Ive been hearing reports that MJ has been training really hard the last few weeks and people say it is very reminiscent of 95 when he returned from his hiatus. He has responded to the media by saying that he is just trying to get back into shape because he has balooned out a little.

A report also said that a source close to MJ said that he intends to come back and play for the Washington Wizards, close friend Charles Barkley is also said to be in on it also returning with MJ to play for the Wizards. Trying to get that elusive championship that avoided Barkley. ????

Thats what i have heard, personally and i am a HUGE MJ fan, i dont think he will return. But with that i also said that he wouldnt come back when he first retired but he did.
So i dont know but keep your ears peeled for any updates.

Thoughts? QT.

Yes, I heard about that. But my question is why?

His last shot against the Jazz in NBA finals was a perfect way to retire. He doesn't really need to come back. He's achieved all that he's wanted.

Saying that, you just never know.

Personally, I don't think he'll come out of retirement. I would also have to ask why would he want or need to.

It always amazes me that the people who start these stories are reported to be 'a close friend of..' or 'sources close to..' Wouldn't you think all these 'close' people would want to protect their friends?

Slightly off track here, but how amazing would it be to meet MJ and see what makes him tick?!

I agree Same Olds. He did just about everything, stole the ball off the best player in Utah, ran the floor and nailed an 18 footer for the victory and the championship. Why come back and ruin the great way he went out?

But then again hes the most competitive person in the world!!!! He takes even a game of Monopoly serious! And he could be bored with playing business man (although he is extremely successful at that too).

Jordan was forced to retire the first time by commissioner Stern because the owners and the FBI were breathing down on him about Jordan's gambling scandal.

The last time, it was Jordan's choice, and I don't think he'll change his mind and come back. If he did, though, he'd get his ass kicked by the younger players.

I wouldn't mind to see Jordan come back, though the way he ended it the second time was just perfect. It'd obviously be for the love of the game, he's so addicted to competition as Jod said that he might be thinking of returning for one last shot, before it's too late. As GM of the Wizards, I wonder what he'd pay himself?? He actually freed up some room under the cap a weeks ago by trading Juwan Howard, maybe it was so he could pay himself $40 million. :) He'd be worth it though.

He'd pay himself the league minimum, and get a pay rise as GM (which doesn't count against the salary cap, of course), supplemented by a new Nike endorsement deal.

It won't happen though. Nobody wants to see Michael Jordan, thirty pounds over his original playing weight getting his ass kicked by a bunch of younger guys.

sorry Jod, but it wont happen! He stated in a sports illustrated that he was 90% certain of returning to the NBA thru the Washington Wizards...but he has now apparently dumped the idea unfortunatly

Its in the Australian today

If Jordan does come back to play for the Wizards, he'll have to sell his stake of the team. It's against NBA regulations to own a share of a club and be a player at the same time.

Thats true Same Olds, if he came back the Wizards would be looking for a new Manager of Basketball Operations. Apparently Sports Illustrated say he is 90% sure of returning but he said that he was 99.9% certain of not returning, but he said that like 3 months ago.

I also read this on NBA.com

ATLANTA, March 14 (AP) -- Charles Barkley says he is considering making a comeback next season, perhaps with the Washington Wizards.

"I am still thinking about it," Barkley said during halftime of TNT's telecast of the Minnesota-San Antonio game. "If I get myself in great shape and I feel good physically, I am going to play next year -- but only if I can help a team.

"Right now, I am a long way from that decision. Obviously, I have to lose another 30 pounds, and if my knee feels stronger I am going to play."

Barkley, an 11-time All-Star, retired last year after playing 16 seasons. He currently works as an analyst for Turner Sports.

His statement on a possible comeback came one day after Sports Illustrated reported that Michael Jordan was strongly considering a comeback -- a report quickly denied by Jordan and his agent. Jordan and Barkley are close friends.

"I can't control what Michael does. He's a grown man. Michael is Michael and Charles is Charles. I speak only for Charles. It might be fun to play for Michael, [but] he'd just have to get me under the cap.

"It's a long way away, and when I'm ready to make a decision I'll tell everybody," Barkley said. "I'm just using it as a motivational tool right now. The only way I can get up and work out twice a day for four or five hours is to use that [as motivation]. I'm not going to do it simply to lose weight."

This adds fuel to the fire that Jordan and Barkley have a plan to return together.

Thoughts?

Oh and Collingwood Boy shut the f*ck up. He retired the first time because of Stern and the FBI LMAO!!!!!! Thats absolutly rediculous. And everybody wants to see Mike return, hes the greatest and if he thought he couldnt compete anymore he wouldnt come back. But if he gets into shape the youngsters will have no hope of beating him.!

Pfffffft  Think whatever you want you dumb kid. I used to work in an NBA city in an agent's office, when I was a journalism student, so I think I know a bit more than you. You really put me in my place. All you've done is reinforce the stereotype of Australians who don't know anything about sports. No wonder all your domestic leagues are mismanaged!

