Didak for Stevens?
By Jake Niall, Stephen Rielly
October 14, 2003
Collingwood's chances of snaring Nick Stevens from Port Adelaide could hinge on its willingness to part with promising forward Alan Didak.
In their first meeting since the opening of the trade period, Port Adelaide yesterday asked the Magpies for Didak and their first pick in exchange for Stevens, a request that Collingwood, while "reluctant" to lose the South Australian, did not reject out of hand.
Collingwood football manager Neil Balme said of the Port approach: "We'd be very reluctant to let Alan Didak go."
Collingwood, however, was hardly in a position to declare its hand, because coach Mick Malthouse and chief executive Greg Swann had not yet returned from England and obviously would have a major say in whether a player such as Didak could or would be traded.
Port has stated its desire for two first-round picks, or for a suitable player and a first-round pick, in any Stevens trade.

The Magpies are keen to recruit Stevens, whose services are being sought by several clubs, including Carlton, which has the leverage of an early pick in the pre-season draft.
That Port would ask for Didak comes as no surprise, considering the gifted forward was drafted as the third pick in the 2000 draft from the Port Adelaide Magpies, the Power's SANFL sibling club.

The article also has info about Croad/ St Kilda, more Carlton duds up for trade, roos news (motlop), Hawthorn talks to Notting and another Brissy youngster wants back to vic.
That's surprising. I would have thought that Didak and pick #17 wouldn't have been enough for Port, so for them to approach the Pies with that offer seems a little strange. Perhaps Port will also ask the Pies to supply a higher pick than the one they currently possess.

not a chance collingwood would do that. id rather we keep didak. will be better IMO. i want him in the collingwood midfield, not ports:cool: pick 17 i agree, but give them our 4th pick aswell and scottland/obree/holland/mcgough. those that arent pies supporters dont really know much about didak, but im very sure collingwood would not do that deal.
im also guessing they know collingwood would say no. next time they approach collingwood it will look more like my deal ;)

Collingwood should do this deal in a heartbeat
what has Alan Didak ever done?
not much, especially for a guy picked 3rd overall in the draft

its funny, because from wat ive just heard, melbourne cant afford to pay for a nick stevens type. and carlton have nothing, reason why port are now pretty much only dealing with us. wont be didak, but more like scottland, 1st n 4th rounders. maybe yze the hack could take a pay cut n help pay for stevens.
remember someone called travis johnstone? heard he was pick no.1;)
didak will be a gun, and port know this, being why they asked for him.

i never said he would be a hack, but i dont think he will be a gun,
just a handy goalkicker. if you draft someone at pick 3 I think you would want more than a goalsneak
just my opinion

Carlton have plenty!
they can negotiate with the player, offer him $$$, and threaten to take him pre-season. Port are sh*t scared about this option.
Collingwood hope port will be forced into a 2nd rate settlement, but if they are, don't expect the pies to be the lucky recipient.

to bad the bulldogs have said they would take him in the draft. meaning carlton wont get him. falling collingwood way in a very big way.
The bulldogs would take him, with browny going (maybe), they have salary cap room. Port need to strke a deal with someone, I think they will lower what they expect in return for stevens come friday.

Yes, that is why he will play in the midfield.

You would think Magpies fans would want Didak over Stevens. In saying that, Port will want a good player in return.

Didak anyday over Stevens
Nick Stevens will be at the Bombers
The bombers have nothing Port need or want. Maybe jacobs but then it falls flat.

Nick Stevens will be at Essendon :)

Dudak or Stevens? Stevens may be soft, but he's a cut above Dudak.

That offer is laughable, Port has the player trying to p*ss off not us.
Didak hasn't even had his training wheels taken off yet, he is going nowhere.
We will go as far as offering 1st Round Pick + 2nd Round Pick/or/mid range player I'd say or Stevens can go elsewhere. We won't be selling the farm. Hopefully Stevens gives them the ultimatum to trade him to us or he will go into the pre-season draft..which he already seems to be doing but oh so subtlely.
Good luck to Port if they can get a great deal for him..but history shows you generally don't come out with fantastic deals through players who want to leave your club (as opposed to players switching for a fresh change etc). Im still getting over Nick Davis for a 2nd Round mid pick in a ****weak draft.
Didak in a straight swap for Stevens would be close to fair. Even then, no deal, I'd rather keep Didak. He's cheaper, younger, and classier.

I'm going to be very ****ed if Didak gets traded. Even heart broken. Didak is a gun. Next year he will show us what he really is made of. In the midfeild. Lets just hope it's not Ports.

I hope the Clokes is right. We want Stevens and Collingwood fans want Didak to stay.
If it happens, everyone is happy :)

with everything thats going on i think its safe to say that what port want and what port will get are going to be 2 totally different things. Hopefully they get **** all for him. I'm happy if he goes to a club other than collingwood if it means port get nothing for him!!!

We've clearly said we want a hard running midfielder. Since when has Didak qualified as the aforementioned hard running midfielder? I wouldnt mind Scotland and I certainly wouldnt mind Betheras, good nuggety types. I'd be in heaven if we got Betheras. But I dont want Didak, we already have the Burgoynes, Dew, Pickett et al. I've been saying Didak wont come back for a long time, and I'll stick to it.

Spot on. Clearly, Williams isn't actually thinking about what he needs, rather than what he wants.

Hes not thinking about what he needs, rather whoCollingwood wouldn't like to lose. He is focussed, as usual, too much on the oppposition.

the pre-season lottery doofus, it's not set who goes first.
My word some of you Pies supporters overrate Didak. He's got nice skills and knows how to kick a goal, but not much more than that.
He's just like Stevens was a few years ago, but obviously Stevens has come a fair way since then.
Nick Stevens' manager Max Stevens was just on 3aw radio in Melbourne & said Mick Malthouse is against trading Alan Didak & Simon Prestigiacomo.

Hardly a shock.
I'd be happy to see no trade happen and Stevens to go to the Dogs in the pre season draft. Having said that, I'm pretty confident Port will accept Scotland/Betheras and a couple of draft picks at 4pm on Friday afternoon.

It's been reported today that "the magpies have ruled out Alan Didak in any trade involving Nick Stevens"
so don't worry he'll be there 2pm friday, gaurantee it

He's only about 20 years old and has kicked 30-40 odd goals in 2003 and 2002. Not bad from starvation corner. He will play more midfield in future years.
He's a talent. No question.

I'm not denying that he's talented. But Stevens has the score on the board.

Stevens has it on the score board my oath, he was leading the Brownlow in the first few rounds, and is quite a ball magnet. Didak is a bit part player who will become a great player in the Port Adelaide System. And the 17th Pick in the draft there is every chance u r going to get a dud like M Stevens (now ROO) who was Pick 5. It is Crazy to think. The Draft is not always going to give u what u want. so I think it has an upside for the pies and there is more risk from the Power Side

3AW this morning said Didak told Port he would only go there if they offered him a massive pay rise - which Port couldn't afford.
I don't believe Malthouse wouldn't trade him.
