Sorry for chucking up such inane crap, but what about it?

Hank Rollins & the Hard-Ons - let there be rock. The big man does old Bon justice.
Rolf Harris - stairway to heaven (kidding folks)
I like Tricky's cover of "Black Steel in the hour of Chaos". Has anyone heard the Sepultura version of that song on their new CD?

Others escape me...suggestions?

I posted it in the "last CD you purchased" thread, but Living Colour have covered AC/DC's "Back in black" on their new album. Typically of them, its awesome.

Motley Crue's version of "Helter Skelter" was always a fav of mine as well.

Fear Factory's versions of "Dog Day Sunrise" and "Cars" are also very cool.

Sepultura's effort at "Symptom of the Universe" is a killer.

"Best covers" seems to be a recurring topic on this board...

The absolute BEST cover ever:
"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" covered by The Revolting Cocks

Also worth a mention:
"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival
"Money" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" covered by the Flying Lizards
"Private Life" and "La Vie En Rose" covered by Grace Jones
"A Forest" covered by former Adelaide band BNI
"Atomic" from the Trainspotting soundtrack - I forget the band's name

"Some velvet morning" Slowdive
"I wanna be your dog" Uncle Tupelo
"Cast a shadow" Yo La Tengo
"Here she comes now" Galaxie 500

Worst cover is that band that murdered "How soon is now" on Charmed.

Anything by Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - went and saw them last night at the Corner, one of the most enjoyable shows I've been too in ages. End of the Road, Rocket Man, Country Roads and Stairway to Heaven  were particular highlights.

Other favourites:
California dreamin - Hi-Standard
Here she comes now - Nirvana
SOS - Mad Caddies
Down Under - Pennywise
Every breath you take - Millencolin
Take on me - Reel Big Fish
Hey Ska - Area 7

And for good measure, ill throw in a TOOL song.

That's just as rotten as Sixpence None The Richer mauling the La's "There She Goes".

I thought Siouxsie did a decent version of "Dear Prudence", though not a patch on the original.

Idea for another of these interminable Beatles threads: Best cover of a Beatles song :D

Another one:

Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust

Done much in the same vein as Bowie's original version. I still rate Bowie's as better, but Bauhaus' version is not bad at all.
