View Full Version : Corey Jones?

The Hun is reporting that NM aren't going to resign Jones. I thought he had an okay year.
What value is he? Strengths and weaknesses?
Is he the potential other participant in a Doughty to Kangas trade? He's from SA, NM and Adelaide trade relatively often, there's been stated interest in Doughty from NM ...

Corey Jones has a stack of trade value.
Very talented footballer, and quite frankly, i'd be very surprised if North didn't re-sign him.
Certainly is a spot at Geelong for him.

The roos better sign him

Reading the Hun, it sounds like NM offered him and 9 to Hawthorn for Rawlings and got turned down.
Jones remains unsigned.

If that is indeed what was offered and refused, North should walk away and let Jade play for Footscray.

If that was indeed the offer we probably should of taken it, unless we have other plans.

Hi Kristof I have searched the Herald Sun site and the only information I could find regarding Corey Jones is this:
"Out-of-contract Roo forward Corey Jones is not part of the Hawks' thinking."
This does not say that North will not re-sign Jones or that he was offered to the Hawks. Can you please paste a link to what you are reading.
BTW Corey Jones is from Wycheproof which is in country Victoria. He missed out on being drafted and went to play senior football in SA to develop his career.

If that is true, Hawthorn have horribly unrealistic expectations.
Glad we're out of the race.
Not signing Corey Jones would be madness, from what I saw of the bloke last year he's developing into a bloody good footy player. Another year of like improvement would have him in the very top echelon of key forwards. Jeez if he walks I'd love him at Carlton.
Corey Jones would have to be the most under-rated player at the Kangeroos.
I would have him at Collingwood in an instant

Hmmmmmmm anything from Carlton id be interested in...........how are your.............hmmmmmmm no forget that............hmmmmmmm wait no, no actually theres not a thing Id want from Carlton.
Actually there is.......can you get me one of the brown lunch bags filled with money that you paid some of your players with?
(I feel for you blokes, have a few mates who love the Blues and they are suffering).

I think your getting jones mixed up with petrie. Jones plays more like a floating forward much like a ben dixon

You tried that tactic in 1987, and it didnt work back then either.

It depends on his further development this year physically and footy-wise of course, but he impresses me most alongside Wells of the young kangaroos.

Jones can play. He was picked at 70 in 2000, and sometimes that shows through in his game (lacks composure occasionly) but he is demon at the contest and is a great mark.
I think he will be a permanent and excellent part of the side for 10 years, but IMO his scope for improvement is not as great as a few young blokes at North.
As I said earlier, if Hawthorn rejected JOnes + pick 9, they can p1ss off put him into the draft.
P+P is right. Hawthorn know they don't have long to win a flag, and draft picks would just result in a Brennan type stuff up.

If they think they are close to winning a flag, IMHO they are kidding themselves. Hay and Graham are past their best, Barker and Barlow aren't exactly the type of forwards that scare the opposition these days (add Dixon to that list). Thompson is the only decent key position player they have IMHO.
The midfield is also overrated. Craword's class is unquestionable, as is Mitchel's hard ball getting, but it dries up pretty quickly after that. They could start by making the finals first, having missed out for two years in a row.
Pick 9 and Jones for Rawlings would have angered more North people than Hawthorn's, IMHO. Jones is a required player for mine and I hope North footy department thinks the same way.

I think Jones straight up for Rawlings would have angered a lot of North people, let alone adding in the number 9 pick.

I'd love Corey Jones at St Kilda.
Would give up a fair bit to get him, too.

This could be interesting. Define "a fair bit" for me, would you ? What are we talking here ? Who from the Saints would you be willing to part with in return for Jones ? Indulge me...

You hit the nail on the head would be an understatement there. The bloke kicked 16 goals in a grand final for wycheproof (in victoria where he's from not SA)
Played bendigo pioneers then went to SA. Was only 17 when he kicked these goals against MEN.
His only fault is his kicking for goal. He is a great mark for his size and NEVER shirks the issue when his body needs to be put on the line (just ask D Jacobs) gets the ball on the lead and can grab it in a pack. Similar to c tarrant just not as tall but has a lot more ba**s.
No way he is moving from the roos.

For a start we are far closer than you are to winning a premiership, aside from that some of your comment are laughable at best.
Hay past his prime thats gold that:p yeah not 25 and he is washed up.I tell you what well keep Hay as our full back you have watt baird whoever else you want to play there, i know which one i'd prefer.
Dont know if you noticed but both Barlow and Dixon both spent more time down back than down forward, but lets not let facts get in the way of your fairytail. Barker also when regained fitness fitted in nicely at C.H.F
But wait there is more :D
Crawfords class is questionable
and its Mitchell champ and to say that he gets hard balls shows you obviously saw him in 2 games this year, one of which he tore you apart.
Your getting Quality in Rawlings, if you in fact get him and your going to have to pay a high price for him

Am glad that Hawks don't want Jones, I certainly want him to stay at the Roos.
He has lots of class, and I think his kicking will improve in 04. Great mark for a medium forward.

Fair bit - a deal which allows the Kangaroos to get adquate compensation while keeping the majority of St Kilda's tradable assests in place.

Yes definatly going to be a quality 'Tall Midfielder' or '3rd forward' with great marking ability. when he elarns to kick straight will be dynamite, would hate to lose him.

Dixon = hff, Williams = hff, Lekkas = hff, Hodge =forward midfielder, Barker = hff, Lonie *imo* should be a hff, Barlow = option as hff
C.Jones = hff.
Maybe Jones can play but (and this is the thing) he isn't exactly a priority for what Hawthorn needs. More than enough options capable of that role already.
