Gram made to measure for Saints (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=124145)
At last, the first trade of the 2003 exchange period has been confirmed with Brisbane Lions youngster Jason Gram set to become a Saint.
The 19 year-old, who was the Lions’ first selection (No.19) at the 2001 National AFL draft, will move to Moorabbin, in return for the Saints' second pick (No.23).

Corey McKernan’s two year stint with Carlton has come to an end, with the deal to send him back to the Kangaroos confirmed late on Thursday afternoon.
In return, the Blues will receive defender David Teague and key forward Digby Morrell.
“We got a key defender and a key position player, so we’re very happy with the deal,” said Carlton recruiting manager Shane O’Sullivan. “And they’ve both played under Denis Pagan, which adds to the deal as well.”
For McKernan, the opposite probably applies. The dual Kangaroo premiership player was traded to the Blues at the end of 2001 after his relationship with Pagan started to sour.
McKernan thrived under Wayne Brittain in 2002 and won the club’s best and fairest award, but struggled in 2003 – Pagan’s first season in charge of the Blues. He played 19 games and booted 20 goals.
Teague played seven games in 2003 for a total of 33 with the Roos, while Morrell booted 18 goals from 14 games. He played 40 games for the Roos all up.

The Brown deal isn't signed yet. There's still a chance that Hall won't be going to Geelong, in which case Geelong would receive either pick 20 or 21 instead.

Is that confirmed? I just read that it was Allen for Essendon's 3rd pick. How did Essendon manage to get Koops as well?

Hope thats not true....would much rather the pick #6 and Alvey than Koops and Allan
This is confirming the Allan deal, article is on the Essendon website, in the Engine Room subscribers area, should be public in a couple of hours.
RUCK BOOST: ALLAN JOINS BOMBERS
Friday, 17 October 2003
Matthew Allan – an All Australian ruckman just four seasons ago – will play for Essendon next season. In Essendon’s first completed deal of trade week, Allan was traded from Carlton to the Bombers in exchange for Essendon's third round draft selection. The acquisition of Allan is very similar to recent decisions taken by the club that saw John Barnes and Paul Salmon arrive at Windy Hill in the twilight of their careers.
“We picked up John Barnes at 31 and Paul Salmon at 35 and both gave us outstanding value in the time they were here. Barnes played in a Premiership and Salmon played a significant role in ensuring we played finals’ football in 2002,” Shaw “At 28-years-old this bloke is a spring chicken.”
“David Hille is still learning and the development of Tristan Cartledge, Jason Laycock and Simon O’Keefe is still in its infancy. These are strategic decisions that will ensure we are more than competitive in the ruck for the duration of games. It is not very often 28-year-old All Australian ruckmen walk in off the street. If he can recapture anything like his best form he will be more than useful.”
Allan said he felt it was time for a change of scenery having struggled with injury at Carlton in recent seasons. He is now motivated an excited about the challenge that lies ahead.
“I suppose I knew my time was up and I was looking for a new challenge. I have spoken a lot with Adrian Dodoro and he has been fantastic and got me really excited about football again and being at Essendon. I am thrilled to be here,” Allan said.
“The body is feeling good now. I have had a horror run and I missed a fair bit of football in my mid-20s and that was disappointing. I am a lot smarter with my training now and that has helped me. I am really looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt.”
The 198cm Allan didn't miss the similarities between his arrival at Essendon and that of John Barnes and Paul Salmon.
“I played a fair bit of football against John Barnes and Fish and I am buoyed by the fact that they played well into their 30s and I am looking to do that. I just want to give Essendon some good service and experience some team success,” he said.
He is also confident that he can work in well with Essendon's number one ruckman in David Hille.
“I hope to work with David Hille and the other ruckman on the list. It is an exciting challenge for me at this stage of my career and I am very excited about it. David is an exciting young talent and I hope I can help him in some small way and fit in and play my part,” Allan said.
“You look at the way Brisbane did things in the Grand Final with two ruckman. It worked really well and you produce better efforts if you get a bit of a chop out here and there.”

Trent Croad is a Hawk once more, after the deal to bring him back to Glenferrie Oval was completed on the final day of the AFL Trading Period.
The Hawks have forfeited their first pick at the National AFL Draft – no.10 overall – for Croad, who it traded to Fremantle at the end of 2001 in exchange for the first pick in the draft, which it used to snare emerging star Luke Hodge.
Croad, who kicked 42 goals in first year as a Docker but just 18 from 17 matches in 2003, is expected to hold down a key defensive position for the Hawks given the expected departure of Jade Rawlings.
He played four seasons for the Hawks between 1998 and 2001 and played 84 games and booted 79 goals.
If the Hawks do a deal for Rawlings, it is expected it will be for a first round draft pick, probably lower than the selection they have offloaded to the Dockers.
The Hawks have traded ruckman David Loats to Geelong.

