I can't choose from I've Just Seen a Face, For No One, Across the Universe, Hey Jude, Eleanor Rigby, I Will, Twist and Shout, Lucy in the Sky...
I voted for 'other'.. :)
I have no answer for that question. Impossible!
I cant even narrow it down to 10 or so to list, just way too many absolutely great songs. Love them all.
Helter Skelter is my favourite Beatles song, although I think Siouxsie and the Banshees' version is better.

Hey Jude, ahead of Let It Be and Something.
But you can go on forever.... I'm also a fan of Yesterday, Ob-li-di Ob-la-da, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Maxwell's Silver Hammer (first time I heard it I couldn't help cracking up) and many, many more.
It's a tragedy they broke up when they did... 1968-69 were their best years. I wonder what Imagine would've been like as a Beatles song...

Well these other "die-hard" Beatles fans you speak of must not be as die hard as they say they are. A true Beatles fan could never narrow it down to 10 songs. It would be easier for me to list the ones I dont class as favourites than it would to list the ones I do class as favourites.

No it's just that most fans can get their hand off it long enough to be realistic about the music. :) Some of the people I know have more Beatles knowledge in their little finger than you do in your whole body, I guarantee that. And they can all name a top 10. So can Paul McCartney. ;)
There's one thing to be a big fan, there is another to just be stupid about it.

I have always had a connection with John Lennon and was deeply affected by his death. I love the Beatles music but no more than the next person.
This connection with John Lennon grew even more when I saw his son Julian on a Perth Telethon many years ago now. I just thought Julian Lennon was a modest solid human being. He donated a tremendous sum of money which he didnt need to do.
I have always liked the song Hey Jude! I didnt quite understand it until I found out that Paul McCartney wrote it about Julian Lennon when his parents were splitting up.
The point is my favourite song is Hey Jude. So much so that I named my son Julian because my life was so touched by John and Julian Lennon it was my tribute to them and my son. Funny that this was not any premeditated thing. I named my son Julian and worked out the rest of it later. If you know what I mean. Wanting him to always feel happy and be safe. Like any parent would.

Something is one of the most brilliant Beatles songs ever recorded, credit must go to George Harrison and his Here Comes The Sun is sublime and I never tire of hearing it. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of the most moving songs I have ever heard. Unsung genius
Lennon had some cool stuff such as I Am The Walrus, Come Together, She Said, She Said, Nowhere Man, In My Life and Polytheme Pam
Paul had Yesterday, Hey Jude and Let It Be among many others
Ringo sand the others tunes but wrote Dont Pass Me By and Octopuses Garden.
Norwegian Wood (number 2 in my list)
Two Of Us (my number 3)
Blackbird
Taxman
Something
For No One
She's Leaving Home
Got To Get You In To My Life
Back In The USSR
Penny Lane
Michelle
Across The Universe (my pick for number one)
Paperback Writer

2 Strawberry Fields
3 Across The Universe
4 Golden Slumbers

Luv the Beatles - only group to sing in my key lol.
The Indian influence and Revolution 9 crap I'm not a fan of. The simplicity of the lyrics, melody of their early stuff is what i like. So ...

top 10.
that is difficult.
All I can think about to answer this are songs that have meant something to me in the order i noticed them
1) paperback writer - this was about the first beatles song that i really liked. probably about 10 years old. I liked the guitar riff and couldn't wait for the bits inbetween to be over so the riff would start again.
2) a day in the life - remember getting tingles down my back when i first heard lennon's intro. probably about 14 yrs old.
3) tell me what you see - i liked the buddy holly type vocals between lennon and macca. remember being really impressed by this song when i was about 15 and in love and all that sooky stuff.
4) two of us - remember university days used to like humming and singing this song around the house.
5) across the universe - remember getting about as close to meditative calm as ever possible listening to this song. probably about 20ish.
6) twist and shout - again about 20ish - received from the uk the footage of them playing this song in colour at manchester. great visual accompanient to one of the best rock n roll performances ever.
7) and your bird can sing - the song of the anthology series in my opinion. in my thirties and after a lay off of beatles music, got reinterested after hearing the anthology series. this was damn funny and cool.
8) i'm down - best beatles clip ever - them playing this at shea stadium. crazy, funny, hysterical, mad energy.
9) ticket to ride - always loved this song.
10) all of abbey road. - i had to cheat here - the best album with the best songs ever made. even better than the beach boys pet sounds album. any song off this album except for max hammer and oct garden. could make the list.
Love the folky songs
If I Needed Someone
I've Just Seen A Face
Norwegian Wood
Two Of Us
Things We Said Today
Blackbird
Here There And Everywhere
I Dont Want To Spoil The Party

