's a matter of the future vs. the present. We have a good batch of kids waiting in the wings, but our main team has certain deficiencies. We can fix them now, or we can wait for a couple of years, risking more premiership players leaving cos of salary cap pressure, and club champions retiring by the time the draft pick comes good.

We weren't far off this year. The losses against Carlscum and the Roos hurt us. They would've made us top 4. We beat the Lions and the Pies in arguably our two best games of the season. Imagine the possibilities if the cards had fallen our way. Nevertheless, we had a few obvious (but minor) deficiencies, and I say we fix them before we struggle to keep the current group together.

In any other year, I think I'd always want the draft pick.

But this year, I think I'd take Stevens. As others have said - he's ready made. I don't believe we'd be selling out our future for one player.

We have an abundance of "next big things" right now. Watson. Reynolds. Winderlich. Walsh. Et cetera.

Yep. I'm still rather undecided. I think if we trade away two first round draft picks it won't be a big disadvantage to our medium to long term future. We've still got a young and talented list.

Yet, will Stevens really improve us all that much? Is the improvement worth $350k to $400k? I'm not sure. Yes, Stevens will fill one of our holes. So will Rama. Of course, we don't know what the status is on Rama, but hopefully his treatment was successful and he'll be ready for next year. But if Rama's fit, I'm more inclined to let Stevens go elsewhere.

I agree that we have enough young talent coming through and that we should target ready made players that will be ready to fix our deficiencies instantly.

Stevens would be a fantastic pick up. He is quick and runs the lines well. He has been fantastic for years and burst onto the scene like he had been there forever. People forget he gets tagged every week as he probably is their most damaging onballer. To criticise his finals record is not exactly correct as I though he played ok and was close to Port's best player in that Sydney game despite a couple of mistakes. It wasnt his fault that the coach put him in the backline.

Also we need a ready made ruckman that can perform the majority of the ruckwork as I think Hille will be better been a relief ruckman and key forward as semonstrated numerous times this year. I think we should target Allan and hope he stands up based on medical clearance. Not sure who else there is for a short term fix.
