View Full Version : Tim Notting for Adam Selwood - Huge possibility?

It appears that the two WA clubs are interested in Notting. I think the club should try and strike a deal with West Coast to get young Selwood with his brother. He won't cost much and he did play a few good games this year. Now some would say that Notting is worth more than Selwood, but we are getting a young player who has a brother already at the club. The both clubs could throw in a draft pick each to sweeten the deal up a bit.

Thoughts?

Well according to The Age, Tim has changed his mind.

... Brisbane Lion Tim Notting yesterday announced to his suitors, a group that included Hawthorn, Sydney and Fremantle, that he is no longer interested in a trade.

Notting has the final year of his contract with which to refuse a deal.

also, does Adam Selwood not have to stay at the eagles for another year minimum, wasnt there a rule about interstate draftees having to stay for minimum 2 years? Adam has only spent one year with us and id like to see him stay:)

Okay, if Tim Notting is staying, losing someone we don't want to lose is a huge possibility and my source could end up being correct.

It's right at the bottom of the Dean Solomon article.

Tim Notting ia prime example of a player who would walk into any other club & play every game. Shouldnt we put a little pressure on DJ to hang up the boots, as great as he has been he will struggle even more next year, & play Notting off half back pumping 60metre bombs down forward?

I like that idea.

Listen, I don't want to be a party-pooper but NOT ALL Timmy's "bombs" travel 60m.

When he gets onto them they can go 70 meters, but let's not overstate his abilities in relation to his achievements.

Unless I'm confusing him with someone else, I believe that quite a high percentage of his foot disposals have been clangers over the last few years.

Yep, when he connects they are ball-tearers.....but when they don't they often travel 25m into the lap of a defender. Ugly turnovers.

I'm not entirely convinced Notting would "walk into" any other side in the comp.

Maybe he's not either.

Possum has a higher percentage of outright 'shanks' that any player I've seen in recent times. On the run, that is. I reckon his set shots are pretty reliable.

I agree with that.

Set shot from 55 or closer anywhere around the centre of the goals is a good bet.

It's those baulks and "sink the slipper in" kicks that are a worry.

all he needs is an injury free run, more game time,= greater confidence and he'll refine all his skills.

.......and yes, I hear he wants to stay. He's absolutely welcome. It is the 3 to 5 year players like this we need.

Spot on Kimba.

He's a real 'touch' player - I reckon he should sit down with Mr. Bradshaw and learn from his experience this year. He should be the 'kick in' target etc .. like DJ .. and have the discipline to match up players like Tarrant, as well as going forward. The ball is in his court.

I agree, he'd develop well with some more responsibility.

I'm sure that he will be very keen to work at having a greater impact in '04 regardless.
I'm so looking forward to next season as a year where these 'fringe' players, and younger ones step up. It will be the last year definitely for that group of McRae, Hart, Pike, White and probably Lynch.

Couldn't agree more. I hope the ends of their careers aren't inglorious and they pick the right time to bow out.

That said White and Lynch both really struggled at times this year, and many others to a lesser extent, only to come good at the right end of the season.

How do you assess the worth of players like that, especially as they age?

...hard to assess these players worth.....

The key thing that happened in all 3 GF wins was that to a degree we had the side we needed on the big day. There's no doubt McRae, White, Lynch, Hart and Pike were good for us. The club will be prepared to rest and recuperate a good player for 3-4 weeks in the H&Away season as long as they peak for the finals.

We can't keep doing this if:-
(a) they take longer and longer to recover (unlike younger players)
(b) you don't build enough experience into the fringe & emerging players, or
(c) the fringe players get p***ed off and leave for a regular game elsewhere.

The older players WERE worth it in 2003 (& I love them all), but in 2004 we'd hope the pendulum swings significantly to the younger players in both the normal season and by the time finals come...we have confidence to pick the best team...with them in it.

The greatest single sign that the Lions football dept. has this thinking was the confidence shown to allow Richard Hadley to maintain his spot in the final series this year - a big statement.

Tim Notting & co have good reason to want to stay with the Lions.
