View Full Version : Rawlings / Stevens = Great result for Melb & Rich

With Rawlings and Stevens being pushed into the pre season draft this has become a blessing in disguise for both the tigers and dees.
Richmond and Melbourne now get first opportunity to best uncontracted players for nothing. At pick three and four respectively... not much talent usually hangs around that long... but now the bullies and blues are committed to these two... we become highly profitable.
Thanks must go to the following:
- Hawthorn and Bulldogs for having the faith to back each other.
- North for p*ss farting around all week expecting they can rip off Hawthorn. You guys had a week to bring in a third party, but ****ed around, so you got ****ed over!
- Collingwood... you ****heads, no more required.
- Port adelaide... Williams, you have balls of steel - i still hate you though.

This is only good if there are any uncontracted players who are going to go into the PSD besides stevens & rawlings.
Who else is there?

There'll be at least 10 players who will come out of contract between now and then.
Brisbane are under the pump still (ie. Pike, Notting). Both have indicated that they want to stay, but nothing has been signed.
Remember there was Powell, Bolton and others last year.

how did Richmond get pick 4 all of a sudden ??
Last I checked that was the West Bulldogs and Melbourne had pick 5 and Richmond had pick 6

You're talking about the National Draft (30/11) whereas a club will usually take uncontracted players in the PSD (16/12) - that's what we're all talking about.

It doesnt go like that in the PSD... only in the National draft. In the PSD its as simple as...
1) WB
2) Carlton
3) Melbourne
4) Richmond
5) Geelong
etc etc
I Believe we are talking about the Pres Season Draft, not the national draft. In which case it goes in reverese order of ladder and I dont beleive that you can trade these picks

Or it could just be that the price Hawthorn demanded was too high. Missing out on Rawlings is not necessarily a loss IMO.

Surely the fact that we didn't agree to Hawthorn's exhorbitent demands means we didn't get "f*cked over".

He hasn't signed. He won't sign either. Unless he wants to stay beyond 2005 that is.

Why did they ditch the Lottery for teams under 8 wins in the PSD ? Was it AFLPA pressure ?
I thought this innovation was initially introduced to avoid the "Rawlings-type incidents" ...
i think the AFLPA got rid of it during the last collective bargaining agreement.

Players in the 2nd year of a 3 year contract generally don't
