View Full Version : The obligatory self-introduction rant...

Somehow I'm not quite sure I belong here, as I've been an anti-football person since I was a kid... purely because it's inescapable if you live in Victoria and I had no interest in it whatsoever. You can imagine my joy when I scored an American guy who knew almost nothing about the game. SAVED! I won't be stuck with an ocker sitting on the couch with his tinnies watching match after match of AFL.

How wrong I was. Thankfully, "Stealth" as he's known here, doesn't fit the picture of the ocker on the couch. However, after he came to Australia the first time, it wasn't long before he took AFL to heart and memorised the entire list of premiership stats since the sport's inception.

I began seeing our sport from a very different and fresh perspective. I started having an interest in AFL *gasp!* I even phoned him while he was home in the US on Grand Final Day 2000 to "watch" the live broadcast with him as they aired simultaneously.

Thanks to him, I attended the first AFL match of my life, and with the onset of season 2001 have already been to the footy twice in two weeks *double gasp!*. Best of all, I'm learning things about the game as he does.

I actually LIKE footy now. I never thought I'd be saying that. It took an American to turn me around.

Irony will always get you in the end ;)

Welcome Kwyjibo, glad to see that you have been converted to a fan of the great game. It's also good to see another Simpsons fan bringing a cultured, cerebral view to these boards. I hope you get to make many friends at these boards and also bag the hell out of a few of us too. ;)

Thanks Santos - I tell you what, three Simpsons fans on the one fantasy team? How could I say no to signing up?

Dunno about "cultured", but I'll try to keep that illusion going ;)

Welcome Kwijybo, I just hope SB's allegiances haven't also rubbed off on you.

Actually Darky, my family's allegiance rubbed off on Stealth, not the other way around. Three generations of Dons supporters. So he didn't have much of a choice :)

Are you going to go to Essendon vs Carlton this week with Stealth? This is a must go to match.

This is Carlton. We wouldn't miss this one for the world :)

Perfect chance for me to show off my new scarf.

Where will you be sitting?

Should be a great atmosphere. 75,000 preople or more expected at the match !

Welcome Kwyjibo. Good to see you got the obligatory self-introduction rant out of the way.

And dont worry its not to late for you to turn back!! We welcome you to be a fan of the mighty West Coast Eagles because lets be honest no one really wants to go for Essendon. :D

Well, we both felt sorry for them, seeing how they were in such financial strife and how they'd gone seven whole years without a flag.

Nah, seriously...I wouldn't support them to jump on a bandwagon. It was actually a couple of years ago that I started following the Bombers...back when they were just "very good". They actually lost the first match I watched on TV, which was against St. Kilda.

Our allegiances are actually explained in a thread in the Essendon board addressed to me.

And no, I don't know where I'm sitting yet. Maybe in the Olympic Stand again, those were alright.

Actually, can I get them ahead of time so I don't have to wait in a queue? Seeing that this one will be the most in demand so far I should probably get on it.

Stealth,

Just go to your local ticketmaster outlet and pre-book some general admssion seats. It will probably cost an extra 5 dollars for the booking fee, but it is probably worth it.

Ticketmaster outlets ae usually in newsagents and shopping centres. There will be one near you. Go the ticketmaster website www.ticketmaster.com.au (http://www.ticketmaster.com.au) and it will tell you where your nearet ticketmaster is.

Or you could ring ticketmaster and book them over the phone and pick them up at the ground.

It's pretty easy. Just go to ticketmaster, ask for a general admission ticket, and they will show you a map of the ground and you can choose your seat! Easy !

Jod
The only thing you will be doing with your jacket, is putting it over your head, so no one can identify you after you leave the ground at 3 quarter time because you are being flogged. :D

Jod & Manits,
I think we may have to meet up for before the round 21 game and have a couple of lagers at the subi hotel or something, then we can insult eachothers teams in person ;)

Kwyjybo- well done on the recruiting- now if you could only get stealth to dump the much hated Packers and start following the NY Jets......................
:D

I always go to the Subi before the match so will see you there. Come on Jod, don't be scared, we don't bite & it is before the game so if you want to wave your jacket then fine, because you certainly won't be doing it after the game. :D :D :D :D

Bought our tickets today, online. Probably not the best way to do it, took three attempts. Reserved seats in the G.S.S. Hope they're good. We paid about $10 more per seat than the Olympic stand seats for the North game.

er 1969 i think, and it might be 2069 before they make another, but theyre my team and there isnt much I can do about it.

I remember watching Letterman one night and Dave made a joke about Vinny saying "He's had a tough time, he cant even pass the Thanksgiving day gravy over the table without it being picked off by a family member"

maybe we could thaw out Broadway Joe ???
;)
