View Full Version : Philip Read

Just read on PuntRoadEnd that there was talk on Perth radio today that Richmond were showing interest in Philip Read from W.C. Has anyone heard this? I'd much prefer to be concentrating our efforts on getting Shane Morrison from Brisbane. I'd rather a young KPP starved of opportunities than a 2 x knee reconstruction victim, back pocket player.

At least two newspapers have reported we are interested in Read - one yesterday, one today (just can't remember which ones).

if hall does leave...well Richmond are left with 6 talls.

Chubba
Ottens
Gaspar
Richo
Stafford
Schulz

6 very handy types, I agree but...no-one really expects them to do it all do they?

if we don't do anything else tomorrow, we've got 11 spots to fill.

How deep's that draft?

He's not a bad player when fully fit and might be worth a punt if he's over his injury problems.
I doubt we'd be offering him big money, so it just depends on what we have to give to the Weagles to get him.

Oh_my_hat

After seeing Morrison run round for the lions reserves for the last 2 years, he is exactly what Richmond need.

Morrison is good and if Johnathon Brown was not playing for Brisbane he would of played 50 AFL Games already. I would go as far to say he is in the top 10 CHF in the game at current time, unfortunately for Morrison Brown is better.

In addition Brisbane could do with another early draft choice.

Best of Luck.

Cheers

Offer a player swap or another higher pic for Read.
A 3rd round pic for Morrison as he hasn't played much footy to warrant using pick #20 at the AFL level.

But would either player like to come to RFC.

Which player? As I understand it your picks 6 and 21 are being used for Brown.

You don't have a third round pick to offer. Your third round pick is being used for Father/Son (Roach)

You have no picks until the 4th Round and I can't see anyone jumping up and down for that.

Philip Read:
- 24 yo recruited from East Fremantle
- debut 1998
- 74 games
- Solid build, tough,
- 180cm, 80kg
- 2 knee recos DNP 2001,2002
- 12 games this season (including last 8) avg @ 12 possies

Sure he'd get along well with Dragga. I'm not sure why we'd be looking at him other than the fact WCE are shopping him around....

At present in the first 4 rounds we have:
- Pick 20 (for Holland)
- Pick 21 (so long as Ray Hall agrees to go to Geelong)
- Pick 53

Not that I can see Richmond giving up 20 or 21 for a guy on 2 dodgy knees.

for morrison hmmmmm thats a tricky one.a 3rd party will have to get involved.
perhaps we were a bit hasty in delisting hilton considering the trend of former players going back to their original clubs[black and croad] hilton for morrison:D :D

cheers!

Their contracts actually run out after trade week. So, in actual fact they have not been delisted yet. All delisted means is that your contract will not be renewed, this means that when their contracts run out, they will not be given another one, but, until they run out they are Richmond players, hence the Tigers still have the ability to trade them, if someone wants them. However, it is rare that a club announces they are going to delist a bloke and then gets lucky enough to trade him off to someone else.

I assure you Hilton has not been delisted and given the lack of depth on our list I doubt he will be.

Can someone explain to me why e would want Read?

Hey CB, i've heard he's a Fleming type.
I think Flem's great...but we've got Nicholls too, and Hilton another one couldn't hurt but i don't think it's an urgent one.

Hey Miller ! Big men now.

betcha we redraft Vardy late, for sure.
Probably draft Capuano late if he's there.

I guess Miller is after tough half backs, and considering Solomon isn't coming over, Read is probably young enough to crack However I'd probably rather target Guerra

If Read does go to the Tigers, what will the Eagels get?
