Now that the trading is done. Presuming Lynch plays on, this is the team for next year.

B: Chris Johnson, Mal Michael, Chris Scott
HB: Martin Pike, Justin Leppitsch, Richard Hadley
C: Jason Akermanis, Michael Voss, Nigel Lappin
HF: Luke Power, Jonathan Brown, Aaron Shattock
F: Craig McRae, Alistair Lynch, Ashley McGrath

FOLL: Jamie Charman, Simon Black, Brad Scott

INT: Shaun Hart, Darryl White, Daniel Bradshaw, Clark Keating

EMERG: Robert Copeland, Blake Caracella, Beau McDonald.

Richard Hadley the obvious replacement for Ashcroft.

See the emergencies? The team is that strong that I couldn't fit any of those in. Hell, Brennan can't even make the emergency list.

If McRae retires, Caracella to go in that position.
If Lynch retires, Bradshaw to go into that position and Copeland on the bench.
Then the emergency list will consist of Brennan, Selwood and McDonald.

Still a question mark over those 2 players.

To me I'd have Caracella in before Shattock mainly due to Caracella having an inconsistent season and Shattock being a better player who can also run in the midfield.

You mean Shattock in before Caracella?

What about Notting? But I agree with you - that's a very strong team. I know this is a bit sadistic, but I'm almost hoping there'll be a few injuries next year, because we really need to develop the young kids, otherwise we'll have more Jason Grams in next years' trade week.

Add to that, we're likely to have 4-5 retirements at the end of next year in White, McRae, Hart, Lynch and Pike, which will leave a gaping hole. Good luck to any of the fellas we pick up in the draft playing Seniors next year.

Well, it's still a great team (greatest ever, I'm not quite sure), and I reckon we're certs for a top 4 finish next year.

You place great value on Caracella IMHO.
I'd have Notting ahead of Caracella anytime. In fact I would have had Jason Gram ahead of Caracella. And these two would not have cost as much.
Hope the young man that is picked up with the no 23 works out otherwise we will regret letting Gram go.

I'd actually like to see Fly and Whitey retire this year. They are two of my favourite players but I'd rather that than a huge exodus at the end of next year.

I'd also like to see some of the younger players playing earlier in the season tp get some experience up and to also rest some of our senior guys for later in the season.

I agree with ya. This year we lacked bringing in younger players when players were out of form/injured. It resulted in hardly any run from the backline or any run at all. Next year, I would like a team change every week. We need to keep refreshing the players bodies for later in the year and need to start playing some younger players.

If Shattock is screwed around with next year, he'll leave. To tell you the truth about my team, I forgot totally about Notting.

I don't like the idea next year of having 4 or so retirements next year. Come 2005, most the young players would have played less than 10 games and that's not enough to replace guys like Lynch, Pike, Hart, McRae, White.

As Kimp said, McRae and White should do the team thing and retire. Whilst they can go on, we need to start developing these young players. I don't want to get to 2005 and have 10 players who have played less than 10 AFL games. That's disaster. We gotto prevent that from happening. Give White an assistant coach role.

You've got to be joking?

Hart was one of our most consistent performers this year. There is no way he should be jibbed of a position in the side. His year this year has been better than his last 5. Hart should be in the 22. No question about it. Hart in the 22 Morrison out. Morrison won't be on the list next year. Didn't perform when given game time and definately isn't worth another year on the list. He only stayed on because he is a backup for Lynch and Brown. We now see Weller. Morrison has done his time at the club. It's local league or draft for him.

Caracella can't be de-listed. He has another year of his contract to go as far as I am aware. The only option was to trade him. Obviously other clubs were not interested.
It has been reported that Bradshaw has just agreed to new terms so he is staying.
Who will be de-listed is an interesting conundrum for the club. Room has to be made in the salary cap, especially now that Notting decided to finish his contract.

According to reports the only players yet to agree to terms are Pike, Copeland and Lynch. It has to be one or more from this trio to join Morrison.

Time will tell

Not sure where you've gotten this new found confidence in Weller. Probably not a lot between him & Morro....but from reports I've received Morro is the better of the two.

Either way....IMO Leppa has been off the boil for the past 2 years. I am doubting whether has is able to hold down CHB against the likes of a Rocca. Maybe one of these kids will get a chance.

I have always had confidence in Weller. The fact is that Weller is a much better player than Morrison. If Brown is out injured, I'd prefer Weller holding down CHF other than Morrison. Weller played CHF against Richmond and was bloody awesome. Weller does the team things too. Weller is higher up than Morro IMO. Morro can only perform at reserves level.

He is a definate delisting with probably Copeland who hasn't signed on with the club.

MacDonald, Weller and Pratt to be promoted from the rookie list.

Might as well put my two bobs worth in...
(Assuming Lynch, Copeland and Pike stay on)

B: Chris Johnson, Mal Michael, Chris Scott
HB: Martin Pike, Justin Leppitsch, Luke Power
C: Jason Akermanis, Michael Voss, Nigel Lappin
HF: Tim Notting, Jonathan Brown, Aaron Shattock
F: Craig McRae, Alastair Lynch, Ashley McGrath

R: Jamie Charman, Simon Black, Brad Scott

INT: Shaun Hart, Darryl White, Daniel Bradshaw, Clark Keating

EMERG: Robert Copeland, Blake Caracella, Beau McDonald

Next to come (in order of promotion):
Richard Hadley
Jared Brennan
Dylan McLaren (depends on injuries)
Troy Selwood
Daniel Merrett
(NB - Bradshaw for Brown - suspended - in Rnd 1, Copeland on bench)

Sorry SB - couldn't fit Hadley in...you have to be honest - the only reason he got a game this year was due to injuries. But I'm sure hoping we'll see a fair bit of Hadley and Brennan in 2004.

Now that Aschroft and Gram are gone, we have a senior list of 33. Under the new CBA, we need 37 minimum. The picks we have in the national draft are:
Rnd 1. Pick 18
Rnd 2. Pick 23
Rnd 2. Pick 33
Rnd 3. Pick 49
Rnd 4. Pick 65
Rnd 5. Pick 81

Considering we only took 4 picks last year (at 3,19,30 and 44), and all draft picks go onto the senior list, we can either take these 4 picks, or perhaps take 2-3 picks and promote from our rookie list. This isn't even considering the pre-season draft, to which we may lose players such as Morrison.

So here's a question - who will we pick in the national draft, promote from the rookies and/or kick out of the club?

Hadley will get a game over Notting and White IMO. Notting had a **** year and was always out of favour with the selection committee whereas Hadley was solid when he played and looks to be in favour of the selection comittee. Mark my words. If Hadley is fit come round 1, he'll play. We always like to use where possible the same premiership side the year before in round 1.

On to team management.

List of 33

Morrison and Wright delisted.

Takes our list to 31.

Promote Weller and either Pratt or MacDonald. Preferably MacDonald as Pratt was injured most of the year and we should keep him on the rookie list for one more year and work out at the end of next year if he's worth keeping or not.

Brings our list back to 33.

Use draft selections 18, 23, 33, 49.

Raines demoted from the Rookie list.

Get 3 rookies from the rookie draft.