Sydney and Adelaide have struck a deal involving a move for Swans forward Scott Stevens and an exchange of draft picks.
Stephens will cross to Adelaide along with Sydney’s second round pick – number 31 – in exchange for two picks from the Crows – numbers 29 and 45 at the National AFL Draft.
The 21 year-old forward, originally from Perth, has had a battle with injury during his time with Sydney.
But at 194cm and 85kg, he shows plenty of promise and is expected to develop quickly working with the likes of Wayne Carey, Scott Welsh and his namesake Mark Stevens in Adelaide.

Hawthorn midfield pair Daniel Harford and Brett Johnson have made the move to Optus Oval in return for Carlton’s pick 51 at the National AFL Draft.
Harford and Johnson are expected join new chums Heath Scotland, who has crossed from Collingwood, and former Bomber Cory McGrath, in a new-look Blues midfield in 2004.
Harford, one of the most creative players in the competition at his best, has struggled for form and fitness in recent seasons.
He was the runner-up in the Hawks’ best-and-fairest in 1997 and third in 2000.
Johnson, originally from Swan Districts in WA, is another who has found senior opportunities hard to come by in the past year or so.
The 21 year-old is not the quickest player going around, but the Blues have him earmarked for a big 2004.

The Western Bulldogs have received a nice injection of class across half-back after handing pick no.19 at the National AFL Draft to Fremantle for Steven Koops.
His best season was 2001, when he starred across half-back and was a regular candidate for ‘mark of the week’ honours.
His start to 2003 was delayed for two months after he suffered a shoulder injury while playing for ATSIC All Stars against Carlton in January in Darwin.
Guerra from Port to St Kilda for Pick 39

COMPLETED TRADES
St Kilda trade pick #23 to Brisbane for Jason Gram.
Gram, a young player with some potential is a good addition to the Saints young squad, and Brisbane should be able to work some magic with #23.
Melbourne trade pick #20 to Richmond for Ben Holland.
Melbourne gain some much needed experienced solidarity to the backline, while Richmond gain a pick that is probably worthy.
Carlton trade Corey McKernan to Kangaroos for Digby Morrell and David Teague.
Great piece of work by the Blues. Morrell and Teague, 2 fringe players from the Roos should fit in nicely at OO and add some body and height. Corey bolsters the Roos ruck stocks.
Fremantle trade Trent Croad to Hawthorn for pick #10
Croad is not worth pick 10. Silly Hawks. Silly.
Sydney trade Scott Stevens & pick #31 to Adelaide for picks #29 & #45
I like Stevens from what I have see, and he could fit in nicely at Adelaide. Hard to judge until the draft.
Collingwood trade Heath Scotland to Carlton for pick #35
Carlton add more out-of-favour players which should help. Will play 22 games.
Carlton trade Justin Murphy to Essendon for Cory McGrath
Blues big winners. McGrath shows potential. Murphy shows squat.
Fremantle trade Steven Koops to Bulldogs for pick #19
Koops will fit in nicely at the Dogs. Good player who should become very important at Footscray. Good draft pick to Freo.
Hawthorn trade Brett Johnson and Daniel Harford to Carlton for pick #51
BJ will flourish given game time and will work well with Scotland, McGrath and co. Given a lifeline to his career and I think he will take it. Harford may get another few years out of him. #51 - meh.
Hawthorn trade David Loats to Geelong for Simon Beaumont
Geelong trade David Clarke to Carlton for David Loats
Carlton trade Simon Beaumont to Hawthorn for David Clarke
Loats will add some needed height to Geelong, possibly up forward. Beaumont give the Hawks backline some experience and depth. David Clarke is mediocre.
Carlton trade Matthew Allan to Essendon for pick #60
First Barnes, then Fish, now Allen? Interesting one.
Port Adelaide trade Brent Guerra to St Kilda for pick #39
Good experience to the Saints youthful team. Good addition
Port Adelaide trade Adam Morgan to Bulldogs for pick #34
Meh?
David Haynes and pick 42 for geelongs pick 20.
Good addition to the Catters. I don't mind him and I think he'll do okay.
