I find that that there is a striking similiarity between a Port Adelide situation with the one faced by Brisbane a few years ago when O'Bree wanted to come back home. At the time Brisbane received a few offers from number of Victorian clubs however noe of the offers were really equivalent to the value that O'Bree had then. Instead of selling out for an inadequate compenastion they released O'Bree into the national draft for him to take his chances.
Since that day no player had left Brisbane without Brisbane receiving a fair compensation as the message was sent to the whole player group saying "you demand a trade at your own peril" and to rest of the clubs "if you want to guarantee yourself a player from our list do not low ball us".
Therefore, and without supporting either club, I want to say congratulations to both Port Adelide and Brisbane may the stance you have taken pay even more dividends in the future.

It's a ballsy move. Quite refreshing really. Should make the players realise they are not bigger than the club.

How about Hawthorn? They did the same sort of thing with Rawlings except they worked out a way to get something for him. Stevens is in the news because its Collingwood but Hawthorn have pulled off one of the best trades of all time

Fair point you make too. Over last few years there seems to have been a change where people stand up for the rights of players but people also forget that the clus have rights too. The way that the current player agreement has been structured they need to approve the trade before being dealt. This means that they can effectively hold a club to ransom. Which I also think is not fair.
Some sort of balance had to be found whereby players and club needs and wishes are fullfilled.