Good onya Collingwoodenboy ! You know nothing about basketball and you know nothing about football. So go and cry to someone else. MJ is the greatest bball player the world has ever known and he could easily come back and give out free lessons to such losers as Kobe KG and anybody else who steps up!

MJ forever.

Well ain't you Mr Bigshot. Fact is none of us know MJ on a personal basis and none of us know for sure what he is or isn't going to do. So... get over your semi-acheivments and consider the fact what Jod said is a quote from NBA.com and what you said began with "Pfffffffft" I rest my case :D

NOBODY but an idiot would want to see a bloated, pathetic Michael Jordan return to the NBA so he can take 30 fall-away jump shots a game, and desperately grasp the shirt of every opponent who comes within reach, because his legs are too old and slow to play proper defence anymore.

Please, MJ, stay retired. Hang out with your bookie friends, get kicked out of the NBA again, and leave us with our memories.

MJ couldn't compete with the younger players of today and he knows it. That's why he's not coming back. Good riddance.

Well if Jordan plays just 1 season, the wizards would prob become one of the richest teams! imagine the crowds and merchandise sales and eevrything!

But if he does, i will hate him forever!!!

GO BULLS!

I would have to agree and disagree. NO 12 year old would say MJ was pathetic and bloated he's more 9-11 ;)

Pull your head out of your arse, mate, and read my message again. I implied that Jordan would be pathetic if he were to return. And I stand by it. How many 38 year old shooting guards are there in the NBA nowadays?

Oh, and Jod, as you Australians would say: "Sucked in," you moron. I'm much older than twelve and the work I'm in is thoroughly professional. In fact I could probably buy half of your crappy continent with my salary :D :D :D

Whatever collingwoodenboy. Your a tool. If Jordan came back fair enough he wouldnt be the high flyer anymore but Jordan is probably the best post up player the game has ever known. He is amazingly hard to shut down when he gets the ball in the low post and his fadeaway jumpshot is perfect. He would still dominate but in other ways. Now if your going to respond with intelligent remarks then dont respond at all.

Instead of im rich i can buy your crap country?? Get a life.

Wilt Chamberlain was the greatest post up player of all time.

Michael Jordan sucks FAGNUTS.

And Australia has provided Luc Longley and... umm... did I mention Luc Longley ?

collingwoodboy- you forget Andrew Gaze. He won an NBA championship ring too ;)

In regards Jordan though- I really hope he doesnt come back to the NBA and ruin the last memories we had of him. Im sure its not really true.

The other rumour I heard was that MJ was considering buying an NFL franchise, probably only cost a casual $500 odd million, but if he did, Id be putting money on whatever team he did buy, to win the superbowl :D

Collingwooden Fagnuts?

My lord you are 10 years old arent you.

And the only reason Wilt was a great post up player was because of his height back in the day. In the 60's 7 footers werent the norm like they are today so Wilt dominated with his height not his skill. Jordan dominated with skill!

$500 million?! Hah! That was five years ago. Try $1-1.2 billion now. Of course he'd need partners, and then there's that problem of a gambling scandal in his past. The NFL is very selective about who it grants franchises to (although being investigated by the SEC is apparently ok--stand up Lamar Hunt). Jordan is much more likely to buy a baseball or an ice hockey club--almost nobody wants them, they're not very selective about who they sell them to, and, frankly, they need the attention a person like MJ can stir up for them.

There were as many tall players in the centre position as now. It's the other positions which have got much bigger since then. Michael Jordan was a successful post-up player because he CHEATED!
He wasn't a small guy himself, anyway. Jordan was a legit 6'6".

jod23
21 Mar 2001, 23:10
Collingwoodboy you have absolutly no idea about MJ.

He's not going to buy any team!

Jordan was never mixed up in a gambling scandal!

Back in the 60's there werent any 7 footers.

How the hell does Jordan cheat in the Post?

CB you know absolutly nothing.

OK I stand corrected then, but I thought I remember reading that "Dumb Ass" Dan Snyder bought the 'Skins for about $800 Mil, which was expenive for a franchise. Maybe that was longer ago than I thought ????

Your right Arch, the he bought the Redskins for $800 million in 1999 but that price also included the stadium which was only 2 years old at the time .

Nevertheless the Redskins are one of the more expensive franchises anyway. Not all franchises would cost that much.

That is true. NFL franchises are the most expensive in the USA, and I had forgot that the stadium was included in the deal.
In fact there's a franchise the NBA can't give away right now *LOL* They're even offering naming rights to the new owner as an incentive to buy the shitful Grizzlies. Can you imagine the KFC Colonels or the FedEx Couriers playing in the NBA next season?!

As for Jordan, he's been retired for several years now, so one can only assume he's gambled away everything he ever made in basketball, already.
