'Essendon is in for a busy week, with defender Danny Jacobs a real possibility to follow Solomon out of the club.

Jacobs received a revised contract offer from the Bombers last week, but is believed to be weighing up far better offers from Carlton and Melbourne.'

Jacobs is no big loss.

Um - yes he is. who will play full-back when the idiot Fletcher gets reported again??

I would like to say Sam Hunt - but the guy is as injury prone as Henneman.

Hunt will be our next full-back...jacobs is to slow to play on the power full-forwards.

As I said - I agree he should be - but if he continuously gets injured he is no use to us. Look at Henneman - all the potential in the world and 2-3 years of injuries have almost completely ruined his career.

jacobs is a good player, but he is a third string backman, not a kpp. if we are offered a good deal during trade week, im sure essendon will take it. jacobs will always be a good player, but will never be a real star. would be dissapointing to see him go though because he has got amazing hands, would want something decent in return.

Yeah right.

Leader in marks, and very dependable. Combined with the loss of Solomon our defence will be in for a rough season next year. Players like Hunt dont just instantly come in and play well in round 1.

When you zone off your opponant and become the third man up its easy to get a lot of marks. He is a flanker and as i said b4 id rather keep him but he is not important to our structure

I agree marcuz. Can be replaced. Don't want to see him go but if we are offered a good deal for him then let him go.

its not a point of weather hes crucial or not, its becoming *****ing rediculous as far as essendon players being lil money whores, serious just bad...

it would be bad to see him go.. but as for essendon players being money hungry, from their point of view it is a pretty cuthroat list to be on. Jacobs would know as much as sheeds that his position on the team even if valuable at the moment hes not a KPP and probabally wont reach his footy/financial potential on the team. Sheeds has even said publically with lucas now being a dominant backman that Jacobs is left out of place.. Plus im sure we will get something good for him sheeds is pretty good at marketing his traid bait...

I will be disappointed if Jacobs goes. I believe his ability to read the play in defence is second only to Fletcher, and is greatly underrated by most people. Essendon's defence this year was one of the strongest....and reomoving jacobs and solomon no matter how "replacable" they might be will hurt us. ALthough obviously no one is assuming we can replace solly's hardness and mungrel in defence.
I recall Sam Hunt last year playing a game in the seniors and streaming out of the backline with a lovely mark and kick.....he looked VERY promising and also has pace.....know he was injured this year but hope he can return to some of that form that saw him promoted last year. I think Hunt is one player where potential is definately warranted....he will be a gun.

Is it only me who doesn't rate Sam Hunt in the slightest???

no, it's not just you
i don't see how anyone can rate him, considering he has done nothing at senior level. of course he has been injured, but he did have his chances last year. he may well be a good player, but i wouldn't be putting my house on it.

admittedly, i don't see the VFL team much though.

Hunt did well in the seniors when he played in 2002. The kid has only just turned 20. Im predicting a regular senior spot for him next year

If Jacobs' role in the team is expendable, then why would Hunt have a regular senior place?

Hunt is being groomed for a key defensive post. Apart from Fletcher, Sam is our best close-checking tall defender. If he can get a role down back, that will free up Lucas across half back. That will cause nightmares for the opposition.

You just answered your own question. He is a close checking defender. Jacobs zones off his man. Hunt has the athletic ability to go stride for stride with any forward in the afl. Apart from fletcher we dont have any close checking tall defenders. Hunt's ability to kick in from full back is another asset he would bring to the table.

Ok, so who gets dropped to make way for Hunt?

Henneman makes way for Allan.

McGrath makes way for one of Rama/Reynolds/Licha.

He's (Hunt) got this whole "the new Brad Fox" aura about him I reckon.
