Well, it happened with Mal Michael, but in general you're right. AFL players, wherever they come from, love Melbourne, and why wouldn't you? The place lives, breathes and sleeps footy, it's part of the very fabric of the place. Brisbane loves AFL now but it's not a tenth of the footy town Melbourne is.
Fact of life, and I don't see it ever changing.
but you guys have sun ,surf and peace and quiet from all that over the top hype !! mind you a little more up there would not go astray. and not to mention great facilities, coach and team whats wrong with these ex pats.
You don't have the night clubs or the money.
Makes you wonder how this group of players that ran around in Lions colours for the last 3 Premierships ever coped with living in a city that's a "non-football" centre.
It's a testimony to their collective determimation, guts and sheer willpower that they proved all the knockers and doubters 1000% wrong ............3 times over.
There's no doubt this is the greatest footy team of all time.

You witnessed Melbourne's 5 Premierships in 6 years in the late 50's and Collingwood's 4-in-a-row in the 20's, Luthors? Not to mention the brilliant Essendon sides of the late 40's/early 50's?

No.
Not old enough.
My recollections of footy only go back to the early 70's.
That's all I have to go on.
Anyway, is it valid to compare a Y2K+ AFL side with VFL teams competing in the 20's 40's or 50's?