OK I'll follow the format of Harmsey................
(1) Here Comes The Sun: One of the most beautiful pop songs ever recorded, intricate yet simple, effortless yet understated, even has some of the first moog synthesiser stuff on a pop song. The melody and how the song builds up in intensity on the chorus really makes this song great.
(2) A Day In The Life: That epic orchestral ending with that sustained crash of the piano still sends chills down my spine and Lennon's haunting start to the song, his vocals are some of his best on this song. Also Paul's little change in direction "woke up, got out of bed"
(3) While My Guitar Gently Weeps: How haunting is that intro? Eric providing one of his best guitar solos, everything about this track still astounds one after all these years. Georges acoustic demo of this on anthology 3 is equally as brilliant. The several live workouts of this song are always great with the extended guitar solos which are so powerful and emotional they can make you cry.
(4) Abbey Road Medley: A meticulously worked collage of several unfinished songs to end one of the great albums. Just listen to it, the guitar playing, some of Paul's best singing, Lennon's sarcasm, Ringos drum solo.
(5) For No One: I rate this highly in the McCartney song book. Its affecting and consise, love the french horn solo.
(6) Dear Prudence: Nice fingerpicking and great singing by Lennon, a swirling melodic bass line by Macca, Timely drum fills by Ringo and those little understated guitar fills by Harrison. Thats what makes the band the greatest.
(7) Come Together: You will struggle to find a better drum and bass combination in a rock song and some swampy piano which John loved also some nonsensical bizarre lyrics that no one would dare critisise (ok to rip into Paul but not John) and a great Lennon vocal.
(8) And Your Bird Can Sing: The double tracked guitars and vocals shimmer on this one, John called it a throwaway in later years, it sounds so fresh and bright after all these years, different to the anthology version, its an overlooked song.
(9) Let It Be: Its a classic, has a quasi-religious feel to it, one of the best songs from McCartneys stable, great piano playing and that guitar solo from George, he was on fire in the late 60's
(10) I'll Follow The Sun: a soothing, optimistic and sunny little acoustic tune, with some Lennon/McCartney magic. Paul does this on tour today.
(11) Across The Universe: beautiful song, great songwriting, one of Johns best written songs, ruined by Spector, however the anthology version and LIB naked version is much better.
(12) Within You, Without You: Illustrates Georges quantum leap in songwriting, of you get a chance find the lyrics to this great underrated Indian flavoured song, and stop skipping it on pepper and listen to what a 24 year old English boy was telling the world.
(13) Dont Let Me Down: one of Johns last great Beatles numbers. Still sounds fresh, a far cry to the beatlemania days the whole let it be album was
(14) Hey Jude: No need for explanation
(15) Norweigan Wood: first use of the sitar, great song those harmonies, its a magic tune
sorry gtg wack off over my sgt pepper LP

Great song. It is IMO an excellent way to start Side 2 of Abbey Road after the somewhat haunting 'I Want You (She's so Heavy)'. Where 'I Want You' is haunting, 'Here Comes The Sun' is happy and upbeat.
(2) A Day In The Life: That epic orchestral ending with that sustained crash of the piano still sends chills down my spine and Lennon's haunting start to the song, his vocals are some of his best on this song. Also Paul's little change in direction "woke up, got out of bed"
If anyone asks you what the difference between Lennon and McCartney in terms of songwriting, simply play them this song. Beautifully displays the contrast in their styles. In this song Lennon seems pessimistic, McCartney seems optimistic.
IMO the best guitar solo you'll ever here. I've seen the 'Concert For George' DVD and watching Eric perform this song there was unbelivably emotional. It leaves you wondering how a man can do that to a guitar...
(4) Abbey Road Medley: A meticulously worked collage of several unfinished songs to end one of the great albums. Just listen to it, the guitar playing, some of Paul's best singing, Lennon's sarcasm, Ringos drum solo.
One of the greatest moments in music. With 'Mean Mr Mustard' to kick it off and appropriately 'The End' to end it, there is not a moment you want to press pause. Unbelivable.
(7) Come Together: You will struggle to find a better drum and bass combination in a rock song and some swampy piano which John loved also some nonsensical bizarre lyrics that no one would dare critisise (ok to rip into Paul but not John) and a great Lennon vocal.
Great song. Excellent way to begin Abbey Road, perhaps the title refers to The Beatles trying to "Come Together" one last time?
(9) Let It Be: Its a classic, has a quasi-religious feel to it, one of the best songs from McCartneys stable, great piano playing and that guitar solo from George, he was on fire in the late 60's
Anyone who considers a song off 'Let it Be' cannot judge them until you've heard 'Let it Be...Naked'. It is so big an improvement words can't describe it. The first version of 'Let it Be' (the song) I heard was the Naked version and I thought it was unbelivable.
I then heard the version that was released in the 70s, with the orchestra etc, the one everyone rates so highly. And I honestly thought it was absolutely terrible. I was left wondering why anyone would change what the naked version....
Another song you didn't mention was 'For You Blue'. A great love song written by George. IMO he's underrated as a songwriter.

If George was a singwriter in any other band he would be more often heralded as one of the finest songwriters from the 60's and the rest of his solo career the critics found it hard to compare against the towering ATMP album and his beatles stuff.
George famously quipped on recieving the inaugural Billboard Century Award in 1992. "I hope my being in the beatles hasn't been a hinderance to my solo career"

If you construct a greatest hits package taking 4 songs from ATMP and 2 songs from every subsequent solo George record you would have a greatest hits comparable to any solo artist, he really has dozens of classics that are not so much talked about or heard on radio.

What Is Life is one of the greatest songs of all time.
yes it is a great song. george was intending to give this to Billy Preston, but decided to give it some studio treatment with Spector and what resulted was the top 10 US hit found on All Things Must Pass.
He seems to nearly give away most of his good stuff only to record it after a rethink. All Those Years Ago pre Lennons murder was a very different song he was intending for Ringo, but George re-wrote it as a Lennon tribute but did give Ringo "Wrack My Brain".
