View Full Version : Doughty - Jones

Michael Doughty for Corey Jones.

We have a history of trading with NM (and occasionally getting a rodgering), and they have an interest in Doughty.

Jones played for Sturt and is out of contract. NM are supposedly not going to resign. Probably 3rd tall forward option. Played evey game from round four on, averaging 16 or so disposals a game, 6 marks and about a goal and a half per game.

Will not happen...

Apparently Hawthorn wanted him as part of the Rawlings trade but the Kangas would not use him as one of the players to be traded with a draft pick..

Well - that pretty much seems to be the opposite interpretation of what's in today's Hun:

"The Roos were hoping to get Rawlings in exchange for their first-round draft pick (No. 9) but the Hawks want a player of equal value for the marking forward. (...) Out-of-contract Roo forward Corey Jones is not part of the Hawks' thinking."

Sounds to me like it was the Hawks who turned down Jones, and seeing as he's out of contract, and it hasn't sounded at any stage up to this point like either Jones of the Kangas have been in a rush to sign ...

What is a Doughty?

A Doughty is a second tier player who didnt make the most of his opportunities to stitch up his wing last season.

Dont we want a KPP and preferrably a CHB /FB Kristof?

Doughty for Jones would be an awesome deal for the Crows. Which probably says how likely it is.

Whilst I would probably prefer to get a draft pick for Dogga, I would be very happy with this trade.

Meh, Jones isn't anything special. We could do better with...Bradshaw!

But really, I think Doughty has been harshly treated by the fans...he was great in his first season last season and when he got a chance this season he played pretty well.

Then you know as little about Corey Jones AFL abilities as you do about Bradshaw's.

What is a Doughty ... Sheesh ...

So, there seems to be consensus that it would be a good deal for the Crows. Ah, nice consensus ... Sure, we'd love some more size, but mostly we need to be BETTER.

And OF COURSE it couldn't happen. Trades that seem on the surface to favour one side or are because of money hardly ever happen.

Sorry if that sarcasm seemed cheap. But it wasn't a crazy suggestion - NM HAS been interested in Doughty, Jones IS from SA (at one time), he IS unsigned, he HAS been recently offered to another club, NM ARE trying to bring in a big-ticket player, they ARE a club that needs to be bottomline conscious if they want to have long-term viability ...

I remember listening to Corey's interview on 5AA late in the season and he is not actually a SA boy. He is a victorian who has come over to play for Sturt so he would increase his chances of getting drafted. He got picked up by Kangaroos around pick 60+ after playing 1 year for Sturt.

precisely. that's the name of the game, and it doesn't happen in 1 major deal. every time you improve, you get closer...

wish more people would understand improving your list is an incremental thing.

Not to sure about Jones but there was 1 young blond headed hard nut who's name i can't recall who destroyed us in the midfield in rd 21 last year that i wouldn't mind having.

He is about 182 cm and built well for a young fella. He is really strong in the hip area which allows him to break tackles easily.

I like you, really like him but he would be almost untouchable as far as Kangas are concerned.

Another bloke that might be worth looking at is Dylan Smith who was taken in the same draft at No. 6. For some reason he isn't liked much by the Kangas match committee but he could be a bit of a bargain. One of those players that could do very well with the change of scenery. He is 175 cm / 75 kg from memory.

Corey Jones would be okay for us as it would add another forward option.

Harris had his best game of the year against us - he was bloody good that night unfotunately. Don't know that he can play at that level all the time though.

I'm like you Stiffy. Doughty for Jones and run like hell!! ;)

I was telling Matt last night, I have this strange feeling that Dogga won't be traded. Call it stupidity, call it wishfull thinking........I don't know.

We'd be laughing if that deal came off. I rate Doughty highly but hell not that highly. Theyd want more than just him, maube throw in a 4th rounder to go with it. Corey Jones is going to be a futue star and All Australian. Yep he is a VIC but doesnt mind SA but I doubt we'd ever see him here.

I fail to share your joy.

On the contrary I'm p*ssed off that he hasn't been traded.

I'd rather have someone in our squad that could make the actual playing team rather than just train with them.

I've got my fingers crossed too - I hope Stiffy's right and he goes tomorrow.

Ummmmmmm Macca23.........somebody has to want to trade with you before that can happen. Either the AFC didn't want to trade him or other clubs weren't interested.

I am very happy.......for Matt......and for Dogga - because I think he is a player who can make our side consistanly. I guess the true test will be when they do there delistings, personally I think Dogga will be around in 2004 and beyond.

Doughty was very good in his first season in 2002, and wasn't given much opportunity in 2003, but didn't acquit himself badly when given a chance.
