Who would you like to see playing in Round 1 next year?

Here is my team, assuming no major trades:

B Hart Bassett Edwards
HB Goodwin McGregor Smart
C Burton Ricciuto Reilly
HF Welsh Carey Johncock
F Burns Stevens Perrie

R Clarke McLeod Stenglein

I Biglands Bode Torney Begley

E Hentschel Massie Ladhams

Those 4 players are all borderline. Massie and Ladhams are probably the better 2 but would depend on form and fitness.

Massie's skills hold up a bit more under pressure than Torney's does and Ladhams has that knack of finding the goals a bit more often than Begley

I agree, I hope Ladhams can really fire this year. Was impressed in 2002 but 2003 he want backwards. We need these second tier players to lift.

Agreed but I also think that some of these players (Bode in particular) for some reason appeared to not have as much confidence in the coaches eye's that they did in 2002 which led to them losing a bit of form

very surprising to see the cows non involvement in trade week. They obviousely do not have the squad to win a flag, they dotn have high draft picks. i think they are a being a bit naive in thinking that their squad is good enough. Carey is not getting any younger, or more agile, neitehr is smart. Their midfield is awesome but their rotations are not good at all...

Go and worry about your own club sacking all it's B&F winners as quick as they can.

I suggest you stick to soccer, as you don't appear to much about AFL.

In that case Port have also been very naive the last 3 years.

I'd love to see that forward line Stiffy. I think Edwards and Johncock could be 2 of the best small forwards in the competition. Are you trading Perrie or dropping him like the many marks he drops?

I'm surprised about how many people are not putting Shirley in their team. He was extremely consistent in 2003 and in my opinion did a much better job as our tagger than Stenglein this year. I reckon he'll get a certified senior side position in 2004.

Anyway, here is my prefered senior list for 2004.

Massie McGregor Edwards

Reilly Riccuito Goodwin

Clarke Shirley McCleod

Edwards to play in the back lines when there's a small in the forward pocket - on the ball when it's a tall and Parker to come in on the tall.

Schuback to come in on bursts in the forward line.

Bode, Goodwin and Johncock to rotate through the mid-field.

Given reasonable form, Reilly, Schuback and Parker to play all year.

Hentschel to also get games as the opportunity arises.

We must develop youth as part of our best 22 next year.

I can't remember how good he is below the knees, but he is athletic and mobile enough. Pace is good.

I remember watching him play a cracker of a game at CHF last year against Port at the SCG (8 marks that day), and another good game in the finals this year at Footy Park when playing in defence.

There's certainly something to work with there.

Don't think that they were in order

Adam Cooney

Kepler Bradley

Kane Tenace

Farren Ray

F: Welsh Carey Johncock
HF: Bode M Stevens Ladhams
C: Burton Stenglein Goodwin
HB: Torney McGregor Smart
B: Hart Bassett Edwards

R: Clarke Ricciuto McLeod

I: Biglands Shirley Burns Massie

I'd love to see Reilly, Schuback, Rutten, S Stevens, Parker et al establish themselves next year. In fact I'll be annoyed if our young talent doesn't start coming through in 2004. But I'm going to wait until they prove it first, til I name them in our best 22.

He'll go pretty high in the draft, because he is a real hard nut reads the play beautifully, and is a genuine ball magnet. A really good type to get.

I was very impressed by him - IMO he'll definitely make it at AFL level.

Sorry to butt in on your board and this topic. Thought you might be interested in this. Cjwalkley has made a super 16's game for next season and I had the pleasure of taking Adelaide. We have to choose 5 midfielders, 5 defenders, 5 forwards and 1 ruck to play every game next season to score us points. 37 on our list maximum. This is the team I'd have as a 22.

B: Michael Wilson, Jason Saddington, Tom Harley
HB: Tyson Edwards, Ken McGregor, Nigel Smart
C: Tyson Stenglein, Mark Ricciuto, Matthew Bode
HF: Byron Pickett, Mark Stevens, Graham Johncock
F: Daniel Motlop, Kent Kingsley, Scott Welsh

FOLL: Jamie Charman, Jason Johnson, Andrew McLeod

INT: Richard Hadley, Wayne Carey, Shaun McManus, Matthew Clarke

EMER: Brenton Sanderson, Leigh Colbert, Ian Perrie

Extras:

James Begley
Nathan Carroll
Jason Gram
Ben Nelson (trying to get rid of him)
Michael Doughty
Mark Mercuri
Jacob Schuback
Nathan Bock
Luke Jericho
Cameron Mooney
Ben Rutton
Ben Marsh

I'm trying to get Sam Power - bargaining with Bulldogs for Perrie and someone else at the moment.

Now take a choice between my best deal that I took off. Don't ask me how I did it okay, but I did it.

In this game, your highest scorers will win you the game, so thats why key position defence lacks a bit.

Trade number 1.

Adelaide trade: Matthew Smith and Andrew Crowell to Essendon
Essendon trade: Mark Mercuri to Adelaide.

Smith and Crowell were going to be delisted by me anyway and probably by Adelaide in real, so I thought I would cash in on someone who I can use as a backup small forward.

Trade number 2

Adelaide trade to Essendon: Daniel Schell (going to be delisted), Martin Mattner (possible delisting), Trent Hentschell (wouldn't get a game with my forward line I have), James Gallagher (Possible delisting plus wouldn't get a game for me), #67, #76 (Draft picks mean **** in this game)

Essendon trade to Adelaide: Jamie Charman, Jason Saddington, Shaun McManus and pick 55. They obviously got Charman and Saddington off Brisbane and Sydney respectively for which they ontraded onto me.

Trade number 3.

Adelaide get:

Cameron Mooney, Kent Kingsley, Tom Harley, Brentan Sanderson.

Geelong get:

Shannon Watt (Dud and lousy scorer), Nathan Bassett (low scorer), Chris Ladhams (decent one there), Mark Porter (low scorer), #12, #29. (draft picks mean jack in this game)

I got Watt and Porter from the Kangaroos in a Motlop deal and on traded them to get better players for them to boost my defence and forward line.

Those are 3 of the biggest trades I ended up with. Trading some of your duds for good young players. Yes there are some Port players in there, however in this game, I need players who will score me points.

So looking at my list, you can tell the INS and OUTS I've made.

I'm just interested to know what you think of the team and also the trades.

P.S From a Brisbane supporter. Good luck next year! You all must all rate that Aiden Parker high. Can I have some info on him please?

I would change the team around but not in the mood.

Oh, I somehow managed this deal. This is a late one.

Ben Nelson for Peter Burgoyne

Port stuffed up joking around in the trade thread offering huge players for crap players to Essendon to see if Essendon would take it. Essendon did. Four of us then conned Essendon to trade those players onto us. So we chose 4 of our biggest hacks and got decent players for them.

Anyway thought you might be interested. Not knowing much about your players, I can't choose a team for you next year in this topic but I'd agree with most of you on what you have all decided. The teams you have decided will definately challenge us injury free. Oh and I'm still waiting for my predicted Adelaide V Brisbane GF. Hasn't happened the last 2 years. I'm hoping you don't meet us in the finals again till the big one next year. Good luck.!

Stiffy, I'm pretty sure it was

David Mundy (Murray Bushrangers) Jul 20, 85 190 cm. 83 kg. Tall, outside key defender who has pace. Is a long, accurate kick and has a cool head under pressure. Spoiling and smothering is exceptional and is capable of going forward. From Seymour FC.
