Richmond football operations manager Greg Miller has not given up hope of the Tigers’ landing both Nathan Brown and Dean Solomon despite the club enduring a difficult trading week to date.

The Tigers’ big money bid for the two stars infuriated Essendon on Monday with Bombers’ coach Kevin Sheedy accusing the Tigers of “stuffing up football.”

However Miller refused to be drawn into a slanging match with Sheedy on Tuesday, only describing the Bombers’ coach as “an emotional person.”

Miller said the Tigers were preparing to go right down to the wire in their bid to land both Brown and Solomon.

“I think it will probably go down to the last minute, we will probably have to wait until Friday to see what happens,” he told afl.com.au on Tuesday.

All clubs must finalise any trade deals by 2pm on Friday.

Sheedy also criticised the Tigers for insulting the Bombers by only offering back-up ruckman Ray Hall as a swap for Solomon when the clubs met during trade day at Optus Oval on Monday.

While Miller would not divulge whether the Tigers were now prepared to offer other players in a bid to secure either Brown or Solomon, he said the club was prepared to give up its first draft pick (selection six).

Miller said the Tigers had already spoken to the Bulldogs about giving them pick six in exchange for the exciting Brown, who has already declared he wants to play at Punt Road next season.

But Western Bulldogs’ football operations manager Stephen Newport told afl.com.au on Tuesday that while the Dogs were interested in pick six, the Tigers would have to come up with more than that if they were to secure Brown.

“We’ve said all along we want a quality player as a replacement for Brown,” he said.

“There could be a combination of draft picks involved as well but we want a replacement for Brown.”

The Bulldogs, like Essendon, are not interested in Hall and may yet ask for the Tigers’ talented but inconsistent midfielder Joel Bowden in exchange for Brown.
Bowden, who is one of the AFL’s most durable players having played the past 131 matches in succession dating back to early 1998, is the older brother of promising Bulldogs’ key forward Patrick.

And like Brown, Bowden is just 25 and is considered to be at the peak of his career.

let's just offload some overpaid sookers and not recruit anyone until draft day...

it's fun stirring the bummer fans but do we really want to pay ridiculous prices for overrated wukkers from other clubs ? Nope.

Draft some tigers

If anybody can stuff up what could have been an easy trade, it will be the tools downat Tigerland. How could we have signed up Bowden again? Trade the bugger and do it now.

Please make this happen. Reunite the brothers Bowden.

We signed him and others now so they DON'T fall under the rule where they CANNOT be traded in the first year of their contract.

A rather smart move i would have thought.
