View Full Version : NO to all these 2nd-rate KPPs

Seriously look at Adelaide's history...we really don't nearly need to be taking punts on 22-23 yo KPPs like Stevens or Morrell or any of that crap.
Look at the embarrassing failures in Schell and Fitgerald. We don't to be trading away reasonable draft picks for players who haven't cemented themselves in several years.
I mean, seriously, we're better off picking up a likely type in the draft and working with him than thinking we can turn some 2nd-rate KPP who has cemented himself at some other club into a gun. NO.
Geez, I wasn't sure about trading Perrie, but you've convinced me now.

spindoctor, take a chill pill dude. The fact of the matter is that a player you get with pick 45 will not be the quality of the guys you mentioned.
Get real dude, we cannot get guns for peanuts. This years trading period is about adding ROLE players that can improve the depth of your list. Pick 45 in this years draft will not give you that unless the fella upstairs smiles at you.
I am not a big fan of Stevens ot Loats but I would trade pick 45 for either of those in a second. Its not all about getting champions. Its about improving your list and with trade bait we have then its about addressing your weakneses.
You mentioned Schell and Fitzgerald as failures but why don't you mention Stevens, Bassett, Biglands and Clarke as success stories?????;)

Stiffy is right. Adelaide already has a number of champion players: Roo, Carey, McLeod, Smart etc.
Where we fell down in 2003 was the next tier of players who didn't perform i.e. Ladhams, Bode, Doughty, Gallagher, Mattner, etc.

Hardly with Scarlett and Graham there!! Graham is useless and is 30+. He won't be around for much longer. Behind Scarlett, Harley is their best key defender.

Oh crap. I explicitly say not to draft another of these types, and there they go and get Stevens.
Adam Morgan, David Haynes, Trent Croad, all would have been better options.

I would have been one p|ssed off supporter if we matched Hawthorns offer of Pick 10 for Croad.

Stiffy, how could you be so short-sighted as to let one bad season blind your view of Croad? FFS...when he left Hawthorn he was hot property, he had a good first-up season with Freo and only this season was poor. Stiffy, I wouldn't think you'd be so shallow.
Adam Morgan was reasonable for Port and in the SANFL as a tall defender, which is what we need.
David Haynes was quite successful as a medium forward for West Coast.

Adam Morgan is not up to AFL standard IMHO. Port got a steal with that deal because Doggies were desperate for talls. One of those players thats a star at SANFL level but not up to it at AFL. A bit like Bradshaw;)
David Haynes is poor man's Ian Perrie and as you said he is a medium of which we have a surplus.
If you look at this years draft pool it would have been extremely unlikely for us to get a tall of similar quality of Scott Stevens. He is not a star but he could be a very handy player.

Um...you said you would have been ****ed off if we matched pick 10 for Croad...implying you didn't think Croad was anywhere near good enough.
Which we know he is. The Crows coaching staff taught Johncock how to hold his marks, and that is all that is stopping Croad fom absolutely dominating - he drops too many marks.

No thats no implying that he is not good enough, thats implying that he is not worth a top 10 pick IMHO. I think he would have been worth a late first rounder to early 2nd rounder.
In fact if you joined this board earlier you would have found out that macca23 and myself were suggesting we actually go after Croad;)
