he was always your best chance of getting Stevens. Scotland, Betheras, McGough et al just won't get the deal done.

Don't worry, Port ain't getting him.

Mark Williams said before the 2000 National Draft that if he had the number one pick, he wouldn't hesitate in getting Didak.

Many watchers also rated Didak the best in the country, but were hesitant to label him #1, as they had learnt from Melbourne that chosing quality smalls over quality talls is daft.

Riewoldt has confirmed this theory, but it doesn't change the fact that Didak's potential is just being reached and the height of that potential...well, who's to say? He could be anything and he sure as hell won't be nothing!!

The fact that they're requesting Didak and our first draft pick, is insulting to us and Alan Didak.

Big wraps on a bloke who as yet hasn't shown anything more than a very good small forward. If he had dominated a full game, or shown some ability in the midfield I'd be getting up in arms, but so far he has been a crumber with great talent, yet inconsistent.

He is still young granted, and all that may change as he matures, but it is a punt by either side.

What exactly does Clokey think is a FAIR and EQUITABLE trade for Stevens given other clubs are also in the market for his services.

i think port is kidding itself with what it expects. I think they are forgeting that if a deal isn't made they get nothing for him!

I think Port are asking for the best they think they can get (or slightly above it), waiting for clubs to outbid each other and then they will take the offor that is closest.

Ever haggled with a car dealer - the price on the car is never what you have to pay - but if you're stupid enough and desperate/in a hurry you take it.

well look at it this way, melbourne have decided they cant fit him under the cap, carlton have nothing to offer as they wont part with pick 2 for him, bulldogs will only take him in the draft so really they can either take what collingwood offer or get nothing

They came to us with the didak deal (not gonna happen i'd rather didak) and have only been dealing with us, if we cant offer anything and everyone else can why is it they are only talking to us?

Didak for Stevens is a fair deal, given that Stevens is the better player and Didak is still quite young.

Maybe a sweetener (3rd/4th rnd pick) from the Magpie camp to eliviate the risk factor Port are taking by picking up an inconsitent, yet immenselly talented crumbing forward.

But Didak and 1st rnd pick for Stevens is just redicolous.

14 Oct 2003, 10:59
It is in our interest to draw the process out. Other deals will be done that will absorb picks and players that Port may have accepted. As time goes by there will not be much left on the table.

Of course Didak is a possible, don't say no, draw the process out. We have little to clinch the deal with so cards have to fall our way, if not so what?

Didak stays, game breaker, Stevens, accumualtor.

With respect, but would Didak have got an opportunity in the Brisbane midfield over the past couple of years?? No different at Pie land!

I've seen him play midfield for Williamstown and he's excellent. Creates space in tight situations, with his agility and football smarts.

He's been under-utilised by Malthouse and still has a pretty good goal average.

To picture the midfielder Didak in two-three years time, think of Paul Licuria with the foot skills of Darren Jarman/Nathan Buckley. Oh, and he's all class overhead too!

Huge difference between being a good VFL midfielder and a good AFL midfielder. He could well follow in the footsteps of Luke Power and go from a forward pocket specialist to a top level midfielder, however there are plenty of other forwards who don't make that transition. Time will tell, but will Collingwood wait or make a grab at a flag while they still have the troops capable?

Three goals in the GF, two goals in the QF final (not sure about the prelim). Could have been four in the GF, but his kick from the centre, bounced and hit the post. The boy plays well under pressure.

Didak + a 2nd or 3rd rounder from port
for Stevens could be an option, but would be a big risk from Collingwood. Didaks grand final performance and his effort throughout the finals series was fantastic and he really excites me and I have a strong belief he is going to be something special as a footballer.

Stevens would add something to Collingwood and is a proven performer, but whilst Didak is a potential match winner Stevens is more of an accumulater.

Tough call for Collingwood Football Club. Port will have to take the best deal available, doesnt appear as though there are many serious bidders for Stevens mainly due to salary cap constraints. Will be watching with interest.

if anyone from collingwood would appeal to port, its didak - he's homegrown.

port will push for players that wont "learn their trade & then up & leave", like stevens did.

So Didak will stay put....

trade with some other club!

No way, Didak stays, Stevens can go the Blues or someone else.

Only way this would happen is if Didak wanted to go home but as he signed a new contract recently, he seems pretty happy at Pie land.

Still this is the sort of value we would have to give up and Port is within their rights. I just hope we say no deal.

Stevens wants to go to the Colly Wobbles so I say let him go. I think that Didak Will be a better player i he had the Power Strip on. He is from the REAL magpies and wants to come home. Didak and a First Rounder is a fair deal. I think we will have to wait until Friday to find out

I think I would be right if I said Collingwood people want Didak over Stevens. Didak will be an awesome player who already has great skills (note: did anyone see the last quarter of the Coll vs Bris QF, who was it that kicked those two goals that won us the match?).
The only reason he didn't kick 50 goals in the year (around 40) was his Wizard Cup performance which left all opposition coaches knowing how good he is.

The only reason he would be traded would be if he did a Stevens and got homesick, in which case a straight swap of Didak for Stevens seems fair, he was a number 3 draft pick and is being groomed to play centre.

Max Stevens, Nick Stevens' manager is on the radio here at the moment and says Port requested Didak and Pick 17, but Collingwood didn't agree and the deal is all but off the table.

If the Power were willing to take pick 17, it suggests that they're looking for a proven player to take Stevens spot straight away, so pick 5 would have to come with someone else you'd think.
