View Full Version : Petrie & Watt to Melbourne
We have heard that Shannon Watt has been talking to the Dees but I am led to believe that these two players could be wearing Red & Blue in 2004.
The talk I heard was:
Pick 5 to Hawks.
Shannon Watt, Drew Petrie & Second rnd pick to Melb.
Jade Rawlings to Kangas.
I think Melbourne & Hawthorn win in this scenario but the Roos do get their man in Jade Rawlings.
Not sure how true this talk is but we can only wait and see.

There is absolutly no way the roos will trade Petrie!

Why involve Melbourne? Petrie for Rawlings would get the job done, I'd reckon, as much as the Roos wouldn't do it.

If Petrie gets traded ill be doin a nude run down Queen st Mall.

Exactly. North won't trade Petrie and if they somehow did, Hawthorn would snap him up for Rawlings.

Shouldn't your name be knuckle head?
the kangaroos get raped in that deal. Watt is a promising full back and petrie an exciting young forward. Cant see that one coming off. Anyway john hooks from hawthorn said on sport 927 this morning said hawthorn would be after a KPP for rawlings, whether that came from north or another club he didnt care
Hawks are talking a quality player for Rawlings not a draft pick!

Please, North wouldn't sell their future away for Jade.

Maybe I should have called this post come and abuse Nuckle all Kangas and Hawks supporters.
Gee north people rate Petrie high. But if they want Rawlings they may have to sacrifice big.
The Hawks can on trade the pick 5 for a big name like Soloman if they choose. This deal is closer than you people think.

Melbourne are talking Solomon or Stevens for pick 5 why in the hell would they get involved in that deal to help Rawlings get to North when they could prob swap pick 5 to Hawks for Rawlings anyway

There is NO way Hawthorn would trade Rawlings for Pick 5 only.
It's already well-known that they are playing hard-ball with the Roos
and have knocked back proposed offers - it would need to be a lot
more substantial that Pick 5.
And here i was hoping that now Trade Week is finally upon us, the ridiculously ficticious stuff like this one from NUCKLE might be a thing of the past.
Crikey mate, you didn't even try with this one!!
Complete rubbish.

Their football manager was on radio stating that they wanted a KPP and maybe picks but they definently wanted a player to contribute right away. Because as the phat man just stated in a previous post he believes that their window of opprtunity will only last 2 to 3 years.

That trade would be disastrous for the Kangaroos.
Take out Petrie, add fringe player (Morrell/Baird/Teague/Smith) and it would be closer, but you are still a moron for suggesting the first one.

If Jade has said he wants to leave the club then he could just walk out and end up at Carlton or West Bulldogs and the Hawks get nothing.
To suggest that Rawlings is worth more than pick 5 on its own is absolutely ludicrous and if the Hawks think that thy could end up with nothing.
It is funny to see these clubs playing hard ball on players they know are leaving. At the end of the day if the players don't get what they want up front they just walk and go into pre season draft.
In this case Hawthorn don't hold as many cards as some may think they do !!

100% correct. If the Roos were willing to trade Petrie and Watt to get Rawlings then they would just do a straight swap with Hawthorn, they wouldnt bring Melbourne in on the deal to complicate matters.

watt and petrie are both contracted, and although i know that doesnt mean that they cant be traded, i am supremely confident that both will be at north for the next 10 years. if petrie was to be traded, i would accept nothing less then the no.1 pick + a decent player. in other words, hes not for sale!!

~This sounds perfectly fair to me! Our CHF, FB and our 2nd round pick for someone to play a floating role in defense or a handy 2nd string forward role~ Hmm! I mean regardless of how anyone on this board rates the two players mentioned there is absolutley no way a team gives up their starting CHF and FB to get one player let alone throwing in a draft pick as well.

What did you expect? Trading Petrie alone for Rawlings would be disasterous for North and they wouldn't even entertain this proposal - Petrie will be our CHF for the next 10 years, he'll be captain of this club in 5 years and he's already shown that he'll likely be a better player than Rawlings (and I do rate Rawlings as a player) - add to that the fact he's 21 and doesn't have any injury concerns at all

It makes perfect sense having that 3 way trade with Melb in the middle - almost as much sense as driving from melb to brisbane via Perth!!
Can't see North swapping a tall back and a promising tall forward for a 28 year old with only a couple of years to offer.
It's good to see brothers in the same team but it shouldn't mean that the Hawks should get away with Murder either. North should take their emotion out and look at it objectively - Rawlings is good but he's a short term solution.

Yeah maybe, but it had nothing to do with the thread. Picking out a scrap from a Hawthorn supporter's post and having a dig (subtle jibe, call it what you will) at the club, and you have the audacity to label the Hitman and other Hawks on this board "Geelong-hating"???
Actually i mostly have a lot of time for your post and on most issues i agree with you, but regarding the HFC - give it a rest mate, you're looking more and more bitter every day...

Don't forget the bit about how we're going to chuck in Daniel Wells and Daniel Harris as the sweetener.
Ridiculous trade.
Drew Petrie will be a much better player than Jade, not to mention how young Drew is.

As much as I am very excited about aquiring Jade Rawlings, Drew Petrie is 21 and is already the most potential filled CHF in the game along with Jonathon Brown. Awesome mark, can kick 50+ goals, his defensive game is better than any 197cm+ player in the game, always chases, always tackles. Will be our captain in 2007 after Adam Simpson hands it down, dont talk stupid.

Why? It wasn't even to a point where it was funny, let alone realistic :)
Hawks don't want a pick for Rawlings, we want a player of the same standard. How bout Petrie for Rawlings - Fair!!
I don't understand why the Hawks are not interested in Corey Jones, if they could get him and a early pick that would be a fair deal.
Deal or No Deal!! (Sorry, I forgot how ridiculously stupid that program is)!!

Rawlings has only just turned 26 and has at least another 6 years left. Not to mention the fact he still hasn't reached his full potential yet, therefore the Hawks should do better than an early pick!!
